SGU CAMPUS TOUR | St. George's University | Vet & Med School

  • Many people tell me that my videos help put them at ease about coming to SGU because they never get to come visit Grenada or campus, so I decided to make a campus tour video! St. George's University is located in Grenada, a small Caribbean island in the lower Caribbean. Since I'm in the vet school, many of my videos have vet emphasis, but this campus tour is inclusive to all.
    SGU has a veterinary and medical school that is US based and AVMA / AMA accredited. They also have a School of Arts and Sciences that has traditional "undergrad, graduate, and doctoral" degrees. There is an option to do pre-vet and pre-med here as an American student, but the SAS cohort is largely diverse from students from all over!
    Please reach out to me on social media if you have any doubts or uestions. Hope you enjoyed!

    Hello! I just wanted to say that I am a new faculty member (this semester, of course teaching remotely for now) and I really appreciate your vlogs! It's given me a better feel and understanding of the campus, especially as I have not yet had the opportunity to visit in person. As someone from the United States, I greatly appreciate it!

    Great video Britt. It is nice to see a tour of the campus from down the hill to up the hill. I think you definitely hit all the spots needed for a prospective student or even new Faculty members to know if they are interested in coming to SGU. Thank you for actually walking around the entire campus to do this. I know it was not easy because SGU has a lot of hills to climb. I appreciate it.

    Wow!!! First of all, this campus is HUGE... Did not expect that... Had no idea we have such a beautiful picturesque university... From personal experience I know university can be quite stressful to say the least, due to the huge volume of readings on a daily basis, research papers, not to mention studying; but I imagine the beautiful view and sea breeze is somewhat therapeutic and helps... Always wished for shuttle buses in my university when my tired ass have to tread from classes to classes, only to find out this service is available on my native land 😏... Like you I am not a fan of quiet study space to an extent... I like noise around me, even at home... As I’m sure you can tell, I enjoyed this vlog... I found it to be quite informative and eye opening... Great job 👍🏽👍🏽... Happy I came across your channel...

    Thank you for the Tour. I left SGU in 2010. Some of these dorm buildings were just beginning to be built when I left. But on a whole a lot has been improved. Even the Student Center, i didn't even know that is what is was called. There was just one place there where you could buy snacks and stuff but nothing much. Now there seems to be so many options to buy things there and so much more room. Where the tennis court is now, it was a basketball court. and that was the only court on campus now there are so many more courts. I'm happy for this because I went to SGU in late 2019 and a didn't get to check out any of the improvements. The Belford Beach area is so beautiful. Its just amazing to see how the university looks now

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah when I first started, the court in front of the student center was the only one, but since they built Belford and the new court, it allowed for 2 tennis courts. I get a lot of people telling me how much it has expanded.

    I attended SGUSOM in the 1990's. I'm hoping folks aren't having too much trouble getting US residencies as FMGs nowadays. It was tough struggle in my time but somehow I was able to get to Brown University for my residency with a chief resident year, and today I am in practice in California teaching medical residents at Stanford University. I know you're vet but this brings back so many memories even though just about everything changed.

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's amazing! I don't think it's AS hard, but I definitely think there's still bias against IMGs. My girlfriend is in the SOM at SGU and is getting ready to take her STEP 1 in a week and starts clinicals in May. She's told me plenty of times how important it is for even applying to residencies at the end of med school.

      ST. GEORGE’S UNIVERSITY
      YOUR SCHOOL (EX. SCHOOL OF MEDICINE)
      ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, WEST INDIES
      Then is this the best way for me to receive packages? And I'd just be able to pick them up at the post office? Because my address for my apartment really isn't much of an address and it's confusing how to receive packages

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erican.5653 Hi! So yes you have to use the SGU mailbox. Mail isn't delivered to apartments or houses. You have to go in person to the mailboxes. Even if you were a citizen, you'd have a "p.o" box. So as a student, yours is the SGU one. Once the package arrives in Grenada at the St. George's (the town not the school) Main post office, you'll receive a slip in your SGU mailbox to retrieve it. You also have to pay taxes on packages (another reason why it can't just be delivered)

    Hey, im a senior in undergrad that is about to start applying and just had a few questions. Would you say that it is harder for caribbean students to get accepted into specialties after graduation, or would you say that it is still on par with state schools? I am looking at going into a mixed practice with a focus on cattle in the future and didn't know if the caribbean schools were good for that specific part of the field, as I have heard the caribbean schools mainly focus on small animals. Also, is the burnout as tough as everyone says with the accelerated schedule? There is a lot of conflicting info on the internet and just wanted some advice from someone who has actually been through the program. Great tour and appreciate your content

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SGU is a normal 4 year school. Ross is another caribbean vet school in St. Kitts and it is accelerated. Regardless of where you go in-state or in the caribbean, we all take the same license exam and have the same standards for curriculum. You still learn about large animals and have large animal labs on island. Then, during your 4th year, you go do clinical rotations back in the US anyways and can track large animals and do interest-specific externships (like cattle work for you) at this time.

      Side note your videos have helped me sooooo much recently! Even just trying to talk to some of the admissions department at SGU. They kept telling me that campus is 100% closed right now as in no one is allowed to step one foot on campus but I was even there a couple of months ago on a tour and people were using the gym and stuff too and I was like no definitely some parts of campus are at least open and mentioned that there are multiple channels including yours showing what campus is like at the moment. I guess they thought the whole island was a ghost town and thought students weren't allowed in Grenada at all but letting them know after seeing your videos helped us sort out everything with them so we can move at the end of March. I cannot thank you enough for how helpful you've been!

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you take your test on day 5. And on day 7, if negative, the MOH will contact the place you're staying and let you know you can leave. Some people get the notification as earlier as 8am and others have heard as late as 9-10pm lol But they contact the place you're quaranting, not you directly. You'd only have to quarantine the full 14 days if your test were positive. Other than that, the quarantine is just 7 days.

Often they're unaware of hat's going on in Grenada and many have never visited or are unfamiliar with how things run here. You can. You just tell them where you wanna go at the security booth and they give you a visitor's pass. It doesn't limit where you can go so you're free to roam I guess

    Did you bring Toulouse back with you?
    If so, were there any issues with travelling with him?
    I'd like to bring my dog with me but I'm wondering if there will be increased difficulties now

      Yes I am aware. Also, I did mention Eric Gary Hall as the newest dorm, but I didn't really dive deep into anyone's name.

      I'm a US student and don't qualify for most of the scholarships in the vet page. I would recommend checking the financial aid page for the school you're applying into for specific scholarships (veterinary, medicine, school of arts & science, etc)
