- I was requested to make a video about the things that surprised me most/I found weird about living in Grenada while going to vet school here. I hope no one takes offense as it's truly light-heated and just my honest opinion moving to a place that's nothing like where I grew up.

About me: My name is Brittney Kilgore. I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and am an alumni of the University of Georgia (UGA). I am currently a veterinary student at St. George’s Univeristy. SGU is located on the Caribbean island of Grenada. Although I’m a vet student now, I’ve been a vet tech for years. As I achieve my DVM, I’ve started this channel to document and share my life. I hope to oneday practice small animal / feline medicine. Until then, hope you enjoy my journey!

I love it here, too! I live on campus, so I have more conveniences (like clothes driers), but I totally feel what you're saying. When I first arrived, I only brought 2 pieces of luggage (one checked, one carry-on). I was so proud about how resourceful I had/have to be. You learn to live with less and it's so freeing.
What beach was that? I've only been to Grand Anse & BBC.
I have to add that I love the food here. Fruits and vegetables are so fresh. They taste different; probably because they are not over processed/genetically modified. And there's different varieties. It's made me love cooking, again.
Yes! I love cooking in general so its nice how fresh everything is. This beach was on Hog Island. I also recommend Magazine beach (behind the airprt)!

I really like your video. But I couldn't stop laughing...it's not that they have less variety...it's that America has a lot...arguably too much. I am a Canadian with Grenadian parents. I have family in the US as well...we don't realize sometimes how blessed/spoiled we are in the West. Give thanks! Much love and enjoy your time! ❤❤❤

You have changed and adjusted to life in Grenada. In the beginning your vlogs were filled with negative things about Grenada. I like the new you. When I moved from Grenada to the USA, I had to make a great deal of adjustments too. I had a lot of negative things to say about the USA as well. I also took many things in Grenada for granted (family, friends, local food, the natural environment, friendliness, generosity of spirit, etc) which were no longer readily available in the USA. All the best.👍
I never had negative views of Grenada. I would just share my experiences. Many other people had negative views and it always shocked me because I loved it from the beginning...

When you wash your clothes and you hang it up in the sun and the wind it smells amazing when it dry. Natural dryer it's tropics.

Well I’m so proud of you young explorer....so happy to see you acclimated to our family’s land-well in a way...the elders spawned our parents in Carriacou.....then we migrated from there to Aruba then to the states. We reunioned there some years ago and it was the first I’d been back since 16 yrs old. I’ve got an 11 year old whose resigned to become a Veterinarian. So I’m go’n remind her about studying where you are

Thanks for this video Britt and sharing your feedback about your experiences in Grenada. I can understand why some things might be strange to you and I believe other students might feel the same way. This video has helped me to better understand how students might view certain things taking place in Grenada and therefore, I might be able to relate to them better. Thanks again.
Wow!!!. I am happy that you are enjoying the island life!!! Every time I look at videos like yours, I just appreciate my island life more. I reccomend that you visit one of the secondary schools. It is so interesting...public preferably. Ohhhh.....visit one of the "sports" ...they usually take place at around late January into February and March.

Trust me you’re going to miss it when you get back here like I miss it. Even the little things that bug you like the mosquitos and sand flies will seem petty. When you get there it’s kind of like a culture shock but once you get into the swing of things You start adapting and when you come back to the states you start realizing you‘ve picked up so many Local habits. I know what you’re talking about with smoothies and the seasoning. I came back with so many nutmeg And Other spices and I put them in all my drinks now 😂 The first time I made it for my family and they lost it. Now they’re constantly begging me to make smoothies and the cocoa tea 😂
I miss the things even on breaks and summer so I can't even imagine when I leave for good. I was distraught to have to leave for this pandemic ordeal. I even find myself saying things like "Car park" and getting in the car on the right side. I try making making mango smoothies here and they're NOT the same. Sometimes i think about moving to the caribbean, but I haven't gotten to that part but I will definitely miss it crazy.

I don't eat meat but in Grenada people take seasoning their meat very serious. So the chicken is well seasoned and properly clean.

The reason for the slang is because the Island was first colonized by the French. And then was taken over by the English so it's a mixed bag. Most of the names on the island is still French names. And the people still use a lot of French words with English.
Don't you guys speak a kind of english patois in Grenada ? Back then the language of the whole island was french creole. I believe there are a few elders who still speak it.

Btw i agree with EVERYTHING you said... its sooo much different from the states and so much to get used too bcuz we are so spoiled with so many things. Ive never had to go to the laundry mat or hang my clothes so i had to get taught lol in california no one really uses the bus but there everyone uses it and its the norm... also in the states (idk about georgia) but if we see someone on standing on the road we dont pick them up but there my bf just walks out to the road and he will always see someone he knows and they pick him up. We also have the luxury to have malls, walmart and target like stores but there you have to find stores that have certain things. Its just so different and humbling like you said and i love it and miss it there :/

shariah hickman Yes! That’s why I didn’t want this video to come off like I was insulting or complaining but there are so many differences. The first time someone offered me a ride randomly I was like WAHHH? And same with stores and malls. I missed a few things but maybe I’ll do a part 2 one of these days lol

How dare you ! Such negativity! (Gotcha ! just joking).I actually enjoyed the video.I saw the video with Nick White and honestly I believed he made up those slangs and it's not just Grenadian those slangs are used throughout the Caribbean. You are so down to earth you do have Americans who look like us visit and behave quite ridiculous. Don't change who you are. (When I go on vacation my first shower has to be with cold water it takes me all day to work up the nerve to do it, because at one time there was no hot or cold it was just cold.

It's called Grill Master. It's in Grand Anse on Wall Street.
Also, most of the housing I know is for students, but if you google Grenadian realtors, they should be able to give you some short-term options

Loves your vids. KFC by spice mall? Ohh in my day 2006-2010 the gardener kept chickens in the garden outside the KFC. I always wandered how fresh the chicken was. Ohh the hill you climb. I know it. Ohh the memories. Mmmm umbrellas. Uhh I learned how to turn off lights and not use lights you don’t need. My first electric bill was a wake up. Electricity is generated by generators and that has to be brought in by ship

Don’t be afraid to acknowledge and talk about race and the importance of feeling apart of a ‘majority’. Even watching this, I am surprised by how many white people are now in Grenada. There’s nothing wrong at all with appreciating your people (they do).

Yeah, there's lots of Indians in the Caribbean because the Indians was sent down as indentured servants to cook for the slaves So the food have a lot of African and Indian influence.

New subscriber...I'm watching this vid in 2021 and seeing this was uploaded Feb 2020....the comment about there only being outdoor restaurants. I wonder if this helped stabilize the country's economy during the initial pandemonium elsewhere in the states...
I didn't mean it in a bad way - just an observable difference ya know lol but yes, alot of places in the states had to expand their outdoor dining initially

I wasn’t critiquing, I was only observing that when the video was posted, no one had any idea this spamdemic was coming 😅 and now we only wish we could dine al fresco in the states. With the fact that mostly al fresco only dining is the norm in Grenada, I observed that hopefully kept the economy together unlike here in the states.

I. Strongly recommend an outing to Margarita island. Via Conviasa it’s dirt cheap. Just once in margarita mask your a US Venezuela hates Americans. Openly. I carried my Canadian passport and made it visible. Service went up from a 1 to 100 the minute they saw it

Grenada is not AMERICA
Please be mindful that Grenada is a tiny island, and not a huge country on the mainland. So there should be no comparison. It's not fair. Do not let materialism confuse you. Learn to be more abstract and adaptable. Deprogram yourself. Actually, there's more mental and social freedoms in these little islands.

So we don't have subway?😏🙄and you could order whatever ever you want in KFC one they have it so that about wanting two legs or whatever isn't true and yeah our KFC is the best🌎🇬🇩😁and everything isn't meant for the fridge ..you see that's what traveling does it opens your eyes👁to see how fortunate some of you are back in the states
Well that's a thing. IF they have it. Which again, in the states you go places and they always have everything and the service is faster. And, there's been multiple times going to KFC and you try to switch what comes on the combo and me and family have been told it comes how it is in the image. And I know. I've traveled to many places outside of Grenada and know that I'm fortunate. As stated in the beginning of this video, I wasn't talking down. It's merely observations that are much different from back home
They don’t let you change nothing in KFC. I’ve been to 3 (I’m sure that’s all of them in Grenada) and every time I asked to change something or for a specific piece of chicken the answer was no
