    I asked ChatGPT to write me a crochet pattern for a small lacy doily and it gave me pretty good pattern. I asked it if it had created the pattern and it admitted that it had found it free online . I told it that I wanted it to create a unique one and it got quite offended and said it couldn't, then said it had nothing more to say and closed the chat box 😂😂 It actually made it seem more human!

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Oh, that's funny! I have never had longer conversation with it! Although now after this pattern didn't work I continued the chat, saying that there were too many mistakes in the pattern and it apologised and sent a new pattern! I haven't looked to see what it would be like 😄

    I asked Google if AI can create a crochet pattern and this was the answer...
    AI was not designed to create things like crochet or knitting patterns. However since such patterns are a form of language it is theoretically possible for the program to create one. Many curious crafter's have tried their hand at this, with increasingly absurd results.
    Thank you for your amusing video, no doubt at some point AI will be able to help us crocheters, but not just yet.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Google seems right at this point! Wonder how long will it take that AI will be able to do crochet!

    • @redmoonvenus7327
      @redmoonvenus7327 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At least that's an honest answer !
      Alas, some of these AI generated patterns find their way into stores (like Etsy), accompanied with a beautiful (obviously also AI generated) image of a supposed finished result that has nothing to do with the pattern itself...
      And some beginer crocheters might spend money on these patterns, then believe that they can't crochet it due to their own lack of expérience.
      I hate to think of a beginner crocheter being spammed out of their money for that, and then disapointed and possibly giving up crochet because they think they are not up to the task.
      Fortunately there are enough excellent free and paying ressources for beginners out there, but the fact that it is mixed up with non-free AI nonsense, is concerning.

    11:57 Not what you asked for, but it looks like it could be a bucket hat for a fashion doll (such as Barbie). I imagine AI doesn't have many creatives behind it, inputting/programming the knowledge AI would need to produce effective instructions for crochet, or recipes (another type of "let's test what AI gives me when I ask for X" videos that I've watched). Interesting use of AI.
    I've seen another TH-cam creator use AI for food recipes, they turned out so so, he said.
    Lol, AI clearly does not know how to write Advanced crochet patterns, or assumes the user will interpret what it means, it assumes some things with the food recipes too.
    I wonder, could AI provide a pic of the finished crochet work? Maybe AI is only able to do beginner patterns?

    • @TuulaMaaria

      Earlier I asked it to make a flower pattern and it was a beginner one, very simple 4 rounds. I haven't made it but it looked correct. Art AI programmes can do images that look like crochet but I haven't tried any to see if they could actually make a correct photo from a pattern! At the moment, I doubt it!

As of right now, AI really doesn't get crocheting and knitting patterns--that seems to be AI's Achilles heel. I've even read articles that have said that crochet seems to be the one thing that AI can't figure out.

    I seriously hope that AI will continue to struggle with this and that it is not just a matter of time before it will be able to produce patterns….And even if it does eventually succeed in creating patterns, I hope people will realise that AI can’t come up with something original and that it uses copyright material from other artists and designers to come up with something “new”. Just like it does now with arts and illustrations…… :( Sure, AI can be used for lots of good things, but I don’t like it at all that it is invading the world of creativity.
