    Looking at the DCS back in the day, it has come a long way but this awesome engine sounds of A10 is definitely gotta come back now..

    Really enjoying the UH-1H and F86-F in DCS. Hugely nice to fly with the Thrustmaster Warthog. I don't know how DCS manages such accuracy but they just nail it every time.

    This is a simulation but it demonstrates what Fast Jets simply cannot understand.

    Is this a realistic scenario? A company gets jumped by half a battalion worth of infantry and vehicles, and they send TWO aircraft to help?
    ......and they proceed to wreck shop? Man you two are a pleasure to hear work.

    • @integralsrulz
      @integralsrulz  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +HotaruZoku It's not very realistic, considering a battalion would be about 1/10 odds. But, it makes for good watchin'. NAWWW MEAN???

      It is not unheard off. In Korea 1950, between November 27th and the December the 4th, US marines from Fox company of 7th battalion, 2nd regiment, was surrounded and almost overrun by multiple attacks from Chinese battalions but they stood their ground. Fox company happens to stand in the way for a Chinese invasion army (~100 thousand man strong) trying to make it past a narrow passage which had been designated Fox company as outpost.
      Similar things happen all the time during WWII. For instance, and quite famous, during the Battle of the Bulge the 101:th airborn became isolated at Bastogne and surrounded by the German 5th panzar army. E company was exposed to 110mm artillery fire and had to fight off German infantry assaults in the forests outside Bastogne, including enemy support from armored units with heavy guns.
      An attacker usually need a 5:1 advantage to overrun a defense position, so you need a battalion sized unit to take out a company. If the defender then have air support life can be very pesky for the attacker, even with "only" two air crafts.

      jomen112 I wasn't talking trash. Two A-10's is nothing to sneeze at, at any time. Maybe just being a civy, I would send more than two aircraft to such a call.
      But ah well.

      @danni8191 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      HotaruZoku More interesting is that the red half battalion had no organic air defense. Should be a nminimum of 9 manpad launchers with three rockets each (ADL platoon) and most armored cars with HMG or more powerful being able to elevate to 82degrees and take potshots at them. If its a full light battalion it would have medium SAM and radar slewed SPAAG.
      The only thing they had to deal with is hand cranked SPAAG like its WWII.

    Nice to see some decent flying and communication. Most other videos i end up leaving mid way frustrated at their obvious mistakes. My two complaints would be to use the vertical a lot more in manoeuvring and to use your systems to their full capacity. The vertical on some of the turns would allow you to reduce your turn radius, turn faster with gravity, and come into the attack with more altitude compared with all the level turning. And generally remaining so low is what made you and your friend take so much damage. Avionics, you tended to focus a lot on direct attacks etc which suits the situation. But markers, passing off targets with your spi more often, bda with the targetting pod etc would all help. Plus before the engagement setting up custom weapons profiles etc would have helped a lot too. Reducing CBU spread, rocket launch profiles and the like would all reduce your workload in the actual pass. But by and large its refreshing to see a video where someone gets the general method and communication right.

      +Olivia Lambert Huh. I've gotta admit it's quite weird to see a pretty face interest in this kind of stuff... Don't listen to these fuckers, sister, that's some real nice advice. And I admit, it's hard to see a serious sim vid on YTB that people actually know what they're doing and not zipping and full throttling the jet altogether. But to be honest, it's hard not to gain alt when, I don't know about y'all, but my aiming work is horrible on the GAU even after months of flying, I guess it's all the fires, maneuverings that haunt me, so before I struck the several targets my flight would be heading some place around cherubs one and three every times, sometimes it's even too late to pull up and at times I miss and got to do a rerun altogether.

    • @olivialambert4124
      @olivialambert4124 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Matthew Clifford Thanks, I appreciate the support. I'm not great with the GAU either, I'll tend to use it against easier targets, for its intended purpose I usually either open fire from too far and evade too quickly or do the opposite with a near straight path in and fly out covered in damage. From what I've seen of the real world pilots though they tend to ingress as low as they can, pop up and pitch back with a 90ish degree turn straight into firing then onto evasive manoeuvres for the egress, It just seems to be a practice thing along with a clear plan how to manoeuvre into an engagement position behind the tank. Plus I tend to feel more comfortable flying high out of AAA range as the modern doctrine rather than low out of SAM engagement envelope as the cold war doctrine and the A10 design.

      +Olivia Lambert Hahah... wish I could be the same as everyone. I came to DCS A-10 purely for the "Brrrrt...", I'm so in love with the thing that I use it on almost everything despite all rational thoughts, part of the reason why I rack up so many crashes. And that's me too, I already hold the button before I can even have a good visual on the target and depend on the feeds from the Litening's pod to guide my strafe, but it's a crude work, especially when there are hi-tempo maneuvers involved so, like above, most of the time I got too close and got peppered by that. Yeah, I notice that as well, the pilots circularize from a good alt, leveling down to 700ft with a sharp bank and fire from the rear then immediate roll and popping flares, maybe it won't be the same if triple A or MANPADS are present but Middle East is not somewhere that got a whole lot of it. Me, I'm opposite, I'm that idiot in the squad who never go higher than 5 angels and always try hit-and-run as fast as I could on the SAM and the units they covered. But hey, it worked, most of the time, know my boundary so whenever the pucker factor is high I dump all the ammos from afar and limp back. I'm more of a happy-go-lucky, so got lots of fun doing that, so the squad got me on point all the time to soft them up, at least I know I'm good at something. Since the Hog can takes quite a lot of hits, it fits my style more than those flimsy fighters.

    • @olivialambert4124
      @olivialambert4124 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Matthew Clifford I suspect I am probably one of the few people playing the game who hates the A10. I see it as entirely obsolete in the modern low intensity conflict setting. I bought it when there were only 2 DCS modules despite strongly preferring air to air combat, but the complexity of the simulation drew me in and the constant action in air to ground kept me. But it shows, I still fly the aircraft like a delicate little F16 and poke them from afar. In the middle east they will be doing similar because there is zero threat above 10k ft whereas below they have a slight danger of AAA but a very real threat of MANPADS. Most of the simulations here, though, are more of a cold war situation with threats like an SA-11 keeping you low and thats where I struggle. I rarely limp back in my A10, but even with an aircraft full of AGM-65 I'm sure I won't get nearly as many targets as you. It looks incredible in videos, I just can't keep up with the tempo without carefully planning each ingress and egress because up until DCS A10 found me I was near exclusive to air to air combat with the occasional pre-planned deep strike mission. Out of interest whilst flying low like that how often will you find yourself in a near collision with a friendly? I can't imagine being able to keep track of everyone around, especially when everyone is going for targets in the same location.

    • @matthewclifford7217
      @matthewclifford7217 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Olivia Lambert It's fine, really, but it's undeniable that the A-10 can pack a huge punch and at the same time took even more punches than it can carried (In real life, as far as I see there ain't a lot of that toughness being simulated in DCS... its real world counterpart can gulp up far more fires than in DCS). The firepower of A-10 simply rendered the many low-armed insurgents in Mid-East outgunned a bazillion to one, even when there are anti-air assets involved (DShK, perhaps) as they can do some serious hit even from afar, however it's a probable odd for the A-10 when it comes face-to-face with Strela or so, as it's not very fast but made up for the loads, after all, it's a CAS platform.
      F-16 doesn't appeal to me much so I didn't make any effort to learn the controls. But I did fly F-18s for a while, partly because of the carriers and part because it's my second favorite, but it's still my second option, most of the time I only do it to fly demo with my guys, the rest I just do it for the high-intensity dogfight, it felt weird to do air-to-ground on the Hornet.
      Maybe it's just from the lack of videos I watched, since most of the ground vids from the troops about the A-10's strafes only record the shots, not the Hog itself. But you do make sense about the threats of AAA below that alt, however they'll rely mostly on ground TAC to provide them info on the targets before closing in, thus giving them an alt criterion to vary. I'm not that fazed on low alt flights, since I even enjoy them, however it's my best note that the A-10's speed allows me to make more precise correction on the headings and to plan ahead of ground-hugging maneuvers instead of the rush of lighter jets, I can't tell you how many times I over correct my pitch and cross straight down the waiting ground in the first few weeks.
      In my entire DCS' career a day of flight I usually have 2-3 occasions with a nacelle in flame, though most of the time I made it back without much fuss, since I'm a big boy now, I think, but yeah, it's no doubt the A-10 can score more kills than any crafts in DCS World as far as I'm aware, since I can always resort back to the GAU when I dump all of my loads.
      Me and my squad always plan ahead each flights for 10-15 mikes before going in, we had some real fun doing that, but it's always the continuous fires that most of the time I can barely remember the ins and outs paths so we keep it flexible and the leader sound off updates on the fly.
      No, though I may have had some close call here and there but proud to say I never ram into someone and screw everything up. We tried to check in our altimeter as much as we can and vary them so that there won't be any collisions, as well as going in on pairs and each pairs circle the killbox around until there's nothing left but bits. Though I DID capped a bit of my pairmate's right wing and also flame his rightie nacelle when he shifted in front of my firing line when we're a bit close on that run, not lethal and he made it back but we got the lesson of loosing up after that particular incident. The curses are colorful in comm, though.

    HORRIBLE Shooter-Cover transition - lead sounded more like he was two. No calls for being visual on lead coming off target, LAZY maneuvering/pull onto the target, LAZY safe escapes after weapons employment - if you don't hear the AOA tone you're wrong. Two pretty much deciding on what he was going to attack when and with what weapon - again, lead would be directing that. Attempt to employ LGBs WAY too close/low to properly lase the target. No calls of in, with direction, with weapon, i.e., "Two's in from west, Maverick." Lead calls, "Do you see the ZSUs?" and Two is like 'sure, whatever'. Lead should have made the threat the number one priority...extend out, come back, take them out - with Two covering and directing jinks/maneuvering to counter the threat, then prosecute the target. I couldn't watch the rest...
