  • As the RS660 supertwin build progresses Dave is busy removing as much weight as possible and getting ready for the big TT fuel tank, so the ignition switch is coming off as well as a few other bits..
The big question is, can the ABS be fully removed?

As the most amateur of amateur mechanics I find this all quite fascinating. The pursuit of grams and the balance of electronic intervention. Lucky my bikes are old analog beasties. I love this channel.

Thanks for being onboard. I love older analogue bikes too, although carbs and modern fuel are making them more awkward, they still ride really well

Hi Dave, little trick I use when changing hoses/calipers is to pull the lever in and hold it in with a zip tie or rubber band. Fluid can no longer drain down and it saves the time of draining and refilling.

Good tip that!, I'll use it next time and claim it as my own :)

I was hoping you were able to remove the aluminum part of the abs pump from the electronics. I am sure it can be done, but like you, I don't want to screw it up in the process. Great videos!

It's amazing the ABS adds so little weight on the RS660 (relatively speaking), on my 'blade its a whopping 11kg...

By 'eck that's a lot! And Honda used to be the kings of weight saving!

@@obsession_engineering Yeah they started the whole attack on weight thing with the blade in 92. I mostly blame the EU for the ridiculous weights of road bikes these days, it's such a shame, but 11kg ABS? That's all on Honda.

Did you end up just disconnecting the hoses from the ABS pump/box and leaving it that way? Are you running the stock ECU or race ECU and did you have to do anything to it in terms of letting it know the ABS was no longer functional?

    • @obsession_engineering

Stock ecu with a rapid bike module for fuelling adjustment. Ecu pump is still there, just not connected and there's no fault codes 😁

    What's your brake line measurements?

curious why you didn't go with a cheaper alternative and just completely remove the entire ignition switch and button. woodcraft makes a harness that lets you start/stop your bike from your throttle buttons, i've ran it for years. they make a plug for the harness to eliminate the ABS, but it's stupid expensive for what it is.

I've converted ignition wiring myself before to use the kill switch, but the wiring on the kill switch here isn't rated as high as the ignition wiring and reliability will be important around the TT
