Loved the 2010 movie ep with OSP and really enjoyed this episode as well. A certain subsection of fans on tiktok have somehow convinced themselves that the movie is better than the show so it's nice to hear some positive things about the series. Looking forward to part 2!
Yes! I have been waiting for this. Personally, I'm really enjoying this live action version of the book. So much better than the movies. Love that Rick is involved.
Awesome stuff! my favorite thing about the show is this makes me feel nostalgia in a way I haven't with anything else. I used to re-read the books all the time, but as I got older I had less time and other things to read. Watching this show makes me want to pick up my battered copy of The Lightning Thief again.
Movie- being a demigod is awesome, bro! Show- Everything for half-bloods sucks. The world either wants you dead or forgets you exist, & no one believes the truth. You. Don’t. Want. This!!
Cerberus Is a Good Boy, he does his job well and loves music and treats. :] Edit: I know I didn't put a lot of though into this, but I love the vibe of Hecate so much, and she seems to always know what's going on so I feel like she would let me know when to bounce.
I have a couple of myth-based facts, but first an FYI: Cillian Murthy’s name is pronounced like “kill”, not “sill”; many Irish names using a “c” use the former not latter pronunciation. And Murphy is notorious for being touchy about people misspeaking his name… With that, I’m done being a pedant. Anyway, on Chimera: it’s funny how the word has become shorthand for “any mish-mash creature” in many contexts (the word “chimeric” originated here…) when it’s not just treated as a species. Because the creature was meant to be female, and the name literally means “she-goat”; however, the physical depictions usually use a male lion because a lot of artists back then didn’t know that female lions lack a mane - even Rick Riordan depicts The Chimera as a male (named “Sonny” I believe by Echidna) in the book. The show’s design is really fantastic, as instead of three heads she has one with the goat horns on a lioness’s head and still the snake-head for a tail; it’s unique and I adore it frankly. Incidentally, the name of her likely-brother “Cerberus” (or Kerberos in Latin I think?) means “spotted” or “spotted one”… Which means that Hades essentially named his guard dog “Spot”! And of course the name has itself become a shorthand for three-headed dogs… I don’t know what Pegasus (which we saw briefly in Episode 1) means but he similarly was a single-species individual since becoming a full species name because we humans are paradoxically both complicated but simple.
Oh! I should also note on a non-mythological trivia thing, but Chiron’s actor is actually a skilled equestrian and even runs a camp teaching youngsters how to ride; they actually didn’t know this when they cast him, but it was a boon since he knows his way around them.
Haha I really should know that about Cillian's name. I always panic and pick the first pronunciation to come to mind. I do really love the Chimera design in the show!
are you guys gassing up the disney narnia movies or the BBC ones? I couldn't get into the disney ones at all. the BBC ones were the bomb when I was a kid though.
We do really love the Disney/Walden ones! But as a little kid I did really love the BBC Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. And I do still have an appreciation for the Narnia they depict!
i dont doubt the effects were better in the new ones, i think i only saw the first one and didnt find the kids as engaging as in the BBC one where I was far more invested in their character archs, especially as they aged out. I was bummed they were again skipping book 1 to start in lion the witch and the wardrobe then they only did 1 sequel I think right which was only part of what they covered in the BBC version. I'd have loved so much more for the magician's nephew, or a horse and his boy or the silver chair or the last battle. Instead, just getting the same 2-3 stories out of a 7 story series adapted is just disappointing IMO. I get they are going off of what's most popular and publishing order (the incorrect order and I'll fight over it), instead of chronological, but I think if they focused more on telling a good story and not riding trends or sticking to what is the most known in advance they'd have a better final product. Just my .02. (FWIW A horse and his boy, the silver chair, and the last battle are my favorites in the series and that's also probably impacting my opinions.)@@notmyfantasypodcast
Ooooh I was hoping for a follow up!

That is truly an insane take. The movie isn't even strong as a film narrative, let alone as an adaptation.

It is really fun to see the story adapted with love!

It does feel like you're inside the book and it makes me want to read the other books
I love the assh*le grandpa's logic of "For liability purposes it will be the sea that kills her not me", so it's totally not familicide.
Yeah people in stories find the worst loopholes.

Very much more in line with the book!

Hahah Chronological over publishing is a HOT take but I appreciate it. Silver Chair is really underrated and Jill is a great protagonist!
@@notmyfantasypodcast Is it? Idk it's how the book series was printed that I grew up with. They were numbered on the spines in a box set.
