As an African who visited America for just one month I do not at all relate to african Americans nor am I trying to benefit from them. One of the first books we read in school in my country was about an african who moved to america and started referring to african Americans as brothers only for him to be called a monkey by the african americans. So I always knew there's a huge difference since I was young.
2:17 African Americans are the descendants of slaves in America. African American is an ethnicity. Black Americans are everyone black, meaning Caribbeans, Africans, and African Americans. If an African wanted to refer to their ethnicity and nationality they’d say Nigerian-American or Somalian-American. Same thing for Caribbeans, Trinidadian-American or Jamaican-American. Edit: I forgot to mention Afro-Latin people, referred to as Afro-Latin Americans as well, or their specific ethnicities, like Columbian-Americans or Mexican-Americans.
Idk about that, not from the US but all the Caribbean here (jamaïcain, haitians etc) don’t called themselves african American. We will call ourselves Caribbean and say out roots are from Africa. You could legit offend some Caribbean/ by calling them african American where I am.
@@moufou4life I'm just saying Black American isn't specific to ethnicity, it's racial. It's an umbrella term for all black people in America. Yes, we're still Caribbean but if we're referring to citizenship, and we reside in America, we're Black Americans or Jamaican-American like I said.
@@whatzittooyah so you’re saying if you are born in the US therefore having a US citizenship you aren’t American? Lmao the delusion is crazy these days…
I don't think she meant submissive. Agreeable maybe. As an African, I think we're calmer and go with things more than african americans. We're less likely to bring shit up and we'll just keep it to ourselves. This is just my experience. I'm kenyan.
@Taran lmao what ? bruh people were literally taken of the coasts of west africa. African americans are mostly descendants of a mixture of these ethnicities. Though i believe african americans were much more robbed of their culture than other groups. Jamaicans still have some lone words from west african languages till this day.
the lady that said Africans are more submissive isn't wrong really, black americans are always boycotting and trying to mold the workplace to better benefit them while Afrcians are often just grateful for the work.
17:00 when you start talking about classism and racism you’re right to certain extent. However the reason that doesn’t work is because due to racism, minorities were put in systematically worse positions and therefore are generations behind in comparison to the white man.
Not anymore buddy I would say black people are at perfectly even ground in every part of America tbh. More white people are on ebt and government assistance than blk people but no one will ever understand that bc they have are racist towards white people that have no connection with their ancestors whatsoever
He's not right at all about that. Yall need to do your research on Black American history. In the USA, people have always even still been racist towards the rich and famous Black Americans. There are plenty of examples everyone can look up and a few posts down, I gave one with a link to Muhammad Ali sharing his story. He couldn't even go to his hometown's restaurant and eat after winning the country a Gold Medal due to him being Black American, yet they let the Africans in.

The model minority myth doesn't apply to Africans bro. On the corporate ladder an African will smoke and African American any day of the week cause our cultures have foundations of discipline and commitment. Even in my country cultures that are more fridged and more modest perform better in the workplace. African Americans just wanna shame people for putting their head down and doing their work.

Nicki moves to New york, so did mf doom. 21 Savage to Atlanta and in Case of Rihanna she moved for so long that she adapted US accent and u can tell the different between her accent from Barbados in some songs.
Agent, what you said about not being able to explain why you call your grandparents "they" and said it's about respect, and it is. Being Canadian, we also have French as a second language. when you talk about someone with respect, You= Vous, whereas tu= you, as well, but it's more for your friends. Always speak to your teachers, neighbours, authority, with respect and that's how that works!
His logic for the n word is stupid that word was used by white people in South Africa to describe black people the other was the K word. No offence in South Africa we wouldn't consider Black Americans as black because you don't know your tribe. All people of mix ancestry are considered coloured in South Africa i know thats like bad term for Americans but for us its a racial group. The reason for this divide is due to apartheid. Americans are self-centred they don't educate themselves about history and just make bold statements. I hope thi0s clip isn't full representation of how African American's think. Also we don't refer to each other as black among ourselves rather by your tribe example zulu or xhosa and even white people do it example, Afrikaners or English.
Depends, yes; some Africans grew up around Black Americans, so ADOS culture is all they know and they generally stand with ADOS on political issues. Fact is no matter what part of African they are from, if they dark complected, in the States they will be viewed as Black. No, some Africans did not grow up around ADOS, having different political opinions, wanting nothing to do with us, also have a inferiority complex over us.
Agent shouldn’t be saying the word either. Canada was where Black people fleed from slavery. But a lot of Foreigners go to Canada who are straight from Africa. The logic behind Africans not saying it is they also don’t embody the trauma Black Americans endured from slavery. But you use it because you look like us but our culture is “cool” so you’re not really us. African are more agreeable because most are not in prison. But a lot of Black people are.

@@Real_badda The Egyptians resurrect their dead language to call Africans that. It was the Spanish that used the word at the time, simply because a word has roots in another language doesn't mean it no longer belongs to the current language. My statement remains true.
@@JohnDoe-bh2lp no it does not lmaoo you need to look up the definition of Etymology, if a word has previous roots in another culture it was not created by said culture ... duh ..... The term encompasses the various gods and goddesses worshipped by the ancient Egyptians. (Naga's are the Kings who supposedly decended from the Netjer .... the gods) ..... and when you say "in that time" what time period are you referring to .... do your research & stop debating (and yes the dead language your referring to is called Medu Neter the language of the gods)
@@Real_badda I know what etymology is. Words can have roots in other languages and belong to the language the new and altered word is now part of. An example would be the word "Alcohol" which comes from Arabic "Al-Kuhl (كحل)" which means "To burn". In English Alcohol means liquor or a group of molecules, two very different definitions from the Arabic one, it is a new word due to having a new definition and new pronunciation despite having Arabic roots. You would never consider it the same word as "Al-Kuhl" like you are for Latin in the Romance languages and English. By your logic, we aren't speaking English, but French, Latin, Greek and some Arabic. If you knew basic etymology was you wouldn't be arguing that having a root in another language removes it from the modern spoken language, that would destroy the foundational definitions of languages in etymology.

I think the black Americans (Indigenous Niji or Turtle Island) that have a problem with it are mostly of American Indian, Puerto Rican, Dominican Jamaican, Trinidad, Haitian South American Latin Brazilian, Cuban, Asiatic, etc descent. they were not from Africa and not a slave but then their culture was erased (Racial integrity act of 1924) when they all were categorized as “Black” “nword” “African American” along with the African slave descendants despite having ancestry from different places including being ALREADY HERE Indigenous to America prior to slavery.
@@moufou4life because yall are Caribbean?? what are you on about😭
thank God someone said it. I thought I was gonna have to explain it for the 100th time
@@moufou4life I'm just saying Black American isn't specific to ethnicity, it's racial. It's an umbrella term for all black people in America. Yes, we're still Caribbean but if we're referring to citizenship, and we reside in America, we're Black Americans or Jamaican-American like I said.

The model minority myth doesn't apply to Africans bro. On the corporate ladder an African will smoke and African American any day of the week cause our cultures have foundations of discipline and commitment. This is so dumb so following that logic, 21 Savage,Nicki Minaj, Rihanna,MF Doom shouldn't be allowed to say the n word? people speak the way the culture arounds them. Nicki moves to New york, so did mf doom. 21 Savage to Atlanta and in Case of Rihanna she moved for so long that she adapted US accent and u can tell the different between her accent from Barbados in some songs.
It’s true. Nobody wants to teach or talk about Africa, but will tell you everything about other places. Especially European countries…
I mean it’s been around since the 1500s so all this gatekeeping is kind of funny.

But a lot of Black people are.
telling Africans they can’t say nigga when the Kings of Africa where called Negus (Kebra Negast) is crazy hence the name Nijah & Nigeria
The N word comes from the Spanish word for black but Negus is separate and an Ethiopian word for king. Kebra Nagast means story of kings
@@JohnDoe-bh2lp incorrect The Spanish word your talking about, came from the Latin Word the Romans used, which came from a Greek word, which came from the Egyptian word ..... thats called Chronology ..... keep being a truth seeker bro you'll get there
@@Real_badda The Egyptians resurrect their dead language to call Africans that. It was the Spanish that used the word at the time, simply because a word has roots in another language doesn't mean it no longer belongs to the current language. My statement remains true.
@@JohnDoe-bh2lp no it does not lmaoo you need to look up the definition of Etymology, if a word has previous roots in another culture it was not created by said culture ... duh ..... In Egyptian mythology, “neter” (also spelled as “netjer” or “netjeru” in plural) refers to a divine force or deity.
I be giving everyone the pass (that mf counterfeit)
