great you got your lake there eyh? who would have thought it would be used for firecontrol! You better pass the local fire station and give them a tray of beer or something like that. p.s. a sprinkler system in place is a great idea but please do understand the temperatures involved. If you do install a system you would need to have that system go out around your house for atleast 250meters in diameter. Surface flames can get higher then a meter and reach over 1000c. A surface with a small fire like you had you cant even get close to that without specialised gear on and this example is for a surface fire, not even a fullblown forrestfire. Radiant heat is a killer, smoke can be as well, not being able to see anything oe breathe properly! Happy you had the lake cleared from weeds in and around it, if the fire would have been around the lake the choppers might not have been able to use it. Verry happy you guys are safe!

Indeed! We were so worried that the fire would spread further. Definitely! We have so much thanks for the fire fighters and pilots 🙏🏻 yes for sure, we didn’t realise that our water source would be this important to us. A couple of weeks ago we watched them travel miles past us back and forth for a fire near Silvares (in one of our recent videos) to the closest water source of the marateca dam. We can’t complain a few things knocked over and apples blown off a tree… a very very very small price to pay for the safety of our farm and to prevent further damage to our neighbours land and the nature reserve it was incredibly close to!
Yep we watched them travel to the marateca dam for water to take to a fire in Silvares which was featured in one of our recent videos, we were certainly glad to have a water source on our land… saved us I think. @@jonnyandsamofficial your neighbors in the area must be lucky to have your pond so close to the fire …… am certain that they will thank you. …. Cheers.
Portugal needs more than ever to toughen up the penalties against the firestarters, dozens of firefighters have already been injured this year and in a year where we haven't been having that many big fires unlike last year still it really pisses me off watching all that nature, houses, business and cattle lost, we need to go medieval on their asses that's for sure.
hope you are all okay, was it Joseph and Mariana you had on the phone? Great effort the police does too, to go and check/warn everyone and impressive flying skill from that pilot, excellent with a huge pond so close to the fire... those things contain like 2 m3 of water so that is a LOT of water dumped each time to smother the flames, about 1min roundtime on that is very good, other places the planes need to fly like 20 miles for water

Scary close 😱😱😱
great you got your lake there eyh? who would have thought it would be used for firecontrol!
We were literally just talking about that 😃👍 they deserve so much for the incredible work that they do… and they’re volunteers! Amazing.
Thanks for your advice! We are certainly looking into ways to be better prepared in the future.
For sure, we didn’t realise just how important our lake would be. We’re so grateful to the bombeiros 🙏🏻
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, so close but luckily you were safe good work bomboleros for your great action.
Thanks for watching and for your wishes 🙏🏻 yes we are so lucky to have the help of the fire fighters and our water source on the land
luckily the 2 helicopters in a combined effort were able to quickly extinguish the fire
We are so grateful to them 🙏🏻
How scary is this! 😮 Take care Jonny and Sam! 💛
We were so worried that the fire would spread further. The fire fighters are amazing here ❤️ thanks so much for your wishes
Wow, what a horrifying situation. Kudos to the pilots, amazing job, and not one without risks either, so lucky you had the water so close, sometimes it can be minutes to the nearest lake or sea, really helped them get the job done quickly... hope there's not too much damage after all of your hard work. Stay safe!!!! X
Imagine if no water source! The trips to get water would have been way longer. I LOVE Portugal!!!!
Aren't like 95% of the fires man made?
Yep we watched them travel to the marateca dam for water to take to a fire in Silvares which was featured in one of our recent videos, we were certainly glad to have a water source on our land… saved us I think. We love Portugal too and so grateful to the fire fighters and pilots for responding as rapidly as they did. I’m not sure if the percentage but this fire didn’t seem natural and very unusual for our region 🤔
Usualy those helis pilots are from Força Aérea / Air Force pilots..nice to see military skills being used in public and peacefull services..
They did an amazing job 🙏🏻
OOFFFFFT THAT WAS CLOSE ONE
Sure was!!
They are amaising. Hope you guys are ok? Must have had you worried!
They sure are! Yes we are safe and fine thank you. Oh definitely! We were genuinely concerned the fire was going to reach us and destroy everything
Dear Sam&jonny, lucky you are. Is that your pond we’re helicopter taking the water.? I hope nothings happened to my land , because I’m away working home. The fire department are very good ha!. It’s warm out there now, be alert,be safe.
Yes that’s our little lake they were using to extinguish the fire. So lucky and grateful to have chosen this land with a water source. We hope not too! Hope all is ok with your property. The bombeiros are incredible we have so much thanks for them 🙏🏻
Glad to see you are fine.🙏 How did it start or what made it start on fire?
Thanks so much 🙏🏻 we aren’t sure the cause of the fire but it didn’t seem natural and very unusual in our region
Please stay safe and vigilante.
Definitely! We learnt a lot from this 🙏🏻
Forgot to ask yesterday …… what is the water level in your pond now that they used a substantial amount for the fire ……
We can’t really notice a difference to be honest 👍 it’s surprising how much water is in that small area, must be 8-10 metres deep we think
I’m not sure if there are investigations into how the fire started but it didn’t look like from natural causes
hope you are all okay, was it Joseph and Mariana you had on the phone? Great effort the police does too, to go and check/warn everyone and impressive flying skill from that pilot, excellent with a huge pond so close to the fire... those things contain like 2 m3 of water so that is a LOT of water dumped each time to smother the flames, about 1min roundtime on that is very good, other places the planes need to fly like 20 miles for water
Thanks so much. Yes it was as they live down the road from us so we wanted to warn them and ask for their help contacting the bombeiros in Portuguese to explain what was happening and where we were. Yes the fire fighters, pilots and GNR were incredible at responding and dealing with the fire we have so much thanks for them! We are so glad for our water source, never did we think we’d experience something like this!
Very skillful flying 👍
Definitely! It was amazing to watch them at work
@@jonnyandsamofficial Yeah, you got some good footage there. my wife and I will be moving to the contryside of central portugal in the next few years so also good insight to the dangers of fire.
@@cstanleyhns it is very unusual for our region to experience a fire and we are not sure of the cause. If you are planning a move here definitely consider these things: low fire risk area, water source on the land, water pumps and sprayers and a fire escape plan ❤️ keep us updated with your journey and good luck with your search. Make sure you check out www.farmerforfun.com
Stay safe guys Xx
Thanks so much ❤️
Very skilled pilots doing an amazing job. Do you know the cause or was it just one of those random ones that could have been a cigarette or a piece of glass?
They sure did! Exactly, we aren’t sure but it didn’t seem like a spontaneous nature caused fire and very unusual for our region
perhaps consider investing in a fire fighting truck like the one from alex ...quinta fonte da pipa.
Our region is very low fire risk so it might be a bit much to go for a fire fighting vehicle but maybe we could consider that 🤔
@@jonnyandsamofficial there isn't such thing as low fire risk...they can start anytime anywhere, unfortunatly and one day might be too late.
👍
🙏🏻
Stay safe xx
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Welcome go Portugese summers!
We think maybe this wasn’t from natural causes… it’s very unusual for our area 🧐
Glad you are safe. Was that your lake they were using? If so all the clearance work you did must have helped them enormously.
That is indeed our lake they were using, I think we are super lucky to have that lake and super grateful to the fire fighters for responding so quickly ❤️
Lamento muito espero que estejam bem
obrigada pela preocupação. Nós estamos bem 🙏🏻

How did you find that land? Did you use an agent? Any recommendations?
We found our property via www.farmerforfun.com he’s a great estate agent and lovely guy, highly recommend!
