    This video brings me good old memories, 2003-2008 H-523, Kernville CA. Great video, good job guys, keep up the good work and be safe out there.

    Mar Wall how did you get that position on the helicopter? , I've looked on the Forest service website and its given me nothing as to how to get into fire aviation as a crew chief .

      Earned
      spend time on heli-tack support and any thing av related
      attrition rate isn't very high and alot of people who make that rating stay a while.

      I worked as a Helitack FF in AZ. Try calling your nearest USFS Supervisors office, each Natl. Forest has one. Look up the specific Natl Forest online to find the number, that should get you started.

    Nice work! What kind of rope to skid protection is used? Looks like a rub point? (Not judging only asking.)

    • @bamnmmnm
      @bamnmmnm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rope doesn't slide on the skid when it's weighted, it's stationary with the top end hooked to the ceiling of the ship and the bottom of the rope is on the ground. When the spotter drops the rope bag initially, they hold it out to clear the skid and even if it makes contact with the skid the rope itself isn't heavy enough to really damage the skid.

    If it's like BC it is an internal spotter position

    • @itsyaboimat2393
      @itsyaboimat2393 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irongutz how do I go about getting the postion is it something i can apply for right after I finish my S130 and S190 or do I have to have boots on the ground experince before jumping over to the avaition side of the house as thats the side I want my career in

    • @krouxmosby1
      @krouxmosby1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gimp - Get your FFT1 and S-290 to be competitive when applying in USAjobs. You need at least 2 years boots on the ground experience (hotshots, engines or handcrews).

      Would I have to do your job for a couple years before I tried out for Firewatch Cobra as thats the dream job within the forest service

    • @julioguzman6898

      They remove brush with hoes, axes, and make fire lines so that the fire can stop. The also scout, and some carry fire hoses and portsble pumps that they can use if there is a river or lake near the fire.

      @@clairecipelletti485 Would you be willing to explain this to me further? I'm currently a USCG helicopter aircrewman and looking to transition to a civilian career here soon.

    • @bobbilaval6171

      @@Heypistola rappel spotter is a qualification, not really a position. It varies a bit but Helitack crew structure is a supervisor, assistant supervisor, lead crew members, senior firefighters, and firefighters. At each level you generally need one year of experience at the previous level as well as having specie qualifications. Entry level Helitack need to have at least one season of previous fire experience.
