Every year, I grow several varieties of tomatoes because the flavor profile in spaghetti sauce is greatly enhanced by the mix of so many varieties. Looks like I need to add the "Abe Lincoln" tomato to the 2020 seed order! I am glad that Baker Creek did an episode of SEED STORIES about this variety. Thank you! Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA --8 /29/2019.
I just ordered these and a mess of other seeds, and I am so excited to share them with my friends and family!! Your seeds cost a little more than other places but the volume I receive makes it more than worth the cost!! Add to that the freebies, and the fact that you operate in the same agricultural growing zone in which I live, and I'm more than happy to pay the cost; you make it up with free shipping anyway.
@@antMBTC you have GOT to grow Abe Lincoln tomatoes!!! Even with severe neglect of the plants (lazy gardening), they produced many large sweet fruit that had wall to wall flesh! No gel pockets filled with seeds, no bitterness or acid reflux after eating them, just a refreshing tomato that is fantastic in any possible edible application. We cut a few for fried green tomatoes, and even those were sweet with only the slightest tang. They are absolutely massive fruit, as well. My garden was a jungle, and not everything produced (I blame the lazy gardening techniques I learned), and I got a few seeds that didn't belong in certain packets, so I chock that up to getting to grow seeds that I thought about ordering, and couldn't afford.
@@antMBTC I will never not recommend Abe! I'm also looking at Amish Paste, San Marzano, Great White, and an unidentified behemoth of a yellow tomato with red streaking throughout that I got this summer from my local food bank. We thought it was a melon or shiny skinned squash when we got it, but it turned out to be the first tomato that my husband has ever demanded that I grow for him. 😆
@s.s.9149 I did all the paste toms and I really didn't like Amish paste or San Mar. My very favorite paste/ salad tom is plum regal!! I couldn't recommend a better small tom that fits the bill. Salads , canned , sauce and just plan eating. I just bought 200 plum regal seeds.
That was great! I germinated and planted 3 Abe Lincolns. Looking forward to seeing how they do. Your info is much appreciated. I am in 7B North of Atlanta, where it can get pretty hot in the Summer. Last June was a scorcher.
I'm getting this variety for the name of the seed. One of my favorite presidents since I wrote my first history paper in the 4th grade. Many years (ahem) later, I'm sitting in a hotel outside of DC and wouldn't you know it, an awesome photo of the great Lincoln Memorial!
customers at the farmers market use to ask...wheres the guy with those ugly tomatoes ? people had gotten so use to buying perfect tasteless tennis balls at the store they had forgotten what a real tomato taste like . i could sell all i could grow .
Yup people used to tell me I don't like tomatoes. 😅 I told them that was because they never had a real tomato taste this! 😂 Oh my God I like tomatoes!!! 🤔 😂😂😂😂😂
Wow I wonder what the trick is to get them that big...I grew some this year and I do have some pretty big ones ...a few that one slice will cover a piece of bread but I also have tiny ones too so not sure I got the Real deal... lol
I live in mid Florida and personally only had success with raised beds or containers. In the full summer heat okra and the purple Asian eggplant were the only plants that made it. Komatsuna did great. Fall gardening is really the best there because you can plant some spring veg too. Rarely frosts if at all.
Teresa Peterson isn’t that all we have to go on for all the seeds in this catalog tho or any of the seed suppliers out there? I’m not being negative but at some point you have got to believe that baker creek or any company selling seeds would have done their homework before bringing these to market. Their good reputation isn’t worth ruining because they are greedy. Trust your fellow man!
Keep these seed story videos coming! They are wonderful!
So we owe allot of thanks to the mystery man at the gas station really. I love seed story’s so much by far my favorite

Shanna knows her veggies, Thanks 🙏
Oh my goodness! I’m putting this on my baker creek wish list for next year!!!!!
I will be adding this one to my wish list.
Thanks for the story, I am going to order some soon for the coming season, can't wait!
Must have these seeds!
I believe I will give these a try this year, just for the fun of it.
Growing this in a pot and it's growing like crazy 😅😅
Abraham Lincoln is my new favorite tomato similar flavour to super marmande tomatoes.

I'm very tempted to try these but I wonder if they'll ripen fast enough if it's not grown in full sun?
This variety does require full sun!
Abraham Lincoln grew pretty well outdoors in the uk this year and they tasted amazing.
I'm convinced. I'm going to give these a try.
I have grown the latter variety of Abe Lincoln, didn't know about the original version. Am tomatoe guru. I thought.
Tips on how to grow these in zone 7?
starting early indoors, plenty of organic matter in your soil, and planting in full sun often goes a long way!
Wishing I hadn’t taken them off my first order from Baker Creek ☹️
I'm really struggling to garden in Florida (zone 9) as it's more like a giant sandbox than where I grew up in Nova Scotia. Do these do well in zone 9?
Tanya, these will grow quite well in zone 9

How tall does it get?
They usually get 5-7 feet tall
@@RareSeedsBC ok great thanks!!!
I cant find these seeds
TM260 are currently available at rareseeds.com
3lbs is half of two of each of my cats and a third of the other, that's a big mater
Where can I order the seeds?
Right here -> www.rareseeds.com/store/vegetables/tomatoes/red/abe-lincoln-original-tomato
Would these be good for salsa?
yes indeed, Kelly!
Is there a way to tell whether these are truly the original seeds? Considering it was some dude at a gas station who only had his word to verify.
Good question! We have compared these to old reference materials as well as to the early maturing variety which is commercially available.
