That article was an awesome read. Pretty accurate summary of the article. A lot the stuff is circumstantial but there is a pattern of behavior. That snow bass video was hilarious lol.

Any time money is involved, people will cheat. Where I live, a guy was caught cheating in local ice fishing tournaments where first place was only $500. He was caught using live minnows in tournaments where live bait wasn't allowed. He won 2 or 3 of them before he got caught.

@@hoss011 Someone told the tournament director that they saw him using them at one of the tournaments he won. The TD went over to his hut during the tournament and had him reel in his line, and sure enough, live minnow on the hook. They couldn't prove he used them in the tournaments he won, but after he was caught, he was obviously disqualified from that tournament, an banned from any future tournaments.

That article was an awesome read. Strange how so many people were so afraid of this guy they wouldn't come forward. That one part in the article where his tournament partner talked about him pretending to fight an obviously dead fish was funny but sad. Why can't people just be happy with what they have. Thanks for passing this info on.
Because a lot of those guys were just younger fishermen trying to break into the local tournament scene. Making an accusation against the most well known guy without any proof could ruin their own reputations, and make their lives very difficult. It would be the word of an unknown, against the word of the local legend who had multiple lake records, and who was regarded as one of the best big bass guys in the country. Who are people going to believe? Remember, a lot of this happened back when things like go-pro's and smart phones didn't even exist, and "portable" video cameras were still using vhs tapes.

I read that whole article and was shocked. I'm not really into following big Bass anglers, but it was disturbingly fascinating.
Watching him pose in lots of different "action shots" with the same fish and posting them as multiple fish on social media was particularly fascinating. A psychologist would have a field day figuring this guy out. (I get cheating for money, but fame stuff and claiming records is just weird)

My eyes aren't the greatest and with my small screen Android phone I have to explode the print big enough to see it and then slide it back and forth to read it so thank you for the information deciphering that 9 page article so that I can understand fully what this guy did. You know it's disgusting that when you really do catch a nice fish in a tournament that might beat the next guy by a couple of pounds that you get looked at sideways because of guys like this.

A few stand outs ( of many ) events:
1. Mike Long calling out other anglers cheating ( who were legitimately cheating also ). The hypocracy almost gave me an aneurysm.
2 Mike Long taking pics with another angler's fish and submitting it as proof of a larger lake record not once, but TWICE!!
He would know if someone is cheating. He pretty much did almost anything you could think of to cheat at fishing.

There wasn’t really anything we could do when he threatened me and tried to spy at our house. Even if we did a police report they wouldn’t have done anything. He was crazy and knew he was going down. So everyone just cut ties. He was a psycho. Even with the amazing article there was way more stuff. Like my dad finding the 20 pounder and showing him where she was. The next day my dad was gonna go fish for her and he called making up an excuse saying he needs a favore then two hours later has the fish🤷♂️

I feel cheated after all these years of me looking up to this guy... I met him when I was 12yrs old and since then I would buy all the magazines he was in and I would get my Xmas money to buy swimbaits and try to catch giants here in San Diego ....
It’s almost like looking up to your fav fitness person and then buy all his products/ proteins and later find out he doesn’t even uses the products and he’s actually just on steroids SMH

I fished a lot of tournaments in San Diego at the same time Mike Long was there. And I can remember we used to wonder how does he always manage to fish by himself?
I remember reading a bassmaster magazine article like 20 years ago on how he caught a 20lb bass on Lake Shasta or somewhere like that.

Kinda really don't know what to say.......I fish with Mickey that is the owner of the 3.16 swimbait company here on lake fork and he said from the first time Mike Long weighed a fish people knew he was a list. You don't just go out and catch fish in the weight class this chump was claiming in a daily........I've been a fisherman my entire life and I will say with confidence that the 3 fish I've caught that are over 10lbs were completely luck........Guys like Mike Long give real fisherman a bad look

I was raised to really enjoy fishing. My grandfather Harvat showed me fishing on Armstrong's Spring Creek on the Yellowstone River in 1957, the 1st time. From that day to this day fishing, like hunting, has been a guide to nature for me. Both have always been a bit deceitfull by nature, among men competing. That fun is a sacred trust to be shared. Friendship and respect are gained through trust. That trust is based on truth. The data I've so far seen leads me to the conclusion that this respect, so sorely desired, was obtained by lying to all of us. If true, this dooms this man to a lifetime of distrust by all of us that try to excell, fall short, and look to others for informed guidance. I'd be harsh in my treatment of this kind of deciet. By the way, I still can't throw a bait caster rod either. Not that I haven't tried.

Mike Long was know as a cheater in bass tournaments back in 2000. Being a tournament fisherman in Southern California I fished a lot of tournaments and when fishing tournaments in San Diego lakes I would wait until the last minute to pay my entrance fees. I left 3 tournaments after seeing Mike Long show up by himself to fish the tournament. Would you like to guess who won those tournaments?

He used to work at this Company in San Diego cheated his way to be the superintendent the time he was my boss i learned what kind of person he was anybody defending him doesn’t have any idea how he really is…
take him(Mr Long) to court and make him go to every tournament he fished at where ever he went and bring him low in admittance to his folly to all young and old fishermen. this may help stop others doing what he did to the fishing community.
If this happened in the 90s the statue of limitations for any arrestable offenses is way past due. Even for armed robbery it's 25-30+ years ago.
