Wow, 😳I just now did the math 😹, I’ve dang been been raising kids for 40 yrs., (and as a single mom) I was gonna say y’all were pussies and then I got to thinking that you guys are probably the kind of men that I always wished I could find one of... 😹 Now I don’t even care about that though, I’ve just gotten back into my music after 28 years.....But I still have to think about my neighbors that live in my building. Really though, if I was doing things all my way I’d have to worry about the whole apartment complex 😹. Keep on playing, I guess not just too loud though 😹.

This is kit that will give a shit ton of mileage for a player. A thrasher at 18 could still be using it to heat up jazz licks when he's 80. And everything in between.

It definitely gives me that feeling of the Fabulous Disaster album tone by Exodus. Sounds like it has pretty good potential.
Interesting that you mention Exodus 'Fabulous Disaster' album, that is one of my all time fave albums for guitar tones. Any particular distortion setting in the video that reminds you of 'Fabulous Disaster'? Otherwise, overall I heard a few distortion settings in the video that I liked and sound good for chugs, sounds like the OD-200 is a neat piece of gear.

@@JuanHughJorgan Ah, yes, I hear exactly what you are talking about now, great to hear that the Boss OD-20 can nail tones like Exodus 'Fabulous Disaster' album, I'll have to look at getting one at some stage. As far as what Exodus set-up was those days, I believe it was 80's Marshalls boosted by Maxon OD pedals (actually re-branded Tube Screamers since Maxon manufactured the Ibanez ones too)

I picked one of these up the other day when my original intent was to get the MD-200, and have been loving this thing every day since. It can chug, but it can drive and do so much more once you start clicking and turning that Parameter knob. The MD-200 has to wait another couple of weeks.
I like how this video showed the full range of Metal tones possible from this pedal. I appreciate that.
My favorite aspect of Ola's videos? He's always in tune...!!!!! Seriously, too many dudes don't bother out there and it drives me crazy. Awesome job man, cheers!

The Metal Core is pretty good...… I own all of the Boss distortion/OD compact pedals...
A lot of awesome metal albums were recorded with Boss pedals, so don't rush to conclusions

@@vb__channel I think people are speaking from personal experience. Yes, good albums have definitely been made with Boss pedals and we don't mind, but there's a bunch of great albums with both shitty sounding gear and generally shit sound that still kicks ass. The two are not mutually exclusive, even if we have preferences.

That thing is amazing, does just about every type of distortion you would ever want for $250. Ola has reviewed other pedals that were as much as $400 that didn't do as much. It literally chugs ten different ways til Sunday.
I love ya man! You have the same sound taste that I have. 😸When I was in my 30s in college I had access to the recording studio whenever I wanted it because I volunteered as a studio assistant. So I was able to bring in different bands and musicians and Mic the instruments and vocalists up, record them on a 24 track analog tape and then mix it down on the console. I hate it when people put you down for the effects you give your opinion on that aren’t so great. You’re spot on dude, I don’t think they can hear what you can hear. You are a true professional when it comes to sound. You are also so humble to people that can be such critical smart asses. I watch you a lot because I’m in the market for good sound effects pedal that will CHUG on a low budget. You are my go to guitarist/sound man now. Thank you for sharing this on TH-cam. 💕

Ola is the only one to convince me yet that I would buy this just to try, if you want to just learn play and pacify yourself this and an amp is all you’d need for a long time if you’re just starting out
this pedal looks and sounds amazing. love the range of options with all the features i think i'd want in one. i'll keep my eye out for one or one like it some day
These distortions are all featured in the tone editor for the Boss Katana, so this is basically a Katana in a box, minus the effects.
Exactly right. Most if not all are also featured in the Boss GT series multi-FX units.
That pedal sounds amazing. Also the sm7+58 combo is a total winner. Good shit Ola!
glancing at the manual, it looks like any one of those options can be used as a boost into any other option. so it's like 2 of these things in one box. that's SO many sounds.
It took awhile but Boss's digital stuff no longer sucks. Old COSM models were garbage except maybe for reamping. Feel, or lack thereof, like the original POD.
Every time I watch your videos and you play a pedal that sounds really good, you cost me at least $300. I hope you can live with yourself!!!

Just got my first one, two weeks ago: the Trans Blood Red V. The thing is a beast; and, probably, will not buy any other brand, now. 🤘🏻
I've got one of the red S.1's and it definitely bleeds metal. Get one if you get the chance.
Solar a1.6c is literally perfection to me that's my dream guitar... I'm getting ready to buy my first guitar since ola has made me wanna start learning to play but I'll hopefully save up and get one one day lol
I was actually just checking the od-20, so I thought for a second this was the od-20 as well....
the od-20 even has a hm2 and a mt2 setting...
@@s1iznc1d34 the Waza had a switch to go back to the original circuit if youd like but tbh the Waza circuit sounds fantastic in front of an amp
@@s1iznc1d34 it's pretty spot on. Iirc it contains the exact same circuit.
Also, lots of people loved it. Marty Friedman famously used one for years and years, and At the Gates used one after an HM-2 for Slaughter of the Soul.

I enjoyed the video. I have one of these pedals. I play in a completely different style, but there are a ton of different sounds in this pedal, as you quickly discovered. I think this pedal is no joke.

1. Love the Testament shirt. I’ve been listening to them since the Practice What You Preach album back in the 80s.
2. You should have used the yellow solar with that pedal and went for some 80s metal tones lol
Dude.....I actually like what I'm hearing out of this pedal. I'm seriously about to invest in this one now. Been searching for the right pedal to get that warm brown sound.
What'll really blow your mind is that all of those distortion/overdrive settings are exactly the same distortion but each turn of the knob just sets the base EQ to different parameters.
It cannot write X letter, then it write H. So, that knob is actually correspond to the list of effects bellow. The 'Hdr (Hodor)' is actually Xdr (X-drive)
Is it not heavy distortion?
Today is truly a Happy Helloween. I woke up to this pedal waiting for me at my front door. Had set it so a signature was required but the fedex guy signed it himself. It was sitting there over an hour before i saw it was "delivered", so glad no one stole it. I can now retire my 20-ish year old rack fx unit. Haven't gotten the exact tone i have in my head so decided to watch this video for possibly the third or fifth time. Got some tetrising to do to find out where it likes to sit on my board. Sure hope i can get it where i want it.
Blues, sounded cool. Gotta try blues driver in place of tube screamer someday.
They are very different. TS cuts bass and treble, is very compressed and smooth and lets the clean signal through. Blues Driver lets (almost) all frequencies through and has a very rough and sharp distortion, and a LOT more distortion on tap. Also, it does not let the clean signal through. I much prefer the TS, for a boost anyway, I did not at all like blues driver except with the tone almost all the way down.
Do it. I like my Blues Driver as boost way more than a Tube Screamer. Or just a straight up OD. It's definitely fun

I’m with Ola in that you can get pretty decent lead-sounds out of it, also 🙂.
An aside: This particular Solar is the prettiest guitar you’ve used. Medium stained, dark hardware - all grown-up, but still rocks hard 😁!
I have big ol KRK studio monitors so I LOVE listening to Ola play guitar, trust me that heavy chugging isn't being loved by my neighbors either.

For a chug video, this was a long one however, I think Ola had fun tweaking this pedal. And I did enjoy listening to how this pedal sounds. I think I like having one some day.

Hey Ola. I just wanted to first say. Your a very unique guitarist. The Solar guitar is absolutely amazing, I am from the united states and have been playing guitar since the age of 5 years old. for the past 15 years I havn't been playing much because I went through a very hard time in life. My father passed away, then my mother, then sister. I delt with extreme depression since then. As of late I have really gotten back into the metal scene. My music ability is a little off though because I am handicap. I have something called Arthrogryposis. It mainly affects hands legs, feet tendins and so on. I've had 29 operations in my life time and am still rockin life the best I can. I have a question for you. H ave you ever heard of a prostar UFO electric guitar. It looks almost like a lightening bolt. It was the only guitar I could really play, palm mute strings and so on. The scaling of the neck was a bit odd as well. Fret spacing was a lot closer together there for I was able to play it perfectly with my wrist being fused unable to bend. I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do. You may not realize it man but your style, and you down to earth level headed way of going about your music. Has pulled me out of my own little hell. For that I truly thank you Ola. By the way. I have been trying to find that Prostar ufo guitar again now for 7 years and no one has ever heard of it.
I gotta say, I'm impressed. Boss brought the big boyz noize with this thing, a a whole damn lot of em too. For versatility it's a stand alone in the pedal world, there's nothing even close that I'm aware of, it'd take a full on modeler to offer more. Wish it had a semi-parametric eq you could toggle in and out, but it's easy enough to throw one in the chain. Pretty cool dirt box IMO...
Request: Ibanez TK999HT. The forums say it does Mesa Recto sounds, but everyone has the bass rolled off & mids cranked, making it sound more like a Butler Tube Driver, pretty much a Marshall tonality.
Seems slept on for a high voltage tube pedal.
Oh...and can you do some smiley face eq as a yardstick more often? Lots of us like that tone.

Hey Ola, I gave BOSS this dual drive config. They named it HYBRID. I was in January that I sent it. According to their sales, this might rush the GT 2000 with this and more. I still have 2 more inventions.
If Ola plays more than 10 seconds when he tests a gear, it means it sounds nice.
Boss calls the circuitry "Hybrid" so the signal passes through converters no matter what.Why didn't they make an analog signal path with digital control like the Elektron drive or the TC Nova drive?It's only got 4 memory locations so it's not like they needed much processing for the control.

Yo this pedal sounds friggin' sick for a modern rock distortion..not to mention what it would sound like on a record after mixing/mastering...I may just use that for my album in the near future...who knows...I might use the new Metal Zone mixed with the OD 200 :P Mind blown!

Ola is the living proof that your tone comes from your fingers. Everything he gets his hands on sounds metal. I always wanted my guitar tone to be like a mix of lemons and honey and that's what I got 🍯...
uhm, no... that's not what it means... if it was true, all the pros would be using the cheapest gear possible. Coz the tone comes from the fingers anyway.
What it means is that there are things which are in your control as a player, namely: how you pick and how fret. Articulation doesn't come from gear. But the articulation style is integral to a player's "sound".

If I was starting fresh, I would buy this. Good sounds, massively versatile, and Boss quality. Also the 200 series could be used to make a small incredibly powerful pedalboard. £220 each. Do it🌴
Really liked you adding some MotU riffs and leads to your usual chugging. Both refreshing and more refined. Don't get me wrong, I love the chugging, but your solo album is as tasty as my grand ma's cooking!
