The year is 1971 and I invited some friends over to my house for some poker and underage drinking. My cousin Steve (16yo) is the first one to pass out in my basement. After some time passed Riders on the Storm starts playing on the record player and Steve gets up off the floor and says "I gotta walk home in the storm?" He lived five doors down from my house. I miss the 60's and 70's !!!!!!!!!!!

I’m a 71 year old dewd that was in three garage bands around the neighborhoods and all played Doors covers, Windwood, Clapton, Animals, Zeppelin, …so much great music written by the artists not some Pop-top chart fakers. 50 years later still groovin. Play this at my funeral.

Saw the Doors in ate June 1967, a week or so after high School graduation. We were familiar we the album. But the live show was un-freakin'-believable. Little did I know that it was part of the lure that got me into music as a living. Still play out. The musicians were fantastic. Blues, Jazz and rock all in one song. Killer!

I will never forget seeing The Doors at Madison Square Garden. I had just been discharged from the army. They were preceded by The Chamber's Brothers who were a fantastic show in themselves. Then came Morrison and the band. They lighted up that Manhattan skyline like fire on the mountain.

Beautiful song. Jim Morrison was one of the best vocalists ever. His posters were pretty amazing too. My husband and I saw the film version of his life many years ago, and he most certainly had some strange visions and opinions. Didn't matter in the 70's and doesn't matter now. I still love the Doors and their music. I "loved him madly".

On the section that's "too long" the interplay between the electric organ and the guitar is superb. I've always been amazed with the definite atmosphere this song creates. The best time to hear this is when you're out driving at night in the rain and it unexpectedly comes on the radio. it's that feeling I love.Like being alone on a light aircraft, flying through a thunderstorm. Perfect isolation. (here behind my wall) lol

It reminds me of the good old days. Summer barbecues at the lake. Filled me with wonder and yearning to wander and be curious. At the same time, it filled my 'gut' with caution, a light sense of dread, a warning about trusting strangers. It brought visions of my future, gave me an awareness, a sneak-peek, a life-long yearning for my soulmate.
I almost feel the same when I hear it. This time it brings up the greatness of my childhood, and dread for the future.
    What a song!

Oh gosh I love this gem of a song! Jims voice and lyrics are deep a.f and the moody atmosphere created is so cruisy and perfect! the genius use of the real storm and rain sounds in the background were such a great idea and sound so effective and the sound is so ahead of it's time!
But to be honest, I mainly came for the treasure that is Ray Manzarek's input - such talent, his two hands playing both a bass line (Yep, The Doors didn't have/need a bass player) and that iconic, beautifully melodic solo always will BLOW MY MIND to pieces!!

Its not "actor out alone", which makes no sense at all!
It is actually "actor out on loan". This has meaning!
"An Actor out on loan” is a metaphor for powerlessness. It’s an old theater and movie term, dating back to the days of the studio system, when many contract actors had no control over their own careers, and studio officials could hire them out at a whim to other studios for parts that could be destructive of their own careers."

52 years ago, I was trying to call my Dad from a phone booth on Rt 128 north of Boston. It was dark outside, I was scared. It rang and rang and my Dad wasn’t home. I was so lonely. Lyrics fit perfectly. My brain was squirming like a toad…..song is spooky and chills one to the bone. Exactly how if felt. I can listen to it 52 years later and the same desperate emotions of being homesick still come up. I just married a man I didn’t love, he took me out to a God forsaken area and wanted to go back to Chicago where I felt safe! But no one answered….today would have been 52 years of marriage but by the grace of God, he divorced me!! Free at last to live!! A therapeutic song for me….cathartic. Thank you Jim Morrison

This is a classic rock song, amazing, beautiful song. Than if you read the description, "If you like dubstep, check this out." I'm not making fun of the guy, but seriously, they're two completely different genres.
