    He was unconscious for an extended period, and spent a year in hospital due to shell fragments which penetrated his skull - _and brain!_ There are many recorded cases of an individual's personality and behaviour undergoing a drastic transformation following severe brain injury. Impulse control seems to be particularly affected in such people.

Well, Life is what it is, right? Are you close with any of your siblings? Did you meet all of them? Did you grow up knowing any of them?
      Sorry to pry. I'm just really curious how it would have been. I hope you're doing well these days.

      @@kari7403 Unfortunately I just knew I had half-siblings after my dad passed away and all of his wives / children were fighting for his inherintance (he's crazy rich, but barely sent any money to my mom, we lived in poverty until my sis and I graduated then got a job). I'm not close to any of them, I live countries away anyway.
      I didn't care much about his money, I still don't, even today the wives still quarelling about who's got the rights to sell his main house. My sister and I did inherit one of Dad's houses, but later seized by a bank because he had a big debt there. 🤷‍♀️
      I won't be surprised if there will be a murder between my "half-family" though, money make people do crazy things, as many times told by BriefCase.

When I was 3 years old she left and took my sister and I with her. We were poor too but at least we had a good role model to show us the right way to go through life. Please, continue sharing your opinion. I accept that there can often be misunderstandings in such situation but they're not the end of the world. So long as we are mindful of what we say, and we try to not be aggressive for the sake of showing off, it will always be okay. I always hope that honesty and love can make things a whole lot better. Certainly the aggression and greed hasn't really helped us so far. I hope you and yours stay well and "hugs" to you as well.

      @@ccbell1387 I hope you can get closure someday. I think genetic genealogy could help in getting closure. By tracing the genetic history of a family back, we can find the identity of the person who left either DNA behind in some form or else was found as a Doe. If this guy is indeed your missing great grandpa then genetic genealogy can confirm it. I would contact DNA Doe about this case. If the government decides to extract a genetic sample then by comparing alleles from your great-grandpa’s descendants to the alleles of the John Doe they can determine his identity.

      I've heard stories of children young adults who were "normal" until they hit/were hit In the head quite severely. Then they end up as psychopaths or sociopaths...there was even one man who got beat up by some guys outside of some bar. The victim was never the same again and the incident somehow rewired his brain into a genius. It's quite strange....

    Bedford is my home town. As a child, my dentist's practice in Adelaide Square (ie the building itself) was attached to the outside wall of Bedford prison facing onto Bromham Rd. The dentist was deaf as a post & always shouted, thus scared the b'jesus out of a 5yr old me... add that to the perception of the murderers on the other side of the wall have given me lifelong avoidance of dentists! Although I am sure at the age of 50, dentists aren't all bad! 😎

      I've noticed that a lot of British World War soldiers were very hesitant to kill their German adversaries. In his youth, Hitler literally used puppy dog eyes on a British soldier who had him at gunpoint, and the Brit couldn't bring himself to shoot him. I think this is largely because Germany's leadership openly espoused British imperial values, and thought themselves better colonialists than the British. So on a gut level, I think a lot of Brits deferred to them.

    Rouse's injury while on active duty was sad to listen to. Servicemen in the Great War were considered as cannon fodder, commodified for exploitation.
    His rehab, adjustment to life with disability and the judgements about his being disabled or not, and his worthiness to receive some financial support (pension) was very interesting. It resonates with us today.
    It raises some questions about his impulsiveness and self-control. Was this noticeably changed after his injury?
    He obviously had the genetic predisposition to Narcissism, and his brain was hardwired for that; environmental factors can change gene expression (epigenetics).
    I'm reminded of King Henry 8th of England, who displayed Narcissistic qualities prior to his fall and head injury while jousting. His head injury was the pivotal point after which his controlling behaviour became tyrannical, antagonistic and capricious. It occurred just before he turned against his Queen, Anne Boleyn, and his quick marriage to Jane Seymour.
    Psychotherapist and author Christine Louis de Canonville (narcbehavior.net) talks about her brother who was a psychopath. She describes how as a little tot he fell and hit his head face first, and we've wondered about the impact of this on his brain hardwiring, seeing that their parents were a loving couple and good, supportive parents.

    People are being quite outspoken about what a creep he is but head injuries can lead to severe personality changes as well as physical disabilities. Frontal lobe bamage is very common in many traumatic brain injuries and this could explain his behaviour. The frontal lobe is the seat of the personality and it acts as a break to our impulses, if it gets damaged disinhibition is very often the result. I don't offer this in defence but perhaps in mitigation.

    • @MarianneKat
      @MarianneKat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree it happens but it's not a defense.

    • @larry-naylor
      @larry-naylor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarianneKat Absolutely not especially now when we know the brain can rewire its self but I believe it can be a mitigating factor because it shows the behaviour is not a choice. I'm autistic and I liken abnormal reactions in brain damaged patients to autistic meltdowns, it's not a choice it's the way the brain reacts to certain stimuli. It doesn't mean we can't learn techniques to mitigate the worst of a meltdown but it does require a certain amount of leniency when it happens because it's not a choice.

    Head injuries during War are serious medical issues-and WW1 hospitals full of magnificent men from across the Commonwealth and beyond, are photos of nightmare proportions-such is the Pity of War. That this man was denied his Veterans Benefit having shrapnel still in the system, is disgustingly unjust. But, he became what he became, and must have had reasonable cognitive abilities to work, and work well. Its not unusual in War, for a Veteran to vanish, to never claim Pensions or Assistance, instead just want to vanish, hoping to forget the memories-I hope this Unknown Man was not a Decorated WW1 Veteran, as many did just vanish..... RIP Unknown Man.
