I can only imagine these guys' neighbors having guests over and then there's some kind of explosion and the neighbors are like oh yeah that just happens.
@John Wyn Francisco Similar sort of thing used to happen with British comedian Michael Bentine. He used to create his own fireworks, so his neighbours all went away for a few days around Guy Fawkes' Night for their own safety! On one occasion he developed a 'two stage' firework rocket - two rockets fastened one on top of the other, with the idea that the explosion of the first rocket would ignite the fuse of the second one and send it up even further. Unfortunately what he forgot was that rockets turn upside down just before they explode - so the second rocket was fired downwards and buried itself in the roof of the thatched cottage next door. He called the fire brigade and the operator said "No need to give the address - we've been enough times before!"
Imagine the neighbors have guests over, and the guests get impaled by chunks of record flying at mach 2.6. "Honey, the SlowMo guys killed the Millers." "Ok, I'll bury them next to the other other SlowMo casualties."
Imagine finally convincing yourself to sell your old records on Goodwill knowing that the next owner will enjoy them just as much as you once did, then finding out they just got exploded in some guy’s backyard.
These are all odies comps so it's more likely the owner is dead and these came from whoever had to clean up after them dumping their stuff there instead of the garbage

So when I was training to be an aircraft mechanic and was learning about the physical forces that affect propellers, I learned that they're basically constantly trying to bend forward from the thrust, twist themselves straight from the pitch, stretch from the centrifugal force as well as bending sideways due to the rotation. Now that sounds impressive coming from a textbook, but I've always wondered what it looks like in slow motion ever since I read it. And from what I can find having a curious mind, nobody has done it with equipment as advanced as what you guys use here. It would be awesome to see this happen at an insanely high frame rate, anyone else think so?

They didn't do much this high-speed in the super slow show because most of the stuff they were recording didn't need it. They had an insane production quality, so IMO it makes sense that they recorded as much as possible in 4K, rather than in unnecessarily high framerates.
This puts a whole new spin on using records. Good thing they got around to the experiment. The record had a shattering experience. It was beside itself and needs to pull itself together. It was falling apart and the situation was up in the air.

The first record in the video and the only one I was able to make out was Side A of a Crown Records various artists compilation from 1959 called “12 Top Hits”. The track list for Side A is: 1. “Stagger Lee” 2. “16 Candles” 3. “My Happiness” 4. “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” 5. “Goodbye Baby” 6. “All Of A Sudden (My Heart Sings)” Side B (label not pictured in the video) 1. “All American Boy” 2. “With The Wind And The Rain In Your Hair” 3. “Drummer Boy” 4. “Chipmunk Song” 5. “One Night” 6. “Children’s Marching Song” Wondering what records they were was the first thing that I thought of when they began the video. Anyone else a Vinyl Nut?! 😜 Who else will be looking these songs up now?! Cool experiment! Enjoyed watching! Thanks guys! 👍
Well it shattered at about 12500 frames per seconds and took about 4 seconds to do a full turn. If 1 second in 12500 fps is equal to around 40 seconds, I multiplied it by 4, then 60 for a full minute. Unless my math is wrong, it should have been spinning at about 9600 rpm when it shattered the first time.
In the last round before it shattered I counted 81 frames (rougly 3:25 - 3:28, as a marker I used the letter C hitting the shadow). 12,500 fps / 81 frames per revolution = 154.3 rps. Multiplied by 60 that's 9259 rpm.
Taking this further. The radius of a record is about 0.15 m, and the time it takes to complete a revolution at it's max speed there is about 0.00625 seconds. From this we can calculate the speed of the edge of the record to be about 150 m/s 😳
This reminds me of when Diablo 2 blew up in my CD-Rom late one night grinding Baal. It sent shrapnel almost through the CD-Rom, bent parts of it open like a bullet.

The Variac, also made famous for dialing in Eddie Van Halen's amps.
There is no way you can enter this garden barefoot
Dominic Thoma Yes you could. All you would have to do is take off your shoes and socks and then walk into the garden. Easy.
John Tilton
not until you step on something sharp left over from a previous project
Francisco you could still do it. You'd just be in pain
Xavier Obezo Lol true
2:16 R.I.P. birds up above.
Had to be edited out to be compliant with no animal cruelty. ;)
They waited until the last one to put a board on top lol. There's probably pieces in the neighbor's yard now too lol.
huyked Why use Dragonrend when you can just spin a record extremely fast ?
huyked yup my ears hurt no
huyked lol
12:25 🤯
Tf... That was seriously trippy.💫
I felt like I was being hypnotized
Me too
Same
Awesomeness !🤪
The sound of the warping is incredibly satisfying
The first record in the video and the only one I was able to make out was Side A of a Crown Records various artists compilation from 1959 called “12 Top Hits”. The track list for Side A is:
1. “Stagger Lee”
2. “16 Candles”
3. “My Happiness”
4. “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”
5. “Goodbye Baby”
6. “All Of A Sudden (My Heart Sings)”
Side B (label not pictured in the video)
1. “All American Boy”
2. “With The Wind And The Rain In Your Hair”
3. “Drummer Boy”
4. “Chipmunk Song”
5. “One Night”
6. “Children’s Marching Song”
Wondering what records they were was the first thing that I thought of when they began the video. Anyone else a Vinyl Nut?! 😜
Who else will be looking these songs up now?!
Cool experiment! Enjoyed watching! Thanks guys! 👍
Maverick Cadaverick wow *bye baby* like the record went bye
i guess you can say it has the speed of “sound”
LOOOOL
Shut up

These vids are so much better than the Slow Mo Show. Less is definitely more.
Any ideas about the rpm threshold, the point at which the vinyl finally yields? Any tachometer measurements taken?
For real
From this we can calculate the speed of the edge of the record to be about 150 m/s 😳
i get what you're saying *i do not *
This reminds me of when Diablo 2 blew up in my CD-Rom late one night grinding Baal. It sent shrapnel almost through the CD-Rom, bent parts of it open like a bullet.

I love that game!

Woa! And I thought that I'm only one! My Diablo 2 blew up too!
Happened to me too
How often do your neighbors request that you vacuum miscellaneous, sharp objects from their garden; or do you have to periodically bribe them?
Probably people six houses away that don't realize who you are thinking . .. . Why the heck do I have shards of plastic in my roses?
12:25 editing at its best.
When you go to sleep drunk af

Totally agree!

This has to be one of the best banter videos from these two.
Very nice touch rotating the frame of the video to match the speed of the record, I thoroughly enjoyed that.
Joxus Art I was actually going to ask someone about that. Do you know how to do that? I prefer fcp or premiere pro for editing and that effect seems a bit catchy
Just eyeball the rotation speed, no need for motion capture
Max Zamora I'm still a starter. Mind explaining a bit more about how it's done?
I thoroughly found it disorienting. Probably doesn't help that my pupils are still dilated from an eye exam.
*I’m glad TH-cam has a record of this* 😁😂

Box office records were *shattered* that week.
Spun at record breaking speeds...
The only time “breaking records” has 2 meanings
Lag Evolved it really is a record breaking video
A third meaning... If you spin it backwards, you'll hear "Paul is dead, miss him, miss him."
Actually with the way the English language makes such a mess of words , like words that mean 2-3 completely different thing although are spelt identical 🤦🏻 "Paint the -RECORD- while you -RECORD-your attempt at a world -RECORD- I think I said that correctly?
JT FPV you wouldn’t mess those up in context though. You wouldn’t hear someone say “I’m going to listen to this record” and assume they mean the verb.
This is why the 3,333,333 1/3 rpm record never took hold.
9:47 NOW THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE
Lets see if its gonna leak
Yeah it leaks
I would seal it with flex seal all you have to do is spray a nice and event coating and once it dry let it dry and once it dry let it dry and once it dry let it dry 😂😂😂
Bet some flex seal could fix it
Use the new Flex Paste.
It can be used on any kind of surface.
Your neighbors must love the challenge of dodging flying glass and record shrapnel......😂
“How much it varies in wibblement” 😂😂😂😂
I miss Dan on the show. I hope less restrictions will soon allow the duo to be complete again.
