18.57 - Josh showing the exact value of a Rhystic Study there - willing to spend two treasures and 3 life to blow it up as early as possible even though those treasures could have rocketed him ahead next turn. This is absolutely how you are supposed to play against Rhystic.
Well, maybe this had cost him the game. But in all fairness, I blame mostly the bounty cards for the win. These are not as random as planechasecards but close.
@@Aaackermann I don't think it was the spending too much resources at the time that got Josh but rather his continious feud with Jimmy that distracted them both from real threats. By the time they thought about calling truce it was too late. As for bounties yeah, they are pretty much reverse Planechase worlds, giving universal reward but some decks just naturally complete them better and it snowballs fast. Also with planes others can sort of interract by rolling the die, where the only way you interract with bounties is by interacting with the player.
Was going to comment this too. Ashlen would have targeted the war leaders call and parallel lives and then Talia would have made all the tokens in response. So Josh would have died anyway. The only thing that changes is that Josh wouldn’t have been around to have anything targeted with unexplained absence. But that doesn’t affect anything. Edit: the war leaders call would be gone before the unexplained absence in the above instance, so that would also be 1 less damage to everyone as it would not be around to trigger off the cloak. They also didn’t do the Glisa triggers at 1:15:48. She could have removed six counters from ledger shredder causing it to not trade with her ninja.
I get the impression they saved money on the ads to give us more and better card animations, and i am so so grateful! that transition from the avenger to keeper of fables was awesome, as well as the infernal grasp on etali, not to mention the obeka animation!! what an epic and fun episode. thanks and keep it up - obeka style!

In even the few short years I've been watching this channel, the production value has gone through the roof. I'm always so impressed by the sets, editing, and most importantly, committal to the bit that you guys put out. Even though my collection of cards and playing of mtg has taken a long pause due to grad school, I still pull up your new set vids and extra turns every so often to put on. Keep up the good work!

Not really. Jimmy is notorious for getting salty in the history of this channel. It’s all jokes, but out of the CZ crew, Josh gets the least salty since he’s all about efficiency and making the right play whereas Jimmy plays on momentum and takes huge gambles.

As always, major props to the editing and effects in this episode! I loved the cutaway to random animals and clips, and the effects for the cards (especially Infernal Grasp, that shi- was AMAZING!) were superb! Love it, guys! And on a different note, I was surprised at how fun WotC was able to make the set (at least, how it seems to be so far.) When they announced a cowboys/western themed set some time back, I _really_ expected a lot less from them. Way to give us another pretty cool set in recent times!🤙
This expansion was fine, but my issue is that this was 100th expansion and should have been made a bigger deal by WoTC. Reaching the miilestone of 100 feels like it should have been noteworthy. right?

I am not even saying that the expansion was not a fine choice for the 100th, my core issue was that WoTC could have made the celebration of reaching 100 a bit bigger, there was nothing special about the level of promotion for this than for any thing recently. I had to even double check that it was the 100th expansion since I don't think Wizards even advertised it. Arguably the hype was lower than for some of the recent ones, like the cross over ones, (ie Warhammer and Lord of the Rings) felt like a bigger deals.
I hate to be the downer to such a fun episode, but this game summed up what I have started hating about commander; everyone just playing the same cards over and over. Multiple copies of Toxic Deluge, Jeska's Will, Otawara; the format used to be about fun cards, now it's just the same as any other format. I had hoped for a "Thunder Junction" episode, I'd see more Thunder Junction cards, I just saw boring staple after boring staple. In an effort to make things more efficient, Command Zone is just breeding homogeny.
But the fact that Commander limits people to having only one of each card in their deck reduces the chances of you seeing the same card again and again. The only way to enforce what you want would be to limit the deck build so that only one deck can have any card, which would force the other decks to get different cards. Every format is eventually going to focus on the best cards unless you limit it somehow.
literally only 1 spree card played the entire game, no one playing Desert tribal, and multiple pairs of staples (2x toxic deluge, 2x jeskas). I don't feel like I really got a sense of the set from this episode.
Glissa should have triggered before Dazzling Sphinx due to first strike. This would have gotten rid of the war leaders call earlier, Vess may have still done what she did in response, but they should have caught this.
Guys amazing video! Unfortunately there were 2 mistakes with sequencing. At 01:03:05 , because Glissa has first strike, her triggers must resolve first. But Ash resolve them as last (at 01:07:54). It happens again at 01:16:00
