  • In bonsai, we all love dramatic deadwood, especially on our junipers. In this video I show you how I turn a branch into a realistic jin toa dd drama to the composition.

    My other comment has disappeared, possibly because I put a link in it about Juniper die back that I found on the internet. Anyway, in summary it said that 'Juniper Twig or Tip Blight' is caused by a fungal infection or Spider mites and the diseased branch should be cut back into fresh wood as far as you can. Bad fungal infections can be treated with a copper spray and spider mites with the standard bug spray. Hope this helps. Nice looking deadwood you've created though and I really like this tree. 👍👍

      Thank you very much for this information Guy! I will treat it asap and hopefully, I don't lose any more branches. Really appreciate you taking the time, and I suspect you are right about the comment being deleted. It was nothing to do with me.

    Hi Tony, just want to thank you, I’ve been in hospital a lot lately and all that time have had your videos to watch making life on a hospital bed a lot more bearable, I watched the video where you went to the garden centre on the dual carageway which was really enjoyable because I live at Tarleton so it just felt so real 😂

      Thanks for that Jason my experience was very similar a couple of years ago. I would binge watch full channels while in hospital and it really helped to pass the time especially because I was on a ward isolated because of covid for over 4 weeks.
      I'm really happy to have been able to help you out even if only in a small way.
      I hope you're doing well and feeling better soon my friend

    I believe that with junipers there is a more direct correlation and relationship between the branches and the roots, and it may well be that the roots feeding that particular branch had some issue.
    Anyway, turned out nice again 😆

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I was thinking that Jason. I didn't really do any work to the roots beyond a very basic scrape of the surface, but perhaps even that minimal work was enough to annoy it.

    Awesome stuff Tony! I do admire your ability to jump into something and try it out without previous experience. I think this is going to be a really fabulous tree in your collection with a decent price tag too!

      @@TonysBonsai Hi Tony carving is an art form I tried for the first time after 30 odd years done plenty of jins etc serious carving you need the right tools , my son bought me some basic ones at Christmas so had a go on my really large blackthorn and quite happy with it much better than a chop stub I think. Sounds fun Joe. I've got loads of huge hawthorns to tackle at some point, so I think I'll serve my time on those when I but a die grinder.

    To me it looks like the juniper is long overdue a prune and tree has sacrificed the lower branches in favour of the upper ones. Maybe it was necessary to at least clean out the tree a bit earlier in the year to avoid this. Good video thanks :)

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Toby, you make a very good point. I did actually clean out the tree when I first got it a few weeks before filming this video. When I got it all the branches were very healthy and doing great, but in those few weeks a couple of the branches just died off. When I remove the wire and apply the lime sulphur in a couple of weeks time, I will also prune the tree back a bit.

    Not having enough anchor is why you cant bend that Jin. I find it better to have too much anchor than not having enough length.

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true! You must be a psychic. After filming the video I went back and re-wound the wire a bit lower down, but mum's the word!

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it look good I think. In 2-3 weeks I will remove the wire and apply the lime sulphur.

  • @scotthogbin613

    Nice Jin Tony and it seems you beat everyone to the finish line, have you concidered removing and jining the entire left side one day? The trunk movement to the right looks really nice and the foliage on left draws my eye away from that trunk line. Seriously pro job on that jin, it will look great when it dries out mate. Thanks for another great video. I'll give it 2 loafs mate🍞🍞

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤣🤣Two loaves. That's my best yet, so I'll take that! With me kind of going to town on those two branches I didn't even really consider the future design of the tree to be honest Scott. Anything is possible, and I'll certainly weigh up your suggestion next time I decide to start ripping it to pieces again! I'll definitely do a quick follow-up in a couple of weeks when the jin is dry and I can treat it with lime sulphur.
