The new edition is absolutely the best looking and best-playing version of the game, no question about it. What a treat to have Ra back in print in such a beautiful form!
The clarity of the things you're bidding on is an enormous plus for the latest version. I have two secondhand versions of RA. The first was incomplete. The second a better version, with wooden pieces for what you're bidding with. But this new version seems best. So I jumped on it as soon I heard of it.
For me, this is my favorite type of campaign to back -- an established and venerated game with awesome new components. This is especially true since I've only been playing hobby games for like 6 years or so, so there are a lot I missed out during the heyday. That's why I've backed La Granja Deluxe, Suburbia CE, and GAH Deluxe, and I absolutely plan on backing the Awaken Realms version of Castles of Burgundy
Thanks so much for doing this comparison! I have the Uberplay edition and I’ve been reviewing the 25th Century edition. This made it easy to understand the differences. I made/printed player boards for my edition. I love that the new edition has them.
About the boat in the 25th Century edition. The board is actually double sided so if you don't want to use the boat but instead place the ra tiles on the top track like in the old versions you can flip the board over and the other side of the board works the same way as the older versions.
@@lystic9392 Yeah I actually slightly prefer the art on my Asmodee version, but the rest of the stuff is such an improvement that I will be trading mine and getting this new one. They just did a great job on it.
I would certainly feel like buying the one to the right, which has the most matured picture on the box to me. The one on the left looks more like a kids game from the outside. I do agree tho that the tiles look clearer when you look at them though. But I continue to like the Asmodee one also because they almost look like real pictures of real hieroglyphs and images of egyptian deities.
The sun tiles and personal boards make this a must even though I prefer the art from the asmodee version. The 25th century version has the old style board on its reverse. Thats pretty important.
I backed the deluxe version on Gamefound, and I think I like the 25th Century artwork because of the ease of conveyance. I'm planning on teaching this game to people who are not very deep into the hobby, and I can picture the other versions causing a lot of confusion and frustration because of how similar everything looks. 25th did an amazing job with the new package.
Would the Ra tiles fit in the space where the boat is now? Meaning, is it possible to still play "the old way" (placing the Ra tiles on the track instead of moving the boat)?
Think it’s identical to the oldest version here, except the bidding tokens look better, being wooden finish instead of painted yellow. To me, the latest version looks less thematically ‘Egyptian’, but I do like the personal play boards & the tiles are functionally clearer.
Ian O'Toole's one as always ;) + You said that you prefer counting by Ra tiles. The new version give you this option also :D You can use boat counter or just placing Ra tiles :D
So about the artwork.. the one on the left looks like a child with some skill did it, the new version looks like computer generated graphics in a really muddane way and the middle one was made buy a professional. Plain and simple!
You really seem to have a major whinge going about the MUCH more accurate artwork of the Asmodee version. If theme and immersion matter, that new version is a fail in that regard.

i believe so. We had to mail on our prototype to another reviewer so I can't check.
You can flip the center board over to use the original tile placement instead of the new boat tracker version. This way folks have a choice.
