- At the inaugural Sonic Expo in Dallas, TX, I was honored to have an interview with the iconic Jason Griffith, voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog, to talk about favorite fan moments, Sega CD memories, and of course, his time as the voices of Sonic the Hedgehog & Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic X, the games, and more!

I always found Jason's version of Sonic to be the most inspirational out of all the voice actors. The way Sonic spoke with other characters, you can tell that he really cared about his friends. He was gentle but also upbeat. He told Elise to smile to calm her fears; he listened and understood Chris's abandonment issues; and he reassured Chip that he'd eventually get his memory back. He was a good friend to everyone, and Jason's interpretation of the character helped show off this side of Sonic. It made him even more heroic than he already was.
Totally, I feel he is the most well-rounded Sonic voice for sure.
In my opinion Jason Griffith is the best Sonic voice actor.

Jason was one of the best actors to voice sonic and shadow I hope one day he will voice them again
It honestly made me sad to hear that Jason felt that he didnt think his contributions meant anything toward Sonic since his time as the character ended for him abruptly....nonetheless him not even going to any conventions for over a decade....
If only he knew how many of us want him back as Sonic to THIS VERY DAY....even with the recent VAs additions where the movie and Sonic Prime are concerned.
Jason didn't just voice Sonic, he WAS Sonic.
You're appreciated and loved by a significant number of us, Jason. Please come back quickly....

Jason did an excellent job for sure. Though I don’t want to devalue any of the other voices of Sonic too cause they’ve all done a great job too and brought their own unique feel to the character.
I agree it would be really cool if Jason voiced shadow in sonic movie 3 but I doubt that’ll happen i think Keanu reeves is gonna nail it for shadow
I love Jason Griffith and Ryan Drummond also Jaleel White too

@@morgymodernsonicfan8547 The appeal of Jason Griffith is that he's the Johnny Young Bosch of New York. His voice is youth-full and funny for a similar reason as Bosch.

@@GtotheNextLevel there's one thing about Sonic's personality very few Sonic fans talk about: the moments when he's soft-spoken and tranquil, especially when he soaks up nature. They only seem to notice the cool rebellious side of him mostly... Is it really so wrong to have prominent parts of a character's personality overshadow what people seem to overlook?
I totally get that. I feel the IDW comic really shows that softer more layered side of him more. One reason why it’s so underrated.
Brilliant interview Jason Griffiths is my favorite voice actor for both Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog as well as Usagi in TMNT 2003 and Cilan in Pokémon and I would love to meet him in person someday also loved the bit when Pete Capella the voice of Silver the Hedgehog jumped in near the end thanks for sharing this 👍💙🤍🦔

Wishful thinking, but I really hope Jason Griffith is cast as Shadow in the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie. He nailed him back in the day and I'd love to see him get another go as the Ultimate Life-form on the big screen
That would be awesome. Honestly, if not him, who would they cast? I honestly can't really think of a "Hollywood" actor to play him.

Jason is definitely not my favorite Sonic or Shadow, but I still respect him, and he did a lot of good and was Sonic for a lot of people. But he was amazing as Jet.
I do love his performance as Jet. Shame that I didn’t think to ask him about that!
This interview was great! I like on his recording tape talk and as a fan of voice acting, it really inspired me. See the Hyatt Regency in Dallas makes me thinks of Frightmare used to be there but glad the convention went great!

I always thought he was the perfect middle voice for Sonic. The perfect choice to come after Ryan and before Roger.
I agree, the level of character that Jason brought to Sonic really was second to none.
I've already got the complete series of Sonic X on Blu- ray this year so I can enjoy watching the episodes .
I might need to get a second copy now since the actors signed this one and I’m gonna preserve it!

That's gonna be awesome, can't wait for it! And also, Silver is so, SO UNDERRATED, and I think it was a very big missed opportunity to not even include him in the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. Like, EVERYONE ELSE WAS THERE- (except Cream and Charmy) why couldn't they have just threw him in? 🥲

@@GtotheNextLevel Sonic boom in the new Sonic the hedgehog games every last one of the cast members from Sonic x was dropped except for Mike Pollock they kept him around and he voiced Doctor eggman for a solid 15 years

The first episode of sonic x i thought everyone did fine, I'm old enough to recall all the drama people haaated the 4kids dub but when you get older you tend to learn that there's not just the voice actor, there's the writing, and the directing thats also involved, the editing and mixing, what takes did they go for, etc. and then you have the voice actors get better with more experience or voice acting classes and eventually in time get more comfortable into the role and evolve, like Sean schemmel as Goku (seriosuly listen to the ginyu and frieza saga then listen to how is in the buu saga original funimation dub its night and day). I honestly think Jason did his best with Shadow and i think thats also thanks to him being in the 2005 game where he grew with him.
Eh i didn't really follow any of the drama, i just enjoyed the show for what it was.

I wish they kept him, I really don’t like Roger’s portrayal at all, I’m a Dreamcast and classic era fan so Ryan and Jason will always be Sonic to me

I disagree on 2d sonic games making a comeback for the fact that it doesn’t make an impact compared to the originals . Just play the Og sonic games and stick to more sonic adventure style or sonic unleashed styles. I can’t wait till the day when it happens
There's a reason why 2D Sonic games are still around; it's cause some fans prefer it and some (like me) play both. And not making an impact? Sonic Mania says otherwise. There's room for both 2D and 3D Sonic. Just cause you are not into 2D doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.
