I wish they kept the LN version of the massacre the same, I feel like they just went halfway with the dark theme of the arc and suddenly decided that it’s too dark. I personally think it would have been better if they went all the way because hakuro (idk if I spelled it right) said “your deaths will not be painless” but then they were painless… idk would have loved to see some limbs flying
In the LN its a lot more darker. Rimuru didn't saw them as a sacrifice needed to revive his friends, but as mere food for him to get revenge. He even toyed with the 20k+ soldiers hitting them in non lethal points to corrode them from inside while they struggled and felt the pain in accelerated time.
Tbh the megiddo moment was more terrifying in the manga ch 70.5 they did some backstory on one of the soldier just to kill him off while begging Rimuru to spare his family for they did nothing wrong, the thing is even tho his family safe in Falmuth he know that Godlike being that they angered capable to destroying their whole country if he want to, I wish they add it to the anime for that chapter just show off how terrifying Rimuru is in the eye of the human kingdom.

He uses the water droplets to create a bunch of lenses that magnify and redirect the sun’s energy to pierce their heads in one hit. He only needs the tiny amount of magic needed to create the water droplets, so it’s a super mana-efficient way of slaughtering that also works inside the anti magic area Edit: only weakness is that the sun has to be out so if the enemy learns the technique they’ll just attack at night. That’s one reason why he cant let a single one escape
Kyoya's time acceleration "allowed" him to live for some time after his head was cut off that's why Hakuro was talking to the head. Rimuru's droplets concentrate sunlight just like a kid burning ants with a magnifying glass on a sunny day.

I have a big problem with the Meggido scene though. It was supposed to be a brutal slaughter of 10000 people and they really had to put this music on top of it. Really unfitting
She: this is so dark Me who knows there's a soldier down there just doing his job crying over not being able to see his children again and afraid for their lives after loosing his wife as seen in the manga and the fact not all shots were headshots and people survived the first one: yup, dark
The reason why this set of episodes is particularly intense is that Rimuru has just committed himself not just to murder, but slaughter. His pure soul is now tainted with grief, rage and the blood of literally thousands of people he would rather have befriended prior. All bets are off. And that is why we are horrified.
For some reason, I like Souei's scene the most, it was so brutal that it was off-screen 😅 Hakurou's was also brutal, but there's something about Souei's being off-screen and a splash of blood.
Rimuru is one of my favourite main characters in compare to other main characters, it's so beautiful seeing a person that makes you believe in Humanity again. In my opinion at least ^^
its worth noting that this final scene was MUCH darker in the light novel. He doesnt just kill them instantly like he does in the anime, he makes them suffer.
The craziest part of this is that the anime toned it down. :D The manga added the soldier part and the LN told us the more graphic things Geld did during the Shogo beatdown. The only thing that wasn't conveyed as well as I'd hoped in the anime was Rimuru's rage. The LN broke down his emotions, extended them and made me seethe with anger wanting to see Rimuru exact his revenge. Not to mention they made you hate the Falmuth aristocrisy and the King's greed before Rimuru's Meggido spell. PS. Meggido is a physical magic spell that is not interupted by the anti-magic area. Those droplets were in fact water droplets or more accurately water elementals summoned by Rimuru and the mechanics behind the magic is the larger water elementals took in the Suns light and its convex shape concentrated the light to heat it up to thousands of degrees and thanks to the calculations by the great sage could be aimed towards the smaller water elementals further condensing this heat ray and finally hitting its designated target. An attack that is literally hitting you at the speed of light. Pretty useful for killing.
In the light novel it says they killed most of the children and geld (the orc in armor) was very close to the children, so that’s him getting some sweet revenge too bad he couldn’t deliver even more before being interrupted.
14:00 here's a thought for you, he says that his perception is sped up 300 times before this and if we assume that his consciousness lasts for around 6 seconds which would be a reasonable assumption for a real person that 300 times perception would leave him experiencing it as 1800 seconds or 30 minutes. And that's if we assume his fantasy world abilities didn't make his consciousness last longer than a real humans would be expected to.
ya the meggido thing is insane my understanding of it is basically hes creating water droplets all over the camp and refracting the suns light and somehow powering up the suns light into tiny sun beams that are instantly sniping people its bonkers

As Rimuru said, He's a monster at heart now. He doesn't had second thoughts about killing as long as it's for family. Of course he Still doesn't want it to always end up to just killing. But if push comes to shove, he won't hesitate to go to the darkest route.
as a fun little fact, he was a head for about 30-60 minutes for him because of the accelerated time ability, also they cut my favourite bit from the manga, where geld just pulled a new shield out of dimensional storage after he smashed it.

In the Monga, the only reason why it's darker because the character is shot in the legs. A couple of times in arm shoulders heads. And then, after renew room takes out a few of them. He goes down and talks to one of the guards picks up a 1 of the trinkets of the guards that have it. He looks at it and it was a picture of his kids. And he just kills the dude
Honestly in the manga there a part where they give one of soldier pov and how dark it is specifically when him have to plea to rimuru to spare his children and don't attack their capital, dang that just hurt to see specially when the kid's mother already pass away and now the dad too.
In that kingdom’s perspective it wasn’t entirely unprovoked tempest kingdom was setting itself up to be a massive trading hub which is what that kingdom was they were already loosing power and wanted to take out tempest aka the competition while they still could not knowing that it was to late. Also that last attack wasn’t slimes sniping everyone he was turning water particles into a lens to turn sunlight into a laser they go more in depth on that attack in the book
A lot of people didn't catch it, but if you watched Slime Diaries, you'll know (and this is canon) that Geld is actually very fond of the kids and for them, he is like their Fun Uncle. They even go with him while he's working and he makes sure to escort all of them home before sundown. A lot of those kids died during the Falmuth Attack so Geld is really enraged, that's why he went all ham on that Otherworlder. If Hakuro didn't stop him, he probably kept going.
