      I started to do something like zero weight (or body weight) deadlifts, just bending over from the hip to touch my toes and getting up straight again for 20 - 30 reps - because I also thought avoiding this movement would not help. I think that this could be a low level start without any tools.

      ​@@lowbackability I just started watching - I myself found how wrong or incomplete advices are on deadlift etc (and many others) lot's of BS in fitness etc on how to squat (actually wrongly) hot to do biceps and triceps exercises (again wrongly) - and I think big part of why this happend is due to insurance system in USA + they had biggest media resources to sell and push it on to the world, same as other things they push.

    I’m 56, and I’ve been on a twenty year injury loop. Three surgeries even though I followed every protocol I was given in therapy.     Simply the BEST BACK video EVER. No BS. No fancy videos, no presentations, no meds, no subscriptions ... just straight to the point. Just a whiteboard and is so effective. You narrated my life story. I keep getting re-injured every time I try to push harder. Traditional PT definitely helps but it has never been able to help me get back into an active lifestyle. Last few months I was realizing that these stretches are just feel good and I need to do back strengthening exercises while not get re-injured, which I have so many times. Now I know what exercises I need to do.
    I cannot thank you enough for sharing this incredible video!

      It's on purpose. They're trying to sell something. This video comes from the empathy of this man's heart, because he's been through the pain and like many of us, would not wish the pain and reductive lifestyle this pain causes on anyone.     I had been suffering with low back pain for months. It would literally hurt to roll over to get out of bed. I was desperate for help. My chiropractor (who is awesome) assigned me the same stabilization exercises. The exercises weren't doing enough for me quickly enough. Then I came across your video and what you were saying made sense to me. I did a variation of the back extension on a machine at the gym with moderate. I have to say that the next day, I noticed a decrease in my low back pain. I have been doing the exercise for two weeks now and my low back pain is practically gone. I dreaded getting up in the morning because of some degree of pain. And, suddenly, the other day, I had made my way to the bathroom to get ready for my day when it occurred to me that it wasn't a struggle to get up that morning. My back feels amazing, and I feel as mobile as I was before. Thanks for the information.

    I just wanted to thank you for giving me a new back. I'm a 56-year-old woman who's been suffering from chronic lower back pain for 25 years. I've been working out all my life but avoided certain exercises for fear of injury. After I turned 40, all the doctors discouraged me from doing intensive exercises, saying I was too old to lift weights. I should walk, stretch and rest if my back hurts. I, of course never listened. I work out 4-5x times a week and about 6 weeks ago I started to implement these exercises as part of my warm-up routine: 2 minutes of iso hold, outerhip dropset with heel lift and with abduction for 30 seconds each, 1 minute straight leg hold up, 1 minute banded clam in side plank and 3-4 minutes of deep squat with heels down holding a kettlebell as counterweight and some McGill bird dog. The knowledge you have given me will enable me to help myself to live an active, painfree life well into my older years. I am very grateful to you!

    I am a 22 year old dealing with a terrible L5S1 bulge for the last 2 years. Can't sit more than 5 min without having a terrible flare up and the rest of my day ruined. Sciatic sensations all down both legs. When you said you started doing this hoping that some kid like you would hear this legit almost made me tear up dude bc I am that stuck kid.       Hey mate, Im also a 22 year old male who had a terrible L5 S1 bulge that gave me the worst sciatic symptoms. I almost became unemployed and was basically at home for 5 weeks because of the pain. I met with my neuro surgeon and got a Microdiscectomy and ive been living pain free for over a month now. Surgery is a big decision to make but i wouldn't change a thing; I'm back at the gym and lifting some decent weights and im just so mobile now. Just want to let you know that there is hope for you and i know how draining it is to experience that sort of pain and i wish you the absolute best

      26 now, herniated L5S1 at 20 and ended up getting a microdiscectomy as well. It got rid of my sciatica but I’ve been tweaking my back ever since. I wish I had known about this stuff then, but it feels like I’m finally on the right path. We will fix our SHIT!

    41 yo from Italy here. Been livin 4 years with this same situation. I spent lot of money and met LOT of doctors and therapists. Finally someone adresses the whole connection, the hips problems and imbalance, the whole situation with such clarity. More important, first time someone speaks about “re-program” the nervous system, and the link with neuroplasticity, and recabling the wires and signals, the importance of blood and oxygen pumpin through movement.

    Love the work you're doing! You are 100% accurate on your take.
    As someone with a disc herniation who trains 10 times per week for the past 6 years, consistently, trying my utter best to relentlessly improve my lower back, not leaving any stone unturned, never missing a single session. Doing mcgill big 3 with perfect breathing and intensity, trying pilates, trying yoga, trying reduced weight, after years of these approaches. I've found more value and strength in 3 months of your approach vs 6 years of "conventional" approaches.
    Let me be clear, the conventional approach got me out of pain, but did nothing to improve the usability of my lowerback.
    You are on to something, and I hope you get the recognition for it.

    Man I want to thank you, I have been following you on social media for a few months and I appreciate everything you are sharing.
    I am graduated in physical education at university in Italy and everything you are saying is correct.
    On top of this, I injured my back in June and discovered I had a protrusion which caused me a lot of pain and mental demotivation. Your videos have inspired me a lot.
    The only thing I would add to your speech is to always listen to your body first, an exercise seen online may be good for some people but not for all.

    Multiple herniated discs and back pain started at 21 for myself. I got better and then never truly fixed my SHIT. After the last few years being in trial and error I finally feel that at 27 I’m on the right path. God bless what you do, giving people their lives back is miracle work.

I just recently started doing back extensions before i watched this video and I can tell its helping but after seeing this kid, I am goning to try the spine strenghting (all the way down) exercise. I'm 56 and super excited to escape this pain. The more muscle you have the better protected you will be.

    Legend! As a doctor in his 50s, and a black belt with 40 years of lumbar pain this makes so much sense. Ten years ago i did 18 months of boot camp which strengthened my core, and 95% of my chronic recurrent lumbar pain disappeared for good. Now, following an injury rolling during training i have been diagnosed with "degenerative thoracic kyphotic spinal disease". I was becoming addicted to my back roller, and had thoughts of leaving my farm for town, and buying a motorized scooter with plenty of cotton wool... 😢But since this video i am inspired to work on ALL of my spine's intrinsic mm.     I'm 71 and have had a bad back since my teenage years. I worked hard as a young kid, worked out a lot, played rough sports, but with that all, I do think I got the bad draw of good genes for the spine. All my sisters have good backs. Anyway, I've done so many things to try to keep my back so sensitive and it's 'helped' but not as much as the effort I put into it. I'm following your program starting today since I just put together a back extension machine. I'll take it slow as you said. YOU are so amazing sharing your vast knowledge on the subject!     Thanks man. You are me, and i know there is light at the end of the tunnel. This pain wont define me and rule my life. I gotta keep on keeping on. Some days im full of hope, but others when im sore again its so disheartening and i hate to admit but i project that pain onto my partner and dog by being grumpy. Thankfully they understand my struggles.
    My biggest issue at the moment is waking up sore and stiff in my hips. Changing position in the night in bed can be very painful.
    Had L5/S1 discectomy surgery for large herniation almost 3 years ago. I was so guarded since that i didnt let my back function properly. And was in fear of being in pain again I fell into the exact cycle yoy explain.
    I appreciate you, and with your help and guidance I'll be myself again. One day at a time. Ups and downs. Ill keep on keeping on

    I just saw you on Dr.Berg. I crushed, cracked and fractured many vertebrae in my lower back in 1981. I am now 66, my neck, cervicle spine needs fusing. Several MRI's, CT's X-Rays, Electromyograghy tests lead me to believe several doctors all saying only surgery might help. Badly pinched nerve and 5 vertabrae will need hardware. I wonder what type of exercise I should do after. I was 354 pounds before going Carnivore. I feel better and stronger that I did 40 years ago. Do you ever work on necks? You really impressed me. I have very little trust in doctors. When I broke my back, they said I would never ride a motorcycle again. They were way wrong. My feet and lower legs have been numb since April. I ride my eBike 20 miles per day and flew a Piper Cherokee in September. With numbness, I still pushed the rudders as necessary. So much of it is in the power of your mind. You do fine without being College impaired. 😊

    2x a week
    Iso Back Holds 1x 30s (build up to 2x 2 mins) pad at hip height
    Trap 3 raise 2x 15 bodyweight, dead straight arms no momentum and squeeze mid/low traps (progress with small weight)
    Knees over toe half squat hold 1 min (raised to begin, keep heel on floor/box)
    Raised heel deep squat without butt wink hold 2 min
    Back extension reps, assisted or half reps to start and go slow (standard is 30 full reps with control)
    Outer hip dropset: 90/90 foot raise 30s, 90/90 foot raise and knee raise 30s, straighten leg hold 30s. (glute should be on fire, try piriformis stretch here afterwards and see difference), can progress with ankle weights
    Elephant walks after back extensions, two legs with hands at a height, progress lower and also into single leg variations
    Squeeze (pump) stretch approach can be used if you want to continue doing some form of stretching

    I saw one your videos on tiktok like at least an year ago, and for a moment I was like this guy may really be on to something (as I was a back sufferer xd and also been to therapy or generally tried many "solutions") but since then I saved a few of your videos and simply started doing some stretching and mainly getting stronger with the back extension, I also stopped doing any flare up movements like squats, deadlifts or marathon running. I think I'm halfway through healing my chronic pain because I no longer feel any stifness or limitations in movement but still can't deadlift or squat heavy without feeling that shit sensation in the lower back. Since then a lot has improved for me just by your 2-3 40 second tiktok videos and now this yt video pops up for me, which really sets a path to success for me. Honestly props to you man, I read your story in the description and I gotta say congrats and simply thank you!

    I'm 27 years old and am struggling with exactly what you described, a serious issue for me that wasn't being taken serious by others, I went to physical therapy for 4 months and they basically said my issues were because of stress and that I just needed to workout more consistently.

      In this whole video does he show what exercises to do? I’m willing to watch it. I’m only 20 years old and had back pain since for ever and I work out and always took care of my back no ego lifting no injuries etc. but now I think sitting for long periods of time especially in school is what caused this if I sit to long it hurts if I stand to long it hurts

    Great video. I am a PT of 30+ years and I agree with you. Stability is not the final goal. Strength through the entire ranges of the lumbar spine. Its common sense. You can make rehab as complicated as you want, and I believe some therapist do this deliberately. IMO

      Ya probably to keep ya commin back 😢 it could be as simple as sayin do deez. Get a 45° and start spammin at your own pace. Then do yoga and high rep hindu exercises until your ready to horse rdls and deadlifts. If you can't deadlift then just back extension until pain free.

      @ no I don’t think they are aware. I believe there is a massive gap of practical understanding of how the spine can decay or remodel over time. No study exists on the effect of 2+ years of a direct & progressive stimulus to the spine, because no one has ever been instructed to do so.
      We have correctly observed that spinal flexion increases shear load. However we have falsely assumed this to be a bad thing.
      It’s about the dosage, the steps, and ultimately the practical process that even the most sophisticated experts will miss because they have never been through the process themselves.
      Textbooks will be change in the next decade from this movement. And it will be put into motion from practical innovation, created from wisdom of actual experience. Then the medical field will follow through the appropriate research.

    I'm 35 and first hurt my back when I was 17. For half of my life I have hurt my back over and over and over. No one has been able to diagnose anything other than inflammation which is obvious because that's what happens during an injury. I hurt my back yesterday and your video came up.     I'm 45, had my first back injury just getting out of the car about 6 months ago, all the Dr told me was it happens with age and I am going to have to just deal with it when it comes back, which it did like 3 weeks ago racking leaves in the front yard. 6 months ago they never suggested or even told me PT was a route I should take, just gave me a muscle relaxer and said be careful with it. Your video has given me some direction and a little bit of hope that this doesn't have to be a wait for it to happen again. Going to work this into my workouts.

    I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with L4-5 ,L5 S1 disc buldge , with 3 years of suffering from back Pain and doing physiotherapy for last 5 months, I didn't get any relief from physiotherapy and the exercises then I came across your reel and decided to rebuild my back from scratch.     I've had the exact same experience of re-injury after herniation. I do well for a while, then out of nowhere I get a bad flare up of pain. You do a perfect job of getting to and clearly explaining the root of the problem with very simple straightforward solutions that are practical. The whiteboard drawing is life changing. And I can probably remove 100 other back pain videos from my TH-cam "Back Pain" list. Thank you for posting this.

    I have 2 protrusion, one in L4 L5 and other in L5 S1 with a discopathy (my disc is very degenerated and slim)
    Since I practice the exercise and the movements that you recommend in your IG and TH-cam, I'm almost in 5% pain in comparison with the hell i were before.

      You’ll notice everyone promoting loaded flexion are under 30. I beleive There’s a reason for that……. Admittedly, the progressions in this video are interesting though and it’s possible standard PT training is incorrect. I’ll be trying some of this myself to see if us old people can do loaded flexion.

    I have to say man thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am almost in tears at having found this video. You address every aspect of my back pain experience, and fucking provide solutions in one blessed video. Thank you so much for this, I have just ordered my roman chair and I feel like there is finally a way to be free from this. In the past years, (I have had back pain since I can remember) I have actually gone through yoga/stretches, walking in nature and walking more in general and eased a lot of the pain I used to have, but its been like I cant really completely be rid of the difficulties! Like if I am not constantly moving I will get pain, this was definitely the missing piece of the puzzle. Amazing video, thank you so much

    Brendan, thank you for this! The missing link. I'm 59 years old. Between age 18-30, had recurring, chronic low back pain that would put me on the floor for two weeks, just from tying my shoe. I spent so much money on chiropractors! When that didn't work, I'd go to the ER- I couldn't sit in the waiting room. I had to lie on the floor. I was treated like a crazy person, and nothing they did helped. The episodic back pain eventually stopped, but not because of anything I did. Now I'm very interested in keeping as much bone, mobility and balance as possible to avoid the dreaded fates I've seen in some of my patients (I'm an RN) and friends. This is the way to go. You are literally changing lives for the better! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    That's a great story in the show notes! (Although I am of course very sorry you had back pain in the first place).
    I have a similar story with my foot pain:
    - years of pain
    - Doctors tried to convince me surgery was the only option to get pain free, and I'd never play sport properly
    - But I had a hunch that there was a solution in making my whole body move better
    - I finally became pain free using exercises influenced by Knees over Toes Guy and others
    - BUT... It took hours and hours per day of study, developing plans, testing, adjusting. And I had to leave my job to focus on it 100%, which cost me everything. I'm glad I did it because I know I will be able to play sport again, but really it should not have required me to put my life on hold to find the solutions - why isn't standard physiotherapy more holistic??
    Any way, I digress, thanks for your videos!
    And to anyone out there who is in pain - just keep going, you will find a solution, just keep on searching and it will come👊

    Taken me way too long to realise that my hips are S.H.I.T. Specifically my left Psoas which is incredibly tight and causing me chronic low left back pain. My injury comes from doing Rowing when I was younger and causing a bunch of muscle imbalances. Working through your program now, only just started, will report back ❤️

    Thank you! Had this cycle from 24-27. Years of phys therapy doing the big 3. Eventual surgery at 28 because it wasn't helping and reinjury kept happening. After surgery I bought a roman chair and started to actually pump my low back - it's helped tremendously. I haven't done any of the other suggested exercises, so I'll start on those immediately. Please get the mainstream Phys Therapy world fixed! This is criminal that there's such low intelligence towards actual health. My piriformis still acts up sometimes, so I'll absolutely start that dropset routine daily.

    My pushup number is between 60-80, military form. And my back extension reps varies between 8-15. Thanks for the comparison.
    I've watched many videos, learned many interpretations. I do my own myo-fascial release, and I have a friend who is an MAT practitioner. My tissue work relieves fascia tension, but never fixes the weaknesses. MAT seems to activate the muscles but only for a short period of time, minutes, hours, days. Then it goes away.
    And I keep tweaking my lower back. After listening to you, I hear you saying things I haven't heard. Like the way we find this pain through our body protecting ourselves. This is intuitive in the experience. I am inclined to implement your routines, over others, because you seem to have what feels like the 'whole picture'.
    Thanks for the focus and dedication you've put into this, and bringing it to youtube. I plan to come back in a few months when I've put your practices to work, and give some feedback.

    I rarely comment on a youtube video, and just want to make my spine stronger for RDLS. Sat the whole way throughout the video, your way of explaining and depth of knowledge on spinal anatomy is incredible ! I would love your detailed video on sports hernia and inguinal hernia too !

    You demystified all the problems I've been having. I'm 32. I fixed my back multiple times over the span of three years to like 80% and either got stuck at that point or reinjured it back. Never was I able to fully heal it and regain strength. Also started to have problems with my hip. But with what You said I'm confident I can make further improvements. I would like to hug You. Thank You for Your work, what You do is important ❤️
