Also, for clarity, I prefer to substitute X-0-2-3-4-X for 7-7-7-7-X-X at “right there baby telling you everything's gonna be alright” and “be there baby telling you you were never nothin' less than beautiful”, before the open E (0-0-0-0-X-X). Hope this helps!
This is one of the few correctly played versions that I have seen on TH-cam. Well done, Cristina! A couple of notes: The original “Pieces of You” (1995) tuning for this song is Open D Flat (Db-Ab-Db-F-Ab-Db). At some point, Jewel raised the tuning to Open E for live performances. She plays Angel Standing By (in E) on MTV Unplugged (’97), Toronto (‘97), Stockholm (’97), VH1 Storytellers (’99) and Woodstock (’99). Jewel achieves the Open E by tuning to Open D (D-A-D-F#-A-D) with a capo on fret 2. This shifts the harmonics on frets 5, 7 and 12 to frets 7, 9 and 14. The upper register may present challenges for some, both vocally and instrumentally, as the 14 fret harmonics compel a slightly more difficult fingering for those without a cutaway. I personally prefer the higher tuning, though I find it easier to tune to Open E (E-B-E-G#-B-E) as I only need to raise 3 strings rather than lower all 6. I also find that the strings have more clarity without a capo, though the higher string tension will require greater force from the fingering hand.
Wow! Your knowledge of this song is amazing! I also prefer the higher tuning. It's easier for me to sing and is easier to tune my guitar. Thanks for your comments! 💚
A+ for effort. The lighting behind your head looks appropriately angelic.
Thank you.
BEAUTIFUL.
Thank you!
