I can't thank you enough for this video! I was diagnosed with PNES by a psychologist I had been working with after I had undergone a year of medical testing for unexplained seizures. I was accused of faking by school authority and never taken seriously by medical personnel(I was never admitted to the hosp). My seizures began my junior year of HS and I wasn't diagnosed until late my senior year. After dedicated work with my counselor I am now a happy, healthy sophomore in college (4.0 GPA!).

@rahul radhakrishnan Sorry to hear of your scary experiences. Please do not solicit medical advice or a diagnosis on TH-cam! Nobody here is qualified to give them. And if several doctors have ruled out retinal detachment, stop Googling it. Trust me, both only make your pain and frightening symptoms worse! I highly recommend finding a pain management professional who is knowledgable about the mind-body connection and the biopsychosocial approach to medicine. The human brain is very powerful and can manifest any physical symptoms it can imagine, including vision/eye issues. Best wishes

Such an informative video. I have borderline personality disorder and I started having pyschogenic non epileptic seizures. In the mornings I would feel very dizzy, spaced out, and sick. I would get an aura or Deja Vu feeling that would come over me. Some mornings my partner would find me seizing in the closet and didn't know I was actually having a seizure. Unresolved childhood trauma, and stress triggered the event. I was having a grand mal seizure and almost died. They stabilized me and now they have me on anticonvulsant medication. I'm going to meet with a nuerology team to study what happened to me. I'm so lucky to be alive.

Thank you so much for sharing clearly such an otherwise mystifying issue! With cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, my PNES seizures stopped without medication. It has been difficult to explain it to others without having to add that in my case it is rooted in PTSD. I went against the inclination to hide and recorded a TH-cam video clip journal of the jerks, seizures and the journey through medical inability to diagnose, and then psychological counseling and road to recovery. If anyone out there feels alone or needs some hope...they are for you and anyone else you would like to convince what might and might not help you work through your very real issues. Take heart!

I cure people who have PNES by getting them to testify against their abuser’s in court because confronting whatever you suppressed is the best medicine. PNES is a mental suppression problem and I have seen psychiatrist’s prescribe mental suppression drugs which makes the seizures worse. When you push problems deep down inside it starts to manifest itself physically kinda like how people can die from grief. It’s similar! If you ever deal with anything traumatic be sure to always talk about it because PNES can come back especially if you don’t understand it! I hope that I can be of some help?

You are certainly not alone. I've not walked in your shoes personally..I too battle with Psychogenic seizures where my two major triggers are "stress" and a "traumatic brain injury" as a result of surviving a near fatal 70 MPH head on collision with a wrong-way drunk driver whereas until now I'd never had any history of seizures.
I'm one to naturally have a calm and level head with nerves of steel and remember my first ever experience which was a sobering one at that albeit my episodes are brief, I'm able to remain conscious and somewhat aware during that time.

@hawaiifan One theory on the shaking is that it is like the way animals shake off deadly attacks after freezing. It completes the processing in that case. It is uncertain whether it completes the processing when it takes place years afterward, but may be related to recovery in some way. As I have pursued therapy over 6 months for PTSD, PNES has steadily decreased. I still have episodes, but they don't last as long. I have used EMDR myself to see if it had any effect on PNES, and it did the one time I did it. Mindfulness also develops better connections to emotions, which includes early ones. So in my case, healing includes a handful of methods: individual CBT therapy, PTSD and Mindfulness group therapy, self-managed EMDR, Massage, and lots of compassion from family and friends who don't judge.

I have been fighting these for years and could never explain the convulsions I have until finding these videos. A lot of doctors told me they never seen it before but knew it wasn’t a seizure from the time and that I sont lose consciousness. Wish I had doctors like you in my state. I’ve been going to war with myself and can’t get referrals or anything. If you know anyone in Louisiana that can help please reach out. I been fighting alone and feel alone with it.

it is typically stress-induced, but could rarely be explained by other causes. When the mind decides it must block a memory, it acts as a defense to a person...and it blocks it; like a coin down a vending machine; there, but inaccessible. As it emerges later when older or stronger, it presses psychologically through that age-old defense. But the psyche only reveals this struggle through the body. Some physical signs are minor and easily overlooked or misdiagnosed. Other physical symptoms run the gamut in variety; eye twitches, hyper-reactive reflexes, anxiety heart palpitations, unexplained weakness or flinches, jerks and even grand-mal PNES. They are best noted as a sign of unseen psychological stress, not as a disorder within themselves. Memories that emerge hold the root of the problem. These must be faced, grieved, and then the work of undoing our overactive defenses through cognitive behavioral psychotherapy brings us to a better than ever new life

I noticed someone else in the comments also referred to grand mal seizures (now known as tonic-clonic seizures) as PNES seizures. They are actually classified as epileptic seizures because they are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

6-7 episods in 3 years. Each time with prolonged space (3-4 minutes) of "prodromic symptoms" (clearly stating the attack). EEG not showing specific abnormalities (just a generic one). According to this the neurologist diagnosed PNES. But once, after an attack, while sleeping in the Emergency room, the attack took place. Is the PNES diagnosis compatible with the attack happend while sleeping? Thank you so much.

One day, I had two, back to back, that lasted over 50 minutes each. Had a break of about 15 minutes between them. I wouldn't say it's normal, but if it happens, it's definitely something to note. You may not require hospital or emergency attention afterwards unless it's the first time it has happened or something. I'm not a doctor though, so I would research it personally and see what applies to you.

PNES is a mental suppression problem because I can actually cure people with PNES. I help people who have PNES testify against their abuser’s in court and it totally cures the seizures because exposure therapy is a must! You have to be willing to deal in order to heal. When you push problems way deep, down inside it can manifest itself physically kinda similar to how people can die from grief. Some people can’t confront their abuser’s or they have PNES just from having too much anxiety and I have methods to help with different kinds of exposure therapy for different issues. I too was abused by family members and I suppressed it deep down inside so I understand this problem because I lived it!

@@believeinjesus2677 which is not good. Since it make your muscles hurts a ton when you get out of it. No one is really explaining what happens to the brain to the chemicals it produces to achieve the fight-flight state. This is a mental suppression psychological problem and I can explain why! I help people who have PNES testify against their abuser’s in court and it actually cures the seizures completely. I have seen mental suppression drugs make the seizures worse. When you push problems way deep down inside yourself, it can manifest itself physically. We all know how people can die from grief! You got to be willing to deal with whatever is really bothering you and bring it to the surface and deal with it in order to heal. There’s no medicine like confronting your abuser and I know that from my own experience. If people are not able to confront their abuser there is other forms of exposure therapy that can help! Some people suffer from PNES just from having major anxiety so they have to learn to deal with the things that causes that anxiety! I am here to explain any questions that you have. I hope that I was able to be helpful on this condition?

People claim the EEGs are normal but they can't get to the deeper brain areas like the insula and basal ganglia, etc from what I understand. I think if they could see that part of the brain's activity they'd not be saying that the brain's electrical function is "normal".
