Alcatraz actually rehabilitated this man by allowing him to utilize his incarceration to better himself while imparting knowledge only he could have, to generations to come. That’s an admirable reversal of fortune.
I met Bill a few times when he was thetd for the Alumni reunion. I was there as an escort for another Alumni, Linda Sather, who was the wife of Ted Sather, Coast Guard Light House keeper. Bill always did a great presentation and answered qurstions from the public. His book is pretty informative and fun to read. There's a laugh or two in every chapter.
I met him in 2018, and I asked him a dumb question about laundry. I assumed they were treated like military prisoners, but really, even after rough treatment and getting busted up regularly, they didn't have the human spirit beaten out of them. I had open warrants at that time, but was inspired by him to take accountability of my life and move forward. Life couldn't be better now!
If he had behaved himself, and not stole things that others worked hard for, he wouldn't have been there. And now he's got a book out about the place. Ironic.
If anyone knows how to get in touch with this Man I would Love to talk to him. The Man Roland Simcox who he talks about being the most Dangerous man in Alcatraz is my Son's Grandfather. Ron died in 2006 . I would love to hear any stories William could share
At least he tells the truth. Most would lie. So I appreciate his honesty about it. Sometimes you need to expand your brain and think those words mean more than what you think. In other words as in the world today if everyone was able to make easy money and make a living there wouldn’t be many thieves and thugs as what we have in todays society. And that’s the truth!!
