This is the kind of review I’d want to hear. He doesn’t talk non-sense like color, design etc. What everyone needs to know is how the car rolls. And how does it match-up to its rivals? Good job.
You have what it takes to be a very good automobile journalist and a content creator. Your review was objective, I believe you will do very well in the long run. Keep up the good work.
Hi @@vasanthsandeep , In my opinion, CSUVs will always be a notch below sedans and hatchbacks for being the perfect driver's car. To give you an example, even the EcoSport (currently the favourite driver's car in CSUV segment) feels top heavy compared a small nimble hatchback like the Polo or even a family friendly sedan like the Honda City. Among the CSUVs, I'd say the EcoSport is the most sporty but it's not comparable to a sedan or a well-tuned hatch. I hope this answers your question:)
@@vasanthsandeep Unfortunately, sedans are a dying breed in India. If you want fun to drive, I'd honestly recommend you to consider a used BMW 320d. I've seen 2014 models change hands for 13.5-14.5 lacs. If you are not comfortable with used cars, your only options are to go with a new Honda City or wait for the Vento replacement in 2022. I'd personally choose the latter and use this time to grow my money as it'll be expensive than the current Rapid. PS: Vento and Rapid are good cars but they are too old for them to be relevant today, it makes sense to wait till early 2022.
I see lot of audience appreciating your genuine review. Ofcourse, this is not a very good review, but it is decent. XUV300 is one among the 5 star rated cars. To start with, none of the features are going to save us at the peak times, end of the it is only build quality does. Instead of promoting feature full cars, kindly promote the cars which have strong build quality. If you go for looks, mileage and biggerboot (which don’t save your life) and buy 3 star rated cars we might end up somewhere in hospital, handicapped or in heaven resting there. It is important to consider every aspect of car, only that makes you feel safer and confident while driving with your loved ones. If you aren’t buying xuv300, better buy only 5 star rated car just for your loved ones. XUV300 is the best in its SEGMENT. As i am going to receive mine in Aug, i would recommend to everyone who is looking for a best compact SUV. Thank you! And may god bless you!
I am a Ford fanboy and also owned 2 Fords.. but between Ecosport and XUV300, I see the XUV getting a lot of flak on dynamics which is rather unfair.. I have driven both and I felt XUV more stable at speeds and having better body balance.. sure the Ecosport wins convincingly in the steering feel but I think saying the balance is worse than Ecosport is just conforming to world view not to offend anyone ..
Hi (clever name btw), I know the things that we look for in our cars can be different even while judging the same parameter. However, I have shared my honest opinion on this. I own a Ford EcoSport petrol, have driven the EcoSport diesel (both Titanium and Trend) and I had the XUV with me for over 10 days. I have driven the XUV300 previously as well. If you take any set of curves in the EcoSport and the XUV, the difference in the two is very apparent. The way the two cars react to direction changes, mid corner acceleration, or even lane changes in the middle of a curve is very different. Please note that I was driving the diesel XUV300 and the tuning of the petrol is different, so your experience might be coming from there. Again, views might differ person to person:)
Random recommendation.. And I'm like wow..! He compared.. He suggested.. He gave solution.. He adviced.. What the hell.. Thank god.. I'm going to buy a car in a month's gap.. He is my man..! ❤️
Thanks for the very informative video. Talking about the stability/ handling and grip of the XUV, do you think better tires like Michelin LT or Continental would improve the experience? Are the MRF Wanderers an adequate option or would you advise upgrading them?
Hi, Thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you liked it:) I haven't tried the wanderers from MRF because I moved away from them a few years ago after a very bad experience in my Dad's Ikon. However, the newer MRFs are much better from what I have heard. I would happily recommend the Michelins (except the XM series) for anyone interested in handling and grip. They are also much quieter.
Refined terminology and a plethora of practical knowledge, is what compelled me to hit a subscribe. You deserve it brother, unique presentation without beating around the bush. Keep up your spirit high, expecting more practical sessions while driving from your end😇
What would be your opinion about xuv300 now as we all know that Ford ecosport is no more an option.?? What can be the best alternative in c-suv ?? I think undoubtedly xuv300 in diesel.
@@road_not_taken hi after so much of research on this segment I found this video is extremely useful in deciding the right C-SUV.. while my heart is still inclined towards buying a 2nd hand ecosport.. I booked XUV diesel w6 variant few days back considering the fact there is no other option among new cars. What’s your recommendation? Should I buy a 2nd hand less driven Ecosport or a new XUV 300 in diesel
Hi@@maheshar1631 , I believe the answer depends on your ownership duration. If you plan to own the vehicle for 5-7 years, the EcoSport is a great buy at 6-7 lacs for the Diesel Facelift. You'll spend almost half the money (compared to a new XUV300) and you can sell it back at ~3 lacs. However, if you plan to sell the car sooner (
Should I buy creta base model diesel or go for xuv w8 diesel?..Also if my running is low should I consider petrol engine?? Very confused between both the cars or should I go for Nexon?
Hi Piyush, That's a big decision! Can you also tell us a bit about your use case? 1. City vs Highway 2. How many adults/children travel together 3. Are you more interested in comfort or great handling?
@@piyushsingh7855 Hi, For your use case, I'd suggest the mid spec Creta over the W8 XUV300 because of the following reasons: 1. Space: The Creta is a bigger, more mature machine and your family will appreciate more space in the back (rear seats and boot). 2. Ride and Handling: The XUV300 is a great package but the Creta does all of that better as its a segment above 3. Features: Even the mid spec Creta will get most of the features as the XUV300 and you won't feel short-changed. 4. Newness of product: The Creta is a much newer product, so it will stay relevant and fetch better resale when you plan to sell it. The reasons to buy the XUV300 would be: 1. Safety: If you upgrade to a W8(O), you will get more airbags but a similar Creta is over 20 lacs. Further, the NCAP rating of the XUV is much better. 2. Size: If you live in a congested space, the Creta might be a little bigger, but I'd say that over a few months you'll get used to the size. I hope this answers your question:)
That was a damn clean review.. such a refreshing and calm style of review.. music to the ears after all the other reviews in which they're literally screaming😅
@@road_not_taken I have one question though if you don't mind.. I currently have an Ecosport and have been driving it for 8 years now and I'm looking for a new one.. now having adjusted to the dynamics of the Ecosport and also the boot space being around 350 litres.. which would you suggest I go for next? Budget would be around 15 lakhs
Hi@@chandannaidu96 , Thanks for your question. I were in your shoes, here's how I'd think: 1. Kia Seltos/Hyundai Creta: I am not confident about their safety and feel that dynamically they won't satisfy me in the long run. Plus the power difference between the EcoSport and these isn't huge. Even the Turbo petrol is only ~20 bhp more than the EcoSport Turbo Petrol. 2. Kushaq/Taigun: While the 1.5 TSI manual excites me, I felt that the cabin isn't much bigger than the EcoSport in terms of width. It has more legroom in the back, but that's it. Plus my experience with VW has been average in the past. If you put a gun to my head and ask to choose a new car I'd still buy either of these. 3. Honda City: I like the City overall. It's a great package but Honda needs to refresh their powertrains to stay relevant. I'd suggest you to try used cars: 1. Tata Harrier: I have recently driven it and I loved it but Tata's after sales scare me: th-cam.com/video/VtOzvCwbZPU/w-d-xo.html 2. Used BMW 320d: Amazing machine and you'd get a good one for your budget. 3. Ford Endeavour: If Ford leaves India, the prices of used Endeavours will drop and I'll pick one up definitely. I hope this helps:)
bought a xuv300 4 days back and completed 557 Kms. One of the clean and nice review without unnecessary shouting and point to point. Will watch few more from this channel before subscribing. Liked it. Thanks.
@@Raveendhana I have been using this car since my last comment , completed 19071 kms as of today. The boot is not unusable, but it is small. However - it can hold one large trolly and couple of hand baggages when parcel tray is on, if you are going for a very long trip or picking someone at airport or station - You can remove the parcel tray for that day and can hold 2 large trolleys on standing position. and a bag as well. I have done Bangalore to north Bengal trip in this car with rear seats folded and it did that without breaking a sweat. You can rev at 2500-3000 RPM for 10-12 hours and still the engine and you will be comfortable. For everyday tasks-boot is sufficient. You can carry the usual luggage you carry for your trips and check the boot during test drive.
Hi, I might not be the best judge as I had rented this car for the review. From what I have read though, Mahindra's service is a hit or miss depending on which city you are in. However, the feedback has been largely positive in terms of the effort Mahindra puts in.
@@road_not_taken thanks for prompt response. Also, forget to add MG Astor (base+1 model) into the comparison. Overall usage on lighter side less than 30 KM per day, except few long vacation trips. I am based out of Gurgaon. And does German cars really burns a hole in the pocket when it comes to maintenance?
Hi @@Soldymm , Among these cars, the first one I'd let go is the Astor. The NA 1.5 won't be as much fun as either the XUV or the Kushaq. Between these two, I'd request you to test drive and choose as I haven't driven the Taigun/Kushaq twins. However, these two are from a segment higher and I always recommend base trim from a higher segment than vice versa as the mechanical package is superior. Still, do test drive them, I am not the best judge as of now :)
@@road_not_taken thanks for suggestions. 🙏 Also you have solved the dilemma of higher trim vs lower trim, very pertinent question. You should make a video on that itself.
How it compares with nexon petrol, and which one to go for considering it's my first car? also for me it's mostly city 60-70% rest highway, now considering nexon provides all safety features from base variant which one to go for? Regarding driving dynamics how nexon steering + suspension + driving mode + slightly poor engine compares with xuv driving dynamics?
Hi Debabrata, I feel that the XUV300 petrol is a better buy than Nexon if you look at the overall package. The reason I say this is because Nexon's engine isn't tuned perfectly. Diesel is still okay, the petrol engine's tuning has a lot of flat spots. I have only driven the Nexon petrol and would recommend against it. I haven't driven the XUV300 but the reviews I have heard are very positive. Please do try both for yourself before buying. In terms of value, I feel they are almost the same as the XUV has a lot of discounts. Dynamically, I'd rate the Nexon higher as I mentioned in the video, but the engine can't use those dynamics to it's advantage. And as a package the XUV wins. However, please don't decide before the test drives, and take a proper long one. If I were you, I would rent both the cars for a day and then decide:)
In my opinion, the XUV300 is better for both Safety and comfort as: Safety: Nexon gets a 4 star NCAP rating and 2 airbags even in top trims. On the other hand, XUV300 gets 7 airbags and a 5 star NCAP rating. Comfort: I felt that the ride of the XUV300 and the Nexon was evenly matched, but it might differ for the petrol variants. In terms of space as well, both of them are almost same. However, in my opinion, the ambience of the XUV300 is more premium in terms of the materials used and which is why it is slightly better, but not a big difference. What tilts the overall decision in favour of the XUV300 is the amazing engines, both diesel and petrol that are superior in terms of tuning compared to the Tata. I hope this answers your question:)
Thanks for your suggestions I am going with xuv. One doubt on variant. I have required features is w8 but esp, traction control and hill assist only available on w8 optional but the cost is 14.5 lacks. Is it ok to choose w8 without those safety feature. Still the car is safe.or should I go with w8 optional which is very costly.
Hi @@sakthivel-kg7mb, I personally feel that the bump for the W8(O) is worth it because the additional ~1 lakh gives you: 1. 5 more airbags (Critical) 2. ESP (Critical) 3. Hill start assist (Good to have) 4. TPMS (Good to have) 5. Auto dimming IRVM (Good to have) 6. Front parking sensors (Good to have) 7. 2nd row seat belt reminder (Not necessary) 8. Bungee straps (Not necessary) Overall, given the critical and good to have features, I feel the premium is worth it. If you can stretch a bit, or ask Mahindra to negotiate a bit, it's worth it. PS: Not to confuse you more but you are very close the the XUV700 due to the excellent pricing. Do consider it if you can wait for a long delivery period :)
Hi Dr Shinde, I haven't driven the Bolero Neo or the TUV300. I have only driven the previous gen Bolero so I can't be the best judge here :) But I'd suggest that you avoid the Bolero if most of your driving would be on well paved roads. The Bolero/TUV is built to withstand abuse but also makes a lot of compromises due to that. Consider it only if you do a lot of rural driving on broken roads.
In this video.... which one were you driving......deisel or petrol.....manual or automatic. I am planning for diesel automatic......any feedback back from you regarding its performance in traffic and slow ghat road
Hi Manoj, I was driving the Diesel manual, and it has a great engine that performs really well across all conditions. But I'd really suggest you to look at the XUV700 as it's priced very close to the XUV300's top variants currently. If you are comfortable with a big car and can stretch your budget a bit, nothing like it:)
@@road_not_taken xuv 700 is in my mind but my cousin suggested never to buy tata and mahindra cars atleast for one year after launch...he said 1st lot of cars will always have problems and tata and mahindra will correct it after initial feedback
@@maanooj That's a very valid point. I agree with it. The good thing is, if you book an XUV700 in October, you'll get your delivery after 10-12 months. This would mean: 1. The early batch niggles would be resolved 2. Mahindra will hike prices at least by 1.5-2 lacs by then. If there is price protection it'll be a great deal. PS: This is assuming you are prepared to wait:) If not, XUV300 is a decent option.
Hi@@jagathkumar6861 , Great question, honestly. I have taken only a short test drive of the XUV700 so I am not the best person to compare. I personally prefer a higher segment vehicle than the highest trim, so base XUV700 over a top trim XUV300, except when it comes to safety. For my use case, where we travel as a family often, XUV700 fits better. However, which vehicle is more fun to drive? That answer I'll share as soon as I get an XUV for a few days for a review. Which one are you leaning towards?
Hi Joydeep, I haven't driven the Sonet, but have driven the Venue. Overall, my recommendation is to buy the Sonet automatic if: Your highway drives are very limited (seems true for you) and you don't expect to seat adults taller than 5'10 or 3 adults in the rear seat. However, if you want to increase your highway driving in the future or plan to seat adults in the back, the XUV300 manual is more fun and safer. I hope this helps:)
Hi Sai, Thanks for the question. Can you please tell me a bit about: 1. Your use case: Where do you typically drive (City/Highway), your running, and how many adults/kids in the family. 2. The Creta S would be 1.5 Petrol/1.5 diesel. Are you also looking at the 1.4 Turbo?
@@saimadhav00 Thanks for the details. Here is how I would rate these cars on different parameters: Engine: XUV300. Especially on the 50% highway running, the XUV will shine. Further, with 4 adults in the car, the performance of the 1.5 petrol will be very basic. Comfort: Creta will be more comfortable for sure given you have a family of 4. It is not only wider, it has more legroom as well. Safety: XUV will not only give you more airbags (W8(O) vs S) but is car that is rater better by GNCAP. If I were in your shoes, I'd choose the petrol XUV300. If all people in your family are adults and you live outside the Delhi NCR, please consider the diesel Creta as well.
I would say that your overall assessment is much novice to actually judge a machine like XUV 300. Stability and steering is at par with its top rivals while it totally dominates all the other cars in its segment when compared from every dimension. You probably want to say that your preference is Eco sport but then you don't want to accept the fact that XUV 300 is a much better vehicle.
Also, he said creta or seltos are suv of a segment above but a person who is going for xuv300 is likely going for its power, torque and safety which are below par in seltos/Creta in petrol engines ( Gt line are way costly)
Fun to drive car.. driving pleasure...the best one is - xuv 300 Diesel, creta Diesel, seltos Diesel, Honda City Diesel..or any other car in the segment .. please suggest
Hi Omkaar, I feel the Honda City can't be compared to the SUVs because a sedan will always have a better handling. I haven't driven the diesel variants of Seltos/Creta so I'm not the best judge. But I am driving them next week :) Overall, my rating would be: 1. Honda City 2. XUV300 Seltos/Creta diesel (haven't driven, driving them next week) I hope this helps.
Boot space should not be judged on litres, but on shape. There are cars which are big in litres capacity but when you put in luggage you'll realise that Only one big suitcase and 2 small bags would fit. In xuv 300 you can easily manage 2 big suitcase and one medium sized suitcase. Just place them vertically.
@@Raveendhana But if you don't care about luggage too much, it's worth it. Performance and comfort oriented car. Don't expect the milage more than 13 kmpl as well
@@shreeramhegade9008 i feel xuv 300 is best suited with diesel , and reliability wise am sceptical about their turbo charged petrol engines in the longterm
Hi, I haven't driven the WRV, so I can't comment on it. But the refinement of the same engine on the City isn't great. Plus it has a narrow powerband compared to the XUV and Nexon's engine. Between the Nexon and the XUV, I'd choose the XUV as a package because of the slightly better engine tuning, safety (Nexon only gets 2 airbags) and I personally like the interiors of the XUV more. I hope this helps:)
What the video at 2x speed made me have so many scary moments but kudos to your driving and your explanation as well. This is what sort of comparison that I needed to hear and finally found it. I totally connected with you on the features part. I see so many people cribbing about such tucha features, which I don't even have in my 2015 Honda Amaze car, and I wonder these people have become so used to such features they want it in every car.
Excellent and very useful contents. want a favour here. which would be best buy between kia sonet htx petrol dct and xuv 300 amt w8 ? i have mostly city drive occasionally outings on weekends. thanks in advance.
Hi Nikhil, Interesting choices. The Sonet has the better gearbox, while the XUV is safer and more spacious. Here is how I would think: 1. If I stay outside Delhi NCR, I'd pick the Sonet Diesel Auto as the engine gearbox combination is much better than the Petrol DCT or AMT. 2. For Delhi NCR, I'd pick the XUV300 AMT as the engine on the XUV300 is the segment best, and the AMT is also better tuned than the ones lower down the price range. Please note that if these discussions were for manuals, I'd choose the XUV over the Sonet anyway as its much safer and the engines are great in the XUV. I hope this helps you with your decision:)
Hi Shashikant, I was referring to the price of the top variant of the diesel in Mumbai. www.carwale.com/mahindra-cars/xuv300/price-in-mumbai/ As of today, that is ~16 lacs for Automatic ~15 lacs for Manual Furthermore, Mahindra had done price corrections to the XUV300 as well. With discounts, the price might be feasible in the state you are in:)
Hi Aditya, The EcoSport is more agile because of its handling. But the engine of the XUV is definitely better, as I said in the review. The XUV is more powerful, refined and feels really strong in the mid range. The best combo for me would be the XUV300 with the handling of the EcoSport.
Hi Prajwal, I haven't driven the AMT XUV300 so can't share my feedback. But from what I have read, it is one of the better tuned AMTs out there and the engines (both petrol and diesel) are so good, they make the AMT feel even better. BTW, getting an XUV300 would be difficult with Mahindra prioritising XUV700's manufacturing.
Just test drove the turbo petrol tgdi. Engine is beast. But handling wasn't as great as you see on youtube reviews. The pickup and all are great but what's the use if you can't fickle it easily while overtaking. Car doesn't offer much confidence while steering on high speeds. I thought it's low ground clearance and longer wheel base will make it feel much stable and planted on highways but it isn't the case. Maruti gives 1.5 NA engine but trust me it might feel less powerful than xuv 300 but overall suspension setup, short gear throw, low clutch travel makes it such a sweet car for city. Xuv is made for the highways or express ways but not regular city traffic.
Hi, Unfortunately, I haven't driven the petrol so I can't share much. Further, the suspension tuning in the petrol and diesel is also significantly different in the XUV300, so the ride and handling characteristics might differ.
I think, I have started leaning towards the XUV300, and Mahindra should thank you for the honest review. Well done. When are you going to talk about the BOLERO Neo ??
Thanks a ton for your kind words :) I'm trying to get a Bolero Neo for a review. I usually rent cars and review them as I try to cover at least 500-700 kms and spend a few days with the car before I start reviewing. As soon as a car rental company has a Neo, I'll review it first thing :)
Hi Kartikey, Thanks for your question. It's very hard to judge the vehicle I was driving as it was a rental (so a lot of different drivers and abuse) and it was filled with items so it could be them rattling. However, I'd still say the build was quite good. I have driven other rental cars and not all of them age as well as the XUV300 did.
very good review. rather than talking about the all the technical specifiation that could get from the brochure, you talked about experience on the road. can you do a comparison review in the similar line on XUV300 and Bolero Neo. Especially the experience on the medium rough roads, and what would be the safe speed for both these cars.
Just go for w6 disle amt . I have owned it. On road in pune at 12:50 lacks. No voice. No lage. More space. Don't put brezza or venue in comparison. Perfect. For family.
Hi, The Kia Seltos is also really good in this department. It loses out a bit because it's steering isn't as feel some but it gains back in its stability due to the longer wheelbase. You can see my detailed review here: th-cam.com/video/sty3V5VVbGs/w-d-xo.html

Hi, Thanks for the appreciation and the question 😃. I am pasting my answer from a similar question in comments: I had actually recorded this part but edited it out. For me, an ideal machine would be the one with the EcoSport's handling & chassis and the engine of the XUV300. This combination would have been possible if Mahindra - Ford Joint Venture went through. Unfortunately, it didn't! I know this is not the best answer, which is why I edited it out :)
Overall good review. However, you didn't mention 5 star adult and 4 star child GNCAP safety rating, which is best in the segment. You should have compared this with rivals so that buyers can consider this major factor while buying a car.

Hi Govindan, Tata Punch would have been comparable to the XUV300 if they got the Turbo engine. If I were choosing between the two (top variant of Punch vs base variant of XUV), I'd get the XUV eyes closed. I have driven the Revotron 1.2, and the 1.2 Turbo. Both can't hold a candle to the XUV 1.2 Petrol. I hope this helps:)
By default, if an engine has turbo, it'll have turbo lag:) The question is how well is it controlled. And I felt the tuning of the XUV300 is on point. It is very predictable and the turbo starts spooling quite early.
@@road_not_taken I meant to say that turbo lag is not that much of noticeable. One more point I don't agree with you is that while driving it gives feeling of hatchback! No it's not at any point feels hatchback in case of venue yes it does feel like hatchback. But in case of xuv you do have whole Bonet view and yup definitely no hatchback feel. And I think the price is not that much as you've mentioned w8 diesel costs me 11.80 lacs. From Gujarat btw. But this one is quite nice review.
@@s7878prajapati Thanks bro. I am also from Gujarat BTW (Kutch) :) I agree about the hatchback POV. I would rate the compact SUVs as follows from hatch -> SUV feel: Venue > XUV300 = Nexon (slightly more)> EcoSport. However, the EcoSport also feels a bit top heavy because of this at times.
Just took a test drive, and you are spot-on with most of the observations - and i hate the beige on the top-end - going to suffer it! Can't live with a Hyundai, and this seems best option among everything! Still have concerns, but forced to buy this after driving an ecosport diesel for 5 years, because Ford is exiting. The power is amazing, but the feedback is pathetic in comparison with ecosport - but hoping this would fit in right-on for me now - intending to slow-down for the family cruises now. :) Ecosport breezes through without any shaky feel at 160 for regular curves and you feel the confidence, but this doesn't seem to match that - weight might be a thing too! I don't generally comment on youtube - but had to do after watching your review fully without skipping a piece! :) Great review and great video - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your kind words! I am glad you liked it, and I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts here:) If I may, I'd like to suggest you something as a fellow enthusiast. I think you might like the XUV300 for a few months but you will not enjoy it after 6-8 months as it would not be a significant upgrade over the EcoSport. I'd recommend that you test drive these vehicles and then choose whichever suits you the best: 1. Taigun 1.5 GT (Manual): I think this is an upgrade over the EcoSport in terms of ride and handling balance. It'll suit your driving. 2. If you want a diesel, consider a used Compass. You should try one with 17" wheels, that feels much more connected. Also regarding the price. I got the top model w8 optional, diesal, for 13.6l onroad with 5 years extended warranty and 20k in accessories.
it's not overpriced at all. W8 optional automatic diesel: 13.4 lakh. It is the top variant. Just tell me the prices of the top variants of ecosport, kia sonet, tara nexon. All these cars's top variant are little bit more expensive then xuv300. Pls ..u should check price from dealers not from online portals. May ne market research kar k kharidi hy mere bhai.. aap ky kharide ho? U should mention the correct price. It's not 16 L it's 13L actually. Go and correct it pls. At the end price is everything that matters
Thanks for the feedback bro. Two things: 1. I have mentioned the prices were at the time of the review. Mahindra has been offering great discounts since then. 2. Online portals are easier and uniform, dealership prices vary in the same city itself. But feedback taken, I'll mention the assumptions in the prices as well next time:)
Don't worry too much. The XUV300 is a great car. I have highlighted the subtle differences with the competitors. Only areas you should think about are: 1. Handling is not as good as the Ford but honestly, good enough. Unless you drive very hard it should be fine. 2. Mahindra might not have the next gen XUV300 soon, so resale might drop once it is discontinued (this is only a rumour). But if you hold on to cars for more than 5 years, it shouldn't be an issue. Mahindra will have the spares. All the best:)
Love your review... Totally agreed... Xuv300 is a perfect family car and Ecosport is for enthusiastic drivers. Totally depends on your use case. No other stands in the competition.
@@jatinarora97 Thanks for the compliment bro! And I also agree W8(O) is the one to go for. However, in my opinion, between the W8 and the Creta/Seltos, I'd prefer the Koreans for the diesels. I honestly haven't driven the NA Hyundai petrol to compare them, but I'd also lean towards the 1.2 turbo over the 1.5 CVT for sure.:)
@@road_not_taken I'm not sure about Creta, but Venue DCT in petrol is much more inferior than Xuv300 AMT. Venue DCT is super laggy and in the initial acceleration, it feels like engine is really struggling to move the car forward although afterwards its really good. But XUV from the starting brings smile on your face.
Right now, I'm looking to buy a decent car under 14lkh for my parents. Automatic is priority. Earlier thought of going with Ecosport but now after Ford's exit, shifted my interest towards Xuv. Do you think its the right choice? PS- Creta automatic is super expensive. :(
@@jatinarora97 Definitely! My only suggestion would be to take a long test drive before you take the plunge. Also, speak to a few XUV AMT owners. It's tuned very well, but some folks find hard adjusting to an AMT. I, personally, feel AMT is great when you are shifting manually.
Xuv 300 is not that sporty... Hahaha 😂 that's why India's best rally driver(gaurav gill) uses it in the rallies. Ecco sport ka promotion karne aaya yeh banda😅
Xuv300 is no doubt a great car and certainly not as bad as this review might make it sound due to the comparison with ecosport but, to be fair to your comment, no one in rallies use it in stock form. They have completely different tuning or parts. Even the previous gen i20 was used for rallies outside India and we all know how that handled
@@suryavamsy actually the comment which I made was before owning xuv 300 (diesel) and now I have the xuv 300 and driving the car since 2 months. I genuinely think the guy had made very fine and pinpoint observation about the car. Great car but everything he said is absolutely right I must say.

Best words I heard today! Thanks a ton for your kind words. Comments like these are what keep me going 🙏. On my favourite machine: I had actually recorded this part but edited it out. For me, an ideal machine would be the one with the EcoSport's handling & chassis and the engine of the XUV300. This combination would have been possible if Mahindra - Ford JV went through. Unfortunately, it didn't! I know this is not the best answer, which is why I edited it out :) Thanks again for your words!
@@zudabenhur Hi, Thanks for your question. Unfortunately I haven't driven the petrol so I can't comment on it. What I can share though is the clutch on the diesel is light enough. Shouldn't be a pain, but Bangalore traffic is difficult for sure. Are you looking at the Petrol manual or AMT?
@@zudabenhur From what I have heard, the petrol engine is also amazing. So whichever version you buy, you'll be happy. Only decision you have to make is, will you be able to recover the additional lakh in running costs in diesel? If yes, go for it. I have also heard that the AMT in XUV is very well tuned, but at this price point, a torque converter would have been ideal. Either ways, you'll get a very competitive machine in the XUV300. Last thing to consider, some rumours suggest that XUV300 will be discontinued in 3-4 years (This isn't confirmed though): www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/235475-mahindra-confirms-xuv700-positioned-above-xuv500-10.html#post5065969 It might affect resale in the short term, but if you keep your cars for long, it shouldn't be an issue. Mahindra does maintain spares for a decent time.
Only boot space is more in Creta. Rest all space and comfort are more in Xuv300. You will get that Korean fancy interior in creta but you will never get the safety that provides with Xuv300. Mind it.
Good review but I have my reservation for some of your findings 1 - At high speed I feel Venue's engine makes more noise and Xuv feels much more stable and more calm 2 - In handling I think it is at par with EcoSport and alot better than any other compact suvs anyday 3 - that opening in the arm rest is there so that you can easily put your mobile or wallet or anything in the box without opening it and when you stop just open the box and pull your things out Lastly You didn't mention the main reason You drove W4 variant which comes with 16" tyres and W8 comes with 17" ( same size as that with Harrier ) and it makes a hell lot of difference in driving experience ( just take a test ride and you will feel it for sure ) One more thing - I bought w8(0) diesel at 13 lakhs on road and discounts are always there so in no way it will go upto 16 lakhs on road ( you highly exaggerated it ) I think you have to shell out 14 lakhs for diesel top manual and for that price it is a beast
Hi Sudhanshu, Thanks for the detailed comment and sharing your observations! Really appreciate it :) Here are my thoughts: 1. High speed engine noise: My observations were different but it's okay. I drove the W4 XUV and the Venue SX. 2. Handling: I'd say the EcoSport handles better. The 17" rims do make a difference, but I have driven the base EcoSport as well and it still is a better handler. The XUV, however, rides much better. 3. Thanks for sharing this. I did't know this one:) Lastly, XUV has great discounts and I mentioned it on the video. My reference was the price of XUV300 in Mumbai (Diesel Auto @ Carwale).
@@road_not_taken yes you said it right then EcoSport is better at stering feedback But I chose Xuv bcoz of overall comfort And all the other reasons you explained so well This is deep observation of yours which is correct in many aspects baring some which I mentioned And there are alot more features in higher variants such as ESP which keeps the car very much stable and increases the overall experience of driving But I will insist you to drive W8 Xuv once and give us a second thought Overall all the very best for your future on TH-cam and I really like to watch these kinds of review from a normal person and what he feels not the most reviews by biased big automobile channels And Yeah ' The road not taken ' is one of the classic poems of all time ❤️

@@road_not_taken which is the best drivers car in this segment?
Hi @@vasanthsandeep ,
In my opinion, CSUVs will always be a notch below sedans and hatchbacks for being the perfect driver's car.
@@road_not_taken thank u for your reply can u please suggest pleasure to drive car in sedan, I will compromise in comfort
Definitely. I feel XUV300 is much stable than Nexon / Venue
Hi (clever name btw),
I know the things that we look for in our cars can be different even while judging the same parameter.

I haven't tried the wanderers from MRF because I moved away from them a few years ago after a very bad experience in my Dad's Ikon. However, the newer MRFs are much better from what I have heard.

What would be your opinion about xuv300 now as we all know that Ford ecosport is no more an option.?? What can be the best alternative in c-suv ?? I think undoubtedly xuv300 in diesel.
Agree, it's the best option now in this segment. The Venue and Sonet are unsafe and cramped, and I wouldn't recommend the Brezza.

I believe the answer depends on your ownership duration. If you plan to own the vehicle for 5-7 years, the EcoSport is a great buy at 6-7 lacs for the Diesel Facelift. You'll spend almost half the money (compared to a new XUV300) and you can sell it back at ~3 lacs.

Hi Piyush,
That's a big decision! Can you also tell us a bit about your use case?
1. City vs Highway
2. How many adults/children travel together
3. Are you more interested in comfort or great handling?
@@road_not_taken it's our first car and four members in family 30% city 70% highway need an overall car for family.
@@piyushsingh7855 Hi,
For your use case, I'd suggest the mid spec Creta over the W8 XUV300 because of the following reasons:
1. Space: The Creta is a bigger, more mature machine and your family will appreciate more space in the back (rear seats and boot).
2. Ride and Handling: The XUV300 is a great package but the Creta does all of that better as its a segment above
3. Features: Even the mid spec Creta will get most of the features as the XUV300 and you won't feel short-changed.
4. Newness of product: The Creta is a much newer product, so it will stay relevant and fetch better resale when you plan to sell it.
The reasons to buy the XUV300 would be:

Hi@@chandannaidu96 ,
Thanks for your question. I were in your shoes, here's how I'd think:
I'd suggest you to try used cars:
1. Tata Harrier: I have recently driven it and I loved it but Tata's after sales scare me: th-cam.com/video/VtOzvCwbZPU/w-d-xo.html
2. Used BMW 320d: Amazing machine and you'd get a good one for your budget.
3. Ford Endeavour: If Ford leaves India, the prices of used Endeavours will drop and I'll pick one up definitely.
I hope this helps:)

Hi @@Soldymm ,
Among these cars, the first one I'd let go is the Astor.

Hi Debabrata,
I feel that the XUV300 petrol is a better buy than Nexon if you look at the overall package.
@@road_not_taken ya I think renting the cars is a good idea
Please suggest between Nexon xz+ and xuv 300 w8. Considering safety and comfort which is better.
In my opinion, the XUV300 is better for both Safety and comfort as:
Safety: Nexon gets a 4 star NCAP rating and 2 airbags even in top trims.
Hi @@sakthivel-kg7mb,
I personally feel that the bump for the W8(O) is worth it because the additional ~1 lakh gives you:
1. 5 more airbags (Critical)
2. ESP (Critical)
3. Hill start assist (Good to have)
4. TPMS (Good to have)
5. Auto dimming IRVM (Good to have)
6. Front parking sensors (Good to have)
7. 2nd row seat belt reminder (Not necessary)
8. Bungee straps (Not necessary)
Overall, given the critical and good to have features, I feel the premium is worth it. If you can stretch a bit, or ask Mahindra to negotiate a bit, it's worth it.

Hi Joydeep,
I haven't driven the Sonet, but have driven the Venue.

U should definitely go for xuv3oo
Clear review ,and well explained ,thank you !
Thanks a lot for your kind words, Satish:)
Now with Ford India gone I wonder what his judgement will be now.
omg bang onn....
Well said.
Also, he said creta or seltos are suv of a segment above but a person who is going for xuv300 is likely going for its power, torque and safety which are below par in seltos/Creta in petrol engines ( Gt line are way costly)
Lol.....xuv 300 is not even in top 20 selling cars list of 2021!!!
Fun to drive car.. driving pleasure...the best one is - xuv 300 Diesel, creta Diesel, seltos Diesel, Honda City Diesel..or any other car in the segment .. please suggest
Hi Omkaar,
I feel the Honda City can't be compared to the SUVs because a sedan will always have a better handling. I haven't driven the diesel variants of Seltos/Creta so I'm not the best judge. But I am driving them next week :) Overall, my rating would be:
1. Honda City
2. XUV300
Seltos/Creta diesel (haven't driven, driving them next week)
I hope this helps.
Is the boot so small as projected?
Boot space should not be judged on litres, but on shape. There are cars which are big in litres capacity but when you put in luggage you'll realise that Only one big suitcase and 2 small bags would fit. In xuv 300 you can easily manage 2 big suitcase and one medium sized suitcase. Just place them vertically.
It's too small for this size of the car trust me.
@@shreeramhegade9008 yes its impractical
@@Raveendhana But if you don't care about luggage too much, it's worth it. Performance and comfort oriented car. Don't expect the milage more than 13 kmpl as well

Very good review , very practical, straight no nonsense. Totally different from other reviews.
Nice and practical review. Thank you 🙏
Could you suggest Nexon or XUV 300 or WRV
Hi,
I haven't driven the WRV, so I can't comment on it.

Hi,
You live in one of the most beautiful places in India! I rented this car from MyChoize. I do not own this car :)
Thanks for your kind words :) I agree with you, a good mechanically sound car is much harder to find than a car with a lot of features.
Excellent and very useful contents.
want a favour here.
which would be best buy between kia sonet htx petrol dct and xuv 300 amt w8 ? i have mostly city drive occasionally outings on weekends.
thanks in advance.
Hi Nikhil,
Interesting choices. The Sonet has the better gearbox, while the XUV is safer and more spacious. Here is how I would think:
Thanks a lot for nice n prompt reply
Great review man! Totally enjoyed it!
Thanks a ton bro! Glad to hear this:)
which part of the country it costs 16 lakhs?? because i bought it for 13.6 lakhs on road. opt model
Hi Shashikant,
I was referring to the price of the top variant of the diesel in Mumbai. www.carwale.com/mahindra-cars/xuv300/price-in-mumbai/
As of today, that is
~16 lacs for Automatic
~15 lacs for Manual
Furthermore, Mahindra had done price corrections to the XUV300 as well.
With discounts, the price might be feasible in the state you are in:)
Hi! Just wanted a feedback from you on S-cross...
Hi Chandan,
Unfortunately, I haven't driven the S-Cross. I won't be of much help here. But post your query, maybe someone else can respond.
How you saying eco spprt is more peppy when XUV300 has more Torque and BHP
Hi Aditya,
The EcoSport is more agile because of its handling. But the engine of the XUV is definitely better, as I said in the review. The XUV is more powerful, refined and feels really strong in the mid range.
The best combo for me would be the XUV300 with the handling of the EcoSport.
It is one of the most sensible reviews out there. Keep up the good work. Subscribed.
Thanks a lot for your kind words bro :)
Is AMT of XUV300 is laggy???
Hi Prajwal,
I haven't driven the AMT XUV300 so can't share my feedback.
What about Petrol Machine ?
Hi,
Unfortunately, I haven't driven the petrol so I can't share much. Further, the suspension tuning in the petrol and diesel is also significantly different in the XUV300, so the ride and handling characteristics might differ.
@@road_not_taken Ok, thanks for the response
I think, I have started leaning towards the XUV300, and Mahindra should thank you for the honest review. Well done. When are you going to talk about the BOLERO Neo ??
Thanks a ton for your kind words :) I'm trying to get a Bolero Neo for a review. I usually rent cars and review them as I try to cover at least 500-700 kms and spend a few days with the car before I start reviewing.
As soon as a car rental company has a Neo, I'll review it first thing :)
When you see a guy with pockets of hair popping out - you see a real person. Honest review ! Kudos.
is there any rattling sound?
Hi Kartikey,
Thanks for your question. It's very hard to judge the vehicle I was driving as it was a rental (so a lot of different drivers and abuse) and it was filled with items so it could be them rattling.
However, I'd still say the build was quite good. I have driven other rental cars and not all of them age as well as the XUV300 did.
@@road_not_taken oh! Okey sir 😊

very good review. rather than talking about the all the technical specifiation that could get from the brochure, you talked about experience on the road.
can you do a comparison review in the similar line on XUV300 and Bolero Neo. Especially the experience on the medium rough roads, and what would be the safe speed for both these cars.

Hi,
The Kia Seltos is also really good in this department. It loses out a bit because it's steering isn't as feel some but it gains back in its stability due to the longer wheelbase. You can see my detailed review here: th-cam.com/video/sty3V5VVbGs/w-d-xo.html

Overall good review. However, you didn't mention 5 star adult and 4 star child GNCAP safety rating, which is best in the segment. You should have compared this with rivals so that buyers can consider this major factor while buying a car.
i am about to buy xuv300 w8 turbo petrol. what would you say ? is it good
Hi Chakresh,
Thanks for your question. Pasting my response from another comment.
Unfortunately, I haven't driven the petrol XUV300. But what I can share is:
1. A lot of reviews say that the 1.2 litre turbo petrol is among the best in class.
2. The pricing of the base petrol XUV300 is very competitive, especially with the discounts on offer.
3. The suspension tuning of the petrol is noticeably different from the diesel (I've read this from multiple sources). So please do test drive the petrol, your experience could be very different than what I shared.
4. I also read a post by someone that Mahindra might discontinue XUV300 after a few years: www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/235475-mahindra-confirms-xuv700-positioned-above-xuv500-10.html#post5065969. This isn't verified though and you shouldn't worry too much if you plan to keep the car for 5-10 years. Mahindra should have the parts, it's the resale that will go down, if it happens.
I hope this helps!

Hi Govindan,
Tata Punch would have been comparable to the XUV300 if they got the Turbo engine.
Turbo lag seriously? Xuv 300 diesel I didn't find any turbo lag.
Ecosport breezes through without any shaky feel at 160 for regular curves and you feel the confidence, but this doesn't seem to match that - weight might be a thing too!
I don't generally comment on youtube - but had to do after watching your review fully without skipping a piece! :)
Great review and great video - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your kind words! I am glad you liked it, and I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts here:)
If I may, I'd like to suggest you something as a fellow enthusiast. I think you might like the XUV300 for a few months but you will not enjoy it after 6-8 months as it would not be a significant upgrade over the EcoSport. I'd recommend that you test drive these vehicles and then choose whichever suits you the best:
1. Taigun 1.5 GT (Manual): I think this is an upgrade over the EcoSport in terms of ride and handling balance. It'll suit your driving.
2. If you want a diesel, consider a used Compass. I recently saw a 2018 Limited (O) with
XUV's power ❣

2. Online portals are easier and uniform, dealership prices vary in the same city itself.

1 year ho gaya.. xuv3oo is a great car. U should go for it
Don't worry too much. The XUV300 is a great car. I have highlighted the subtle differences with the competitors. Only areas you should think about are:

@@jatinarora97 Thanks for the compliment bro! And I also agree W8(O) is the one to go for. However, in my opinion, between the W8 and the Creta/Seltos, I'd prefer the Koreans for the diesels.

@@road_not_taken I'm not sure about Creta, but Venue DCT in petrol is much more inferior than Xuv300 AMT. Venue DCT is super laggy and in the initial acceleration, it feels like engine is really struggling to move the car forward although afterwards its really good.

@@road_not_taken How would you fare this with the petrol 1.2? Which engine would you recommend for Bangalore traffic? 70% city and 30% highway
@@zudabenhur
Hi,
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately I haven't driven the petrol so I can't comment on it. What I can share though is the clutch on the diesel is light enough. Shouldn't be a pain, but Bangalore traffic is difficult for sure.
Are you looking at the Petrol manual or AMT?
@@road_not_taken prefer petrol manual... Not sure about amt. But everyone is going ga ga over the diesel engine over petrol, so confused
Last thing to consider, some rumours suggest that XUV300 will be discontinued in 3-4 years (This isn't confirmed though): www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/235475-mahindra-confirms-xuv700-positioned-above-xuv500-10.html#post5065969
It might affect resale in the short term, but if you keep your cars for long, it shouldn't be an issue. Mahindra does maintain spares for a decent time.
Only boot space is more in Creta. Rest all space and comfort are more in Xuv300. You will get that Korean fancy interior in creta but you will never get the safety that provides with Xuv300. Mind it.
Agree, which is why I said that the key reason to buy the XUV300 over the Creta is safety. But the Creta feels a segment above for sure.
Good review but I have my reservation for some of your findings
1 - At high speed I feel Venue's engine makes more noise and Xuv feels much more stable and more calm
2 - In handling I think it is at par with EcoSport and alot better than any other compact suvs anyday
3 - that opening in the arm rest is there so that you can easily put your mobile or wallet or anything in the box without opening it and when you stop just open the box and pull your things out
Lastly
You didn't mention the main reason
You drove W4 variant which comes with 16" tyres and W8 comes with 17" ( same size as that with Harrier ) and it makes a hell lot of difference in driving experience ( just take a test ride and you will feel it for sure )
One more thing - I bought w8(0) diesel at 13 lakhs on road and discounts are always there so in no way it will go upto 16 lakhs on road ( you highly exaggerated it )
I think you have to shell out 14 lakhs for diesel top manual and for that price it is a beast
Hi Sudhanshu,
Thanks for the detailed comment and sharing your observations! Really appreciate it :) Here are my thoughts:
I did't know this one:)
Lastly, XUV has great discounts and I mentioned it on the video. My reference was the price of XUV300 in Mumbai (Diesel Auto @ Carwale).
@@road_not_taken yes you said it right then

This is deep observation of yours which is correct in many aspects baring some which I mentioned
And there are alot more features in higher variants such as ESP which keeps the car very much stable and increases the overall experience of driving
But I will insist you to drive W8 Xuv once and give us a second thought
Overall all the very best for your future on TH-cam and I really like to watch these kinds of review from a normal person and what he feels not the most reviews by biased big automobile channels
And Yeah ' The road not taken ' is one of the classic poems of all time ❤️
@@sudhanshu209 Haha, thanks a lot Sudhanshu for your kind words and detailed observations. I'll definitely try to get my hands on the W8 XUV300 and update my thoughts here.
Thanks again and stay safe:)
@activa 125 I think both will give you same mileage in petrol as well as diesel
I think you should go with the diesel...as in bumper to bumper you can get around 14-15 kmpl in XUV 300 ( personal experience)
And diesel is just 40k more expensive but you will be tension free with diesel in running cost
@@sudhanshu209 But do diesel cars have a future? Any idea? I mean Delhi has introduced 10yr diesel vehicle scrappage policy. Media says GoI will carry out real-time emission testing of diesel cars in 2023. VW group has discontinued diesel cars.
