I remember plodding around the Solent and the south coast for 7 months in Winter on a damp 34'er when doing my Oceanmasters... can't say I miss it!
Spent most of my days after that as Chief engineer on a 112' Swan in the Med.
Well done Sam. The Solent is always a busy place. On a nice sunny weekend it’s barely organised chaos with boats everywhere going in every direction, with cargo ships, ferries, hovercrafts and the odd naval ship thrown in.
I'm dumb. That was a replica of the original Golden Hind right?
“Houle de la Manche” as the French call it. The famous “Channel Chop”. It puts the heebeegeebees up many a sailor, rolling waves for hundreds of miles and then the shallow choppy English Channel. Well done Sam, it’s been great to see your progress. Thanks for sharing!

I'm enjoying browsing through your videos having just completed my own UK circumnavigation this year on a similar sized boat, a Corribee 21. I went anticlockwise over 3 months. Had a few similar outboard issues, blocked jets etc, often at the worst moment. Also have a Hebridean wind vane which worked really well for me. I managed to get one of the remote adjustment kits which made using and adjusting it more straightforward. It looks like you leave yours in the water all the time, can't you tilt it up when not in use?

Really interesting episode Sam. Have to say you have me interested in the Hebridean for my own boat, 29ft Westerly Konsort. I also have an autopilot but like you can't stand the noise it makes!

But seriously... How long do your outboards live for.. In hours and years?..
I have just bought a new 15hp Mercury from Seamark Nun..
I've had a 6hp tohatsu outboard for the past four years. No issues so far apart from some paint flaking from the sea water, easily cleaned and repainted. I think the prop needs changing every 3-4 years or so. The thrust bearing can become pretty worn awayndepending how you use it. Thanks for watching.

@@stevenwatsham5973 an inaccurate weather forcast left me with nil wind crossing over from belgium, the tohatsu carried me on to Uk for 13 whole hours and didn't miss a beat
How was the night? Did you try and get your head down or just stay up?
Yes i found during the early hours of morning I was napping about 15-20mins at a time, checking out and then back down. The first few naps were more like shut eyes only but after about three 20 minute sessions you do start to go to sleep. Guess everyone is different though.
