  • In this video I tackle Tamiya's 1/32 Birdcage Corsair. A beautiful kit to build with no fuss. I also used EagleCal decals for the Fleet Air Arm markings and an Eduard Look! cockpit panel.
    If it seems like something is missing, you are right. I lost the source files for the decal application and weathering.

    I can see from your video’s outset that you certainly have excellent technique. I would like to have seen from the beginning all your efforts, though. Anticipating your greater skill, expertise, and experience that all this indicates (which is why I visit your channel), I especially would appreciate hearing your account of your work as we viewers observe and learn.

      Thanks David. I revisited this kit two years ago as a series with more detail. Definitely check that one out

    What a great job you've done. Love the British camo and insig.. Thanks to the Brits for proving this bird in carrier service as our Navy passed on it and allocated it to the Marines as strictly ground based. Your cockpit is really nice. I learned something which was to use little tap rolls to elevate the mask to eliminate a sharp line between colors. I usually let the mask float but not any more. A big thanks.

    • @DavidRLentz
      @DavidRLentz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clarification: "tap rolls" actually is "tape rolls". That is, a small loop of tape to raise a few millimetres the edge of the tape masking to give a soft edge to the camouflage scheme.

      Re-looking at this, I am so impressed with this look, what a beautiful job.

    So glad I came across your channel....such brilliant work....super details, techniques and tips. Always glad when watching the whole building story taking place rather than listening to someone who has already built and they are just talking about it. I know you comment but it's so historically interesting and you are building while explaining....great stuff and I'll be watching more of your builds.

    I'm a big fan of US Navy WWII aircraft but seeing a Corsair in this camo version was AWESOME!!! Great build, I love your technique and the finished product is excellent to say the least!!! I love this build in 1/32 scale, it gives you a bigger canvas to execute your craft!!! Great job all the way around!!!!

    • @TheModelGuy
      @TheModelGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! This kit was picked up for very cheap and it's unlikely I'll be doing a other 1/32 for a bit. But if you like US Navy builds I do have a pair of Hellcats and an Avenger in the stash

    • @GryphonArmorer
      @GryphonArmorer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, except I like all WWII aircraft. I'm pretty sure that the F-4U was predominantly a Marine Corps fighter/attack aircraft. I could be wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time. However, I do know that the Navy never painted aircraft in any "true" camouflage, especially green. But still I agree it looks cool. But, leave it to the Brits to mix green and blue for camo.

      The Royal Navy used the F4U over the North Sea and surrounding "muck" coloured waters unlike the pristine blue waters of the Pacific that the USN operated in. Hence the muted green slime-gray camo. Looks attractive on other American aircraft that the RN used, like the TBF.

    Same precise fit as the Spitfire family. FAA Corsairs had "clipped wings" but just under a foot on each side, are those supplied in the kit, did you do surgery or just OoB? Looks good, people often forget the securing struts, you nailed it.

    • @TheModelGuy
      @TheModelGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback! This Corsair was based in Florida and used for training. It didn't serve aboard ship so the wings were not clipped. It ended up crashing and was found in the 80s underwater.

    Baffles me why Tamiya made these airplane models 1/32 when their other military line up is 1/35. It's not much difference, but it still bothered me. BTW--great job mate.

    • @TheModelGuy
      @TheModelGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's just because those are standard scales for two different genres of models. I'd like to see armor in 1/32 but at least Academy tried something different with their 1/35 Cobra

      @@TheModelGuy , I thought this is a Sikorsky UH-64 "Blackhawk" U.S. Army Helicopter.
      Another company also made a 1:35th-scale kit of the Boeing-Vertol C-47 "Chinook" U.S. Army Medium Airlift Helicopter. A third made a kit in this scale of the Hughes AH-64D Apache Longbow
      U.S. Army Attack Helicopter.
