17 years ago. Today his parents would be accused of child abuse for letting him work and the insurance company would have a hissy fit about him moving cars in and out of the garage.

This is a reflection of how I grew up. And we need more of this in America where you can take and apply what you learn in the classroom to the real world. And you cannot teach work ethics in a classroom, you need to be in the real world.

There is a 9 year old in Joseph City, AZ who can run backhoes, dozers and any other heavy equipment better than most adults. I watched him dig a water line with a backhoe to the exact depth on the first try.

@@MaryB-ps8lg That's what happens when you let them go at 3 or 4 yo. Don't tell them what to learn, let them tell you what they what to learn. I was talking about my Grandson in N. Tx. At 5 he could run a excavator, a D6 with the best of them. At 23 he runs the shop & anything else at his fathers company.

Service work never gets old. I started as a car mechanic and then went on to computers in the 80's... Retired now, but will always be grateful for the thousands of "Thank You's" from customers over the years. That young man has a good life ahead of him...

That reminds me of my best friend when I was growing up.
His uncle and father were mechanics and they had him working on cars about the same age as this young man.

With families like this there is hope for the future. When I was a kid in the 60's, my cousins and I worked the summers on our family land surveying crews in central Florida. The main perk for us was getting to drive 4-wheel drive trucks off road but the money we earned was good too. I would like to see a follow-up story on this kid.

Reminds me of my now 21 year old nephew he's been working on cars since he was little he would sit in his baby seat and name cars just by the logo on the grill his favorite car brand is Chevy just like his dad. If it has an engine he can fix it.
