Just got this grill delivered yesterday. I wanted something smaller so I'm not always using the offset. I already had LavaLock gasket and high temp silicone on hand. Sealed up around the thermometer (many places for smoke and heat to escape), pulled off the "Expert" decal and siliconed it and tightened it back on. The gap for the ash pan is eliminated as well. Planning on using it this weekend. I'm expecting it should perform quite nicely. For $100 and 10 mins of extra work, well worth it. Thanks for the ideas!

you can cut a stick of 2x4 to jam up under the ash catcher to hold it tight against the grill, that will solve your air leak. and you can flip the top rack brackets upside down then shave off bolts where they stick through and it will let the top rack sit a little lower in the grill just like the Webber so your hotdogs can't role off the rack. i got one today and love the extra depth of the grill because sometimes i like to burn small hard wood logs. only thing is my lid does not fit as snug and secure as a Webber does. and im not sure if this enamel coating is as good as Webber uses. guess time will tell. i could not find many videos on this grill but i took a chance, i only had 100 dollars to spend and all the 22 inch Webbers are above that price range. Thanks for your great videos!
Picked up a weber premium kettle 22" @ target last night for $40 on display. Was having all sorts of questions about which grill I should get... glad you posted your video.
Just bought this today. I’ve owned a Weber kettle in the past. I went to Walmart this morning to buy another one, and I saw this. For $96, it seems like a pretty solid grill. Definitely comparable to the Weber in terms of how quality the build feels. Time will tell how it holds up.
That's one heck of a mod.. Love it..! I like using fire rings in my kettles.. I'm normally HnF but can do LnS no problem. I'm thinking with your set up you shouldn't have a problem saving the coals as long as the bottom seal holds up. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see some cooks on this bad dog. Thx

Should I spend the extra money on a Weber premium or just get this grill? It’s a $70 difference. I grill maybe 10 times per year and don’t do anything hard core. Just burgers, hot dogs, occasionally some ribs and chicken. Nothing that requires too much heat control
TheDavePhan Then your probably better off getting the Expert grill, However check EBay for some really good deals on Weber Kettles. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
MeatCranium BBQ AND REVIEW I dunno why but I don’t want to buy a used grill. Is the expert grill holding up good to the heat and rust? I’ve had cheaper grills have the paint peel off etc.
@@thedavephan I purchased the expert grill about 3 or 4 months ago and it is performing very well. I will also mention that I have not even purchased a cover for tbis grill and it is holding up well as far as the paint, that being said I do live in Georgia which different regions may not fair as well.
Hey Meathead! Great review on that kettle! I think I know a guy who can make a heat deflector mod for that handle ! I like the felt on the ash basket ! Looks like a very good grill to learn on for someone who’s not looking to spend the extra $ on a Weber !
Daddy Dutch BBQ I would love to get something made up for that handle, let me know. My Opinion, A person would be better getting a Weber Kettle and getting a 10year warranty, vs a 1 year warranty with this one. This Expert Grill Though is solid, and would definitely be a nice compliment to anybody’s lineup. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
In my opinion you can do a lot of good grilling with this grill. I don't consider doing minor mods and improvements a big deal as its all part of the hobby. I still like my basic Weber and have my own mods for them as well. I think I will pick up an Expert and give it a try. Thanks for showing us the Expert Grill.
Kevin N I’m glad I could help. Mods are fun and keep the mind active. This is a solid grill and I will be put it to the test. I would suggest closing the gap on the ash collector though. Thanks for the support and watching Brother

Cool video man! I can understand some going with this grill but with the seasoning portion (no air tight seal on vent or thermometer) I would definitely steer toward the Weber kettle silver (same price point). Nice mods, one possible suggestion - on the charcoal ring, drill a few holes in the sides and then you can take a pizza pan and place it directly on top to create a heat diffuser (a la the Weber Master Touch 2019 European model - thing looks sick!). Other than that, enjoyed the content of your video as well as the comparison video!
W3dge 11 man I sure do appreciate strong comments and this was one. I’m going to tighten up the temp probe, and I’m still considering drilling holes in the side of the ring. The full coverage Grill Stone sort of does the same thing, I will find out soon enough. Ribs will probably be my first cook. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
@@meatcranium4280 no problem dude, you know you may not have to drill holes based on the air intake at the bottom. I forgot that the it's not just small vent holes down there. May be worth a try before drilling the holes in the ring after all, can't undo it once you drill!

Lasse's Food and Barbecue I have been wanting to do that stone mod now for awhile. That ring is out of my BARREL HOUSE COOKER. Check EBay, there are a lot of companies that make them. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
You sir are a genius!
Fernando Pineda Not really, just having fun but thanks. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
That was a mean stone mod. I'll save my broken stone for some modding down the road. Still waiting on a good stone. Not sure what the problem is. Nice mods on the air leaks and use of the ring.
BBQ DRAGON is packing them in the differently in boxes now. I think they may be working on a stronger formula now. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Looks like some great mods so far. Have you considered a heat shield mod for that handle?
Big_B_Views No not yet. I will brain storm. I may just stick with High heat Gloves for now. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Keep it up bud!!!
Hope all is well.
priamopichardo All good herd thanks
Huh barrel house wants 80 for a ss base. Cool video! I was impressed with charcoal to cook grate clearance on these when I looked at them.
shortyque55 this is the regular ring that I punched the grate out of. There are after market ones for cheap on EBay and Amazon. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I went to order the master touch 22" and started reading reviews was lots of complaints about the metal being thinner then used to be. And legs not made as good. Several people said lid didnt get a seal anymore cause was much lighter.
Wanting to make a good purchase decision. Thoughts?
Found it. Awesome video
would you recommend this over a Weber to use as a secondary grill ?
Barry Williams as a secondary 🤔 Yes. A main one no. Weber seems much better. However this has some features I really Like, and now with the Mods,it is a formidable backup. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
You are Dr FrankenGrill. Very cool.
Steve Jensen LOL. Very cool. Thanks a lot for the support and watching
Hi there. I bought one of these grills and put it together and i guess you could say I'm stuck with it. My ash catcher won't stay hooked up. I wanted to try the felt seal you did. What size felt did you use. Thanks from john a nooby subscriber
John Romanowski You could either use the big green egg felt gasket or get one off of eBay for lava lock. Actually both can be bought on EBay. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I gotta give it to You......a hinged grill stone....CLEVER!
Heavy Metal Bar-B-Que this has been my vision for months, and this was the perfect opportunity to do it. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Phil if you watch this save some of your previous delivery's You won't have to buy second stone to make modification. If anyone wants something similar with nice stainless steel grate check out aura outdoor product, kettle zone system. Meat Cranium great mod. What are the dimensions of that fire ring.
John Knapp I don’t think Aura is in operation or making them anymore. The dimensions are 20 3/4in - 21 inches across at the widest part. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
MeatCranium BBQ AND REVIEW There alive and well they sell those at Home Depot there around 100.00 two piece ceramic with nice stainless setup.
The Weber place in Illinois is gigantic. I'd love to tour the place.
O yeah absolutely, that would be amazing.
I keep thinking Weber has the research and while they're not perfect, if you're doing a knock off do it better, fix a few things. Cool review MeatyC! Consumer reports of grilling!
Pickles BBQ Consumer Report can be bought off, I cannot. If they take my recommendations they will have a product that can compete with the bid boys, but I doubt they will. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Looks like around the lid seals pretty well
Enter User Name Here. I think so As well. Thanks for the support and watching
Ahh hell naw . That grill stone mod is genius. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Enter User Name Here. THANKS. I had extra pieces. Why not. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
My handle is fine to grab the whole time I’m cooking. Never had issues
Yea true. Same here. Carpenter hands plus hottest I cook on is about 500-550 for a quick sear. Just got my kettle too. I left gas for mine and love it good video man
Greg Mayo thanks mane
How did that gasket hold up?
Rich Really good. It’s meant for high heat. Thanks for the support and watching
Just picked one of these up at Walmart for literally half the price of a Weber. What do I need to modify the ash bucket like you did. Went to my local hardware store and couldn't find anything similar. Much appreciated. Btw your vids rock
Matthew Rofrano You need A big Green Egg Gasket. You can get them off of EBay or Amazon. Any high heat felt gasket will work. Thanks for the support and watching
11:09 HECK YEAH....... lol
The Gallery Backyard BBQ LOL!! A little Easter Egg.
Yeah this grill looks like one to mod and play with. Kind of shows the years of experience Weber has.
Troy Allen Absolutely. This is the grill to experiment on. Thanks for the support and watching Brother .
I've only used my grill twice but the handle hasn't gotten hot so far.
Cactus Scree as a reviewer, I need to give all angles of possibilities, that can happen. Mine gets awfully hot, however I can with stand pretty high heat with my hands. My wife or son on the other hand, are very tender skinned and during the summer it has the possibility of getting to hot. Thanks for the support and watching.
@@meatcranium4280 I understand and I'm not saying you are wrong. It may be error in manufacturing that changes whether the handle gets hot or not. My grill was sitting at 500°F for about two hours and I was able to hold the lid the whole time I was flipping the meat on my grill.
Cactus Scree Nice
Thank you👊
How was the ash pan?did it smoke?
Backyard Grill Master no. I seen no visible leeks but I discovered a whole new problem. I did a 3 minute live and show another huge design flaw. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Darn, I just ordered a new red Premium 22 from Ace for home delivery. Hope it's made in IL, USA. Nothing against China, I just want to support my local economy and jobs more, especially during these times, when I can.
I have no interest in buying an Expert Grill, I enjoy your videos. Educational, with humor. Keep up the good work.
do a meat stacker video. trompo king
Dave Allison 🤔 Sounds interesting. Thanks for the suggestion and watching
Really? I have mine covered in foil lol. I didn't even think about the oil penetrating the material. I'm making a 19lb brisket as we speak.
Enter User Name Here. Don’t foil. seriously. I can’t believe how much Harder it was. Just scrape the stuff off when your done. They are made to turn black. They work better. I could believe how much harder it was when I started cutting into it. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
It’s actually not supposed to have that gaping hole I’m sitting here looking at mine while the coals get hot now
Lang Goolsby mine is a gen 1, they may have corrected it. Bad publicity gets changes. Good to know. Thanks for the support and watching.
Sorry in my opinion- you can’t beat // or even duplicate// a Weber kettle. I new they had the limited edition Red kettles made overseas but I was pretty sure the rest were still produced here in the States- thanks for clarifying that.
Louis at R shack BBQ there one factory on hicks rd palatine. I use to pickup there.
Great Big warehouse and Distribution in Huntley Il. I asked then about Red Kettle they claimed they could not make that color in USA. Im curios why the Mastertouch with fire ring and diffuser only came out over seas. They could not give me any information on that. I am curios why Europe gets first introduction same with Kamato Joe seen that at Spago, It must be European trade show Chef Eric and Pitmaster X were there. Ps Nice Rec Tec demonstration.
Remember R R R
Louis at R shack BBQ I Agree. I learn a lot of stuff while doing this TH-cam thing. I thank you for watching and your support Brother.
I love you. (In a manly, non gay way... of course!) Lol
Stew Pidasso LMAO!! Not taken that way. It’s more a man crush. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
As much as I hate Illinois...just want to let you know the "s" at the end is silent. HA
mark lloyd Yeah that’s funny. Different dialects. I probably say Porsche wrong too. Lol. Thanks for the comment and watching
@@meatcranium4280 No problem. I lived in south for 4 years during my time in the Military...still say y'all...and I live in Wisconsin (hence why Illinois sucks)
Expert grill is a much better bang for your buck
Also if you know what you're doing you can cook anything with the expert that you cook with a Weber
You believe Weber? I don't!
Joe Ovel yes I do until proven otherwise. Thanks for the support and watching
Illi-noise.... Lol
