Tsareena was game-changing the whole match. It was blocking Incin's Fake Out against Choice Scarf Kyogre that woud've been vulnerable to attacks from the rest of Wolfe's team
Wolfe's team wasn't necessarily hard countered. But the fact of the matter was he misplayed a bit. Trick Room in front of Tsareena pretty much decided the game for him.
That rain dance on Tornadus single-handedly won Santino the weather war. The dusclop is the weak-link here, in a taunt meta it cannot even set up trick room. In hindsight pokemon like Jellicent, mimikyu or prankster mon like Sableye would be better.
not sure if that's what u meant but you can't use a priority Trick Room (-6 speed) with Prankster (only +1 speed) and - Prankster mon like Sableye is absolutely useless against Queenly Majesty!

The other players cups had open team sheets so seeing it like this really is just like tournaments are held in real life.

He played real smart, with minds and scarf ogre too, because spamming water spout is the worst type of set and can lose easily after game 1 but he played it well instead of just spamming.

I'll never forget as a kid playing saphire for the first time going into the kyogre fight with my blazakin and being like I'll hit it with a blaze kick and weaken then throw an ultra ball only for it to get okhoed with my only save being hours and hours before the fight
First round Santi has the game wrapped up, Tsareena outspeeds and uses Axel or Glide into groudon, Boom double targets for the likely ko. This play looses to protect. The play he made instead allowed for groudon to 100% live and he already knew that recoil brought Roar down from that range. So he knew that trying for a 1v1 vs groudon would have been safer. Instead the sheer bulk of roar allowed for 2 ko in a turn. Santi saw a piece of bait and jumped on it.

@@BlackPersonExpert just started using showdown recently bc my team I used to get through sword was all attack moves and would be terrible in vgc most likely lol. I made a trick room team as my first one it's mimikyu, Hatter, torkoal, yveltal. Incineroar and peliper I typically lead with hat and yvel to set up tailwind or trick room depending on what they have. Some games it goes well but vs good players it's not super great. wolfe had a very interesting team and wow wolfe had really bad match ups with kyogre which is hard to remove which counters 3 of his pokemon while the tsareena here is another counter for groudon even if wolfe had 2 fire types against rillaboom and tsareena still scarf ogre is still a really bad match up because it is hard when wolfe gets weather countered by kyogres drizzle which really puts him more at a disadvantage
I feel like if Wolfe just went meta with Kyogre or Xerneas instead of trying to break the mold he would do better. Still my favourite Vgc player but always sucks to see him lose to the obvious picks
Ironically the 'meta' pick of Incineroar got zero utility for Wolfe in games two or three. Anyways, the third game would have been within his grasp if Tsareena didn't have Taunt (which is quite a nifty and uncommon tech for it), as he could have set up Trick Room.

@@espisesp It's mostly used to drop in to boost another teammate and potentially tank a special hit in a pinch, if sun is up it gives the 1.5x attack and spdef instantly to really boost their buddy. It's also a great Kyogre counter if you look at the first match of the 2nd set video when Wolfe goes up against a Kyogre team and Cherrim one shots it with Solar Blade. Venasaur is definitely a better offensive mon in basically every way, but Cherrim is a fantastic supporting mon under sun in double battles for physical teamates that could use some special bulk as well. Kyogre was probably the main reason it was included but it's very useful against Shadow Rider Calyrex and Xerneas as well

Even with a double protect you still had a live kyogre. For wolf to win he would have needed a double protect activation and the sacred fire knock out.
that first match i was saying what id do as santino the whole time, we had the same plays up until that solar blade turn, i was going to uturn into cherrim and switch kyogre to rilla wouldve ended really really well for santino had he done that
It's not his first tournament, he's been at it for years now, but the issue with team building is that you have to eventually decide between which Pokemon your team is just gonna have to struggle against

@@lumialight8305 I think his team was well-built but he didn’t play perfectly and the sets on Santino’s Pokémon were what lost him the games. Dusclops is a counter to Kyogre (trick room) and so are Zapdos + Cherrim. Also, Entei and Incineroar counter common partners of Kyogre (Rillaboom and Tsareena). I’m especially highlighting the clutch taunt on Tsareena.
@@lumialight8305 his team is really well built, he admitted yesterday that he didn't give his best at all and was playing little casually :( That's why he had some minor misplays which costed him the match.
Never give Entei a choice item. Just don't do it. Sacred fire, Extreme speed, Stone edge, Will-o-wisp, etc., that moveset is just too good to pass on in exchange for extra power, especially in a meta filled with scarfed Kyogre + Tsareena teams. Anyway, love Wolfey, great matches, and have fun everyone ✌🏻
@@jonathanlgill Don't need to imo, Entei can take hits from it and retaliate (and potentially OHKO it). The real issue is its partner, i.e. Landorus-I, Kyogre, Groudon, Indeedee-F, etc., but that can be dealt with with a partner for Entei that, for example, will actually hold the Scarf + Ice Beam/Freeze Dry, have Fake out, redirect attacks, etc.
@@JRR31 Indeed. Even a pinch berry or Shuca/Passho berry could work, depending on what leads/pokémon you pretend/expect to face with it. I've even faced White Herb Entei in what I assume was a pseudo-counter to Regieleki + electroweb or any speed drops. This guardian dog is just very good in this meta 🤩

that first match i was saying what id do as santino the whole time, we had the same plays up until that solar blade turn, i was going to uturn into cherrim and switch kyogre to rilla wouldve ended really really well for santino had he done that

It's not his first tournament, he's been at it for years now, but the issue with team building is that you have to eventually decide between which Pokemon your team is just gonna have to struggle against
@@ChaosKnuxxx i am well verged in the language of doubles (and wolvey's history). Don't worry about that. I just feel like he was pushing his luck a little too much on his kyogre matchup. Especially with dusclops and cherrim. The team was amazing in earlier rounds though. I'll give him that.
@@lumialight8305 I think his team was well-built but he didn’t play perfectly and the sets on Santino’s Pokémon were what lost him the games. Dusclops is a counter to Kyogre (trick room) and so are Zapdos + Cherrim. Also, Entei and Incineroar counter common partners of Kyogre (Rillaboom and Tsareena). I’m especially highlighting the clutch taunt on Tsareena.

That's why he had some minor misplays which costed him the match.
Never give Entei a choice item. Just don't do it. Sacred fire, Extreme speed, Stone edge, Will-o-wisp, etc., that moveset is just too good to pass on in exchange for extra power, especially in a meta filled with scarfed Kyogre + Tsareena teams. Anyway, love Wolfey, great matches, and have fun everyone ✌🏻
Being able to outspeed Zacian seems like a reasonable reason for the Scarf.
@@jonathanlgill Don't need to imo, Entei can take hits from it and retaliate (and potentially OHKO it). The real issue is its partner, i.e. Landorus-I, Kyogre, Groudon, Indeedee-F, etc., but that can be dealt with with a partner for Entei that, for example, will actually hold the Scarf + Ice Beam/Freeze Dry, have Fake out, redirect attacks, etc.
Agreed. Plus with his natural bulk, I feel like AV is the prefect item for him.

@@JRR31 Indeed. Even a pinch berry or Shuca/Passho berry could work, depending on what leads/pokémon you pretend/expect to face with it. I've even faced White Herb Entei in what I assume was a pseudo-counter to Regieleki + electroweb or any speed drops. This guardian dog is just very good in this meta 🤩
