This guy has been my main jam for over a year now. He has a perfect voice, and I like that he delves into dark subject matter even though it sounds like his life has not been particularly fraught. He's just straight-up rock and roll, honest, no frills. Awesome stuff, and a pleasure to watch other people connect with it!
GOD PLEASE BLESS OUR HUMANS THAT SUFFER FROM PTSD. Pray for all to understand the daily struggles. I suffer with it from being abused as a child and growing up in a violent alcoholic home. To many triggers. Music is my escape...that’s why I love Reaction videos and seeing the joy of seeing people discover what has been my escape all my life. Thank you.
White Buffalo has many songs you gotta dive into. ’Come Join the Murder’, ’I Got You’ and his covers of ’House of the Rising Sun’ and ’Highwayman’ to name a few.
"Come Join the Murder" was definitely on Sons of Anarchy; I remember it vividly. This is soul-deep music that taps into a very real darkness, like Leonard Cohen songs do.
Loooooove white buffalo!!! Their version of house in charming town....sooooo good!! Of course join the murder (of crows- samcro) is fabulous as well. Love em!!
Mason Black No, it’s ”sun” and it was released by ”The Animals” in 1964. It’s been covered by many artists. ”The White Buffalo” changed ”New Orleans” into ”Charming Town”, but it’s still a cover. Five Finger Death Punch also covered the song and changed New Orleans into ”Sin City”. Sorry to burst your bubble, but everyone should know this classic by The Animals.
This song is so on point. Wrestling with the demons of being a killing machine and trying to function in society as a “normal” person. That switch can’t just be turned off. Trying to drowned the feelings with alcohol knowing its wrong. Don’t go downtown tonight....man love it. Being an 8 year Army vet myself I can relate. I fortunately didn’t have these issues as my faith in Christ and loving family supports me in every way. Those that don’t have these things man I pray for you. One of the best songs ever. Thank you for this man! Prayers to our Veterans!
This. Was. Me. I hurt a lot of people. And, trying to pretend all was right with the world, that’s harder than combat. When, every person you pass, you KNOW (in your mind) they’re judging you, mocking you, laughing at you, want to fight you, telling you what a coward you are or how weak you are, and, you know you can’t let anyone get away with it! Took a long time to realize everyone has their own issues and are looking right through and don’t even know you exist.
First, I'm a Marine Corps Vet, my dad was wounded in Vietnam and five of my six uncles and both of my brothers also served. The WW2 generation saved the world. They did things none of the younger generations, including yours, could imagine obtaining victory (my grandfather told me they killed surrendering Germans because they couldn't spare the men to take them back to Bn HQ). They didn't see themselves as victims. They sucked it up and built the greatest economy and nation in history. You've been victimized, not by your mind or your enemy, but by three generations of weak-kneed academic Socialists telling you you've been victimized and should feel guilty. Would Muhammad feel guilty if he'd killed you? Hell no. he'd see it as his duty to his nation and his God. Stop being a victim and accept that you did what was expected of you. Semper Fi.
Oh my sweet Jesus...this was so POWERFUL and hauntingly BEAUTIFUL...😭🇺🇸😭🇺🇸 God Bless ALL the veterans out there and thank you for your service...God Bless The USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you for doing this song. This guy is incredible. It’s rare in music...especially today’s music, to hear a song that can be dark & ominous, but beautiful at the same time. Genius songwriting. Also glad to know it’s bringing attention to the pain that our veterans are dealing with. Also again, please consider taking a look at Colter Wall - “The Devil Wears A Suit & Tie”. The kid is like 24y/o and I swear he is the reincarnation of Johnny Cash.
Do you mean Colter Wall? He is incredible. The first time I heard him open his mouth I was completely floored! Baby faced young man with that voice???? Just wow! Sleeping on the Blacktop is great also. 👍
Erica Veillette YES! It is Colter Wall...thank you for correcting me. I have no clue where I came up with Cody Waller lol. He is amazing...that voice does not look like it should come from that human. “Sleeping on the Blacktop” is amazing....another great of his is “Kate McCannon”
I hadn’t heard this before, either...and I grew up military. My dad put in over 22 years and most of my friends ended up in the military (I couldn’t for health reasons). This hit hard. Thank you.
PTSD is a syndrome that haunts all who serve our community. Former Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper. I remember many a night lit by the flashing lights that will haunt me forever.
My Mum used to always say that she never liked a singer that doesn't sweat. She was most likely referring to singers such as Joe Cocker but this song fits the bill nicely to.
As a huge fan of White Buffalo, I have seen him a number of times, and this song has always been my favorite. Great reaction and excellent dialogue. Well done, brother.
Too deep. Haunting. Life is something else. God bless those who are trying to fight the demons. Amen brother for giving the advice to those who are struggling- that they seek help.
Man, your reactions are so interesting. I feel like I am watching myself when I see you react. This performance left me with the same feelings. Keep at it brother, and you are welcome for our service, it truly is our honor.
I told you man, that The White Buffalo would leave you slackjawed!!!! He is a tremendous artist, and he having never served in the military, has a knack for perfectly expressing the soul of our troops. Truly amazing! Thank you so much for reacting to my request! Now, to echo another commenter, Five Finger Death Punch- Wrong Side of Heaven!
You just KNOW that when artists sing songs about soldiers' suffering that it's going to have all the effect & impact of a stealth bomber. This guy's voice...... 💥 BOOM!!!💥I've never heard of him before but DAMNNN...... He really got his message through to me in a HUGE way ✊️😋👍 ✅✅✅
The album this song is from was written many years after sons of anarchy......it was never on that show. "Come join the murder" was a song that he did with another band and there were two or three songs off his first album on the show also." The whistler" is off of The third album, "Shadows, greys and evil ways". The album tells a mans life story and struggles from start to finish. If you get the lyrics and read along with the whole thing undisturbed it is a story that will give you chills and bring tears to your eyes at the end......death...... its badass. Try it......it is well worth a hour of your life.
Told you he was a trip to the dark side many of us have been there and will always relate. he really knows how to translate the inner feelings into words.
Latent guilt and homicidal tendencies all repressed and a thin lid to hold them down, switch thrown and the lid comes off, just as quick, back to the semi-depressed "whistler" mode. For those who have had to deal, it takes lots of time combined with soul searching and finding your vent to release the guilt and anguish. No two handle it the same, but the cause is the same just at different levels. Brilliant how he is able to convey the way his friend could just flip the switch and the struggle to get it back in the box. A lot of his works are with those who have shared the details of their lives and he writes about their strife and belts it out like he lives and breathes it vicariously through them. Quite a talent. @@jamelakajamal
worst part is Jake (white buffalo) being your favorite musician for like 9 years at this point...Imagine trying to sing The Whistler in a normal apt complex and you get to the yelling part. Hahaha
Jamal..... I'm sure that all of us had a similar reaction to yours at the end of this song when first hearing it. PTSD is & can be a "killer" if those affected don't seek help. The first step is usually the hardest..... ADMITTING you have a problem & need help with it. I hope for & wish nothing but the absolute BEST for anyone suffering from it in their quest for help. Stay strong...... Stand tall..... STAND PROUD ✊️😄👌
Like the majority of your reactions I listened to this is the dark which seems to me adds to the music. And this song in that darkness was so hauntingly good!!!his voice so pained and powerful made the words cut ever so deep
Love the great video,,, plus you have a nak 4 sharing your thoughts,,, not a bad gig,,, Love the ones u do on zeppelin, my favorite,,, hey, if your going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your ears,,, Oregon friend. :)
Very strong message. Great song. I’d like to recommend “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed, originally by Simon and Garfunkel”. Their performance on Conan is the best, and he has one of the strongest voices I’ve ever heard.
USMC Veteran here. Veterans are not victims. We did what we signed up for. Any Vet who sees him/herself as a victim needs to check themselves and get real. Nobody promised you a rose garden. You're not a victim, you're a hero, and heroes suck it up and move on. Victims wither and die. Find something that makes you happy; something that motivates you, get up and be a hero. Don't let them cast us as victims. By doing so, they are diminishing your service and sacrifice. You are brave, continue to be an example of bravery to others. Ooh-Rah!
I haven't been through all your video's yet, but this one hit's home to me ...Just imagine how many men and women with talent like this we have lost due to war ... war is never good and doesn't benefit anybody except for the company's that profit from war and the politicians that promote it for their own financial gain.
I don't remember which episode this was in, but I know he also had songs in the seasons 3, 4, and 7 finale. Kurt Sutter really loved his voice. He was also featured in the Punisher apparently. He's going on tour this year, and it's my goal to see him live.
This hurt to hear because of growing up watching a WWII grandfather and Nam uncle. Also a best friend who got out after almost 20 years in the sandbox. All try to live with what we now call ptsd.
Lol, your facial expressions Jamel! No judgement because I was doing the same. I’ve never heard this song but damn! I enjoyed it very much. Have a wonderful weekend my friend. 👏🤗💗🌺
I know that tune he was whistling in the beginning of this song. It sounds very similar to the whistling that was done on Billy Joel's album The Stranger.
Listen to Redemption #2 by him. Flawless. Just NO words for it Another GREAT GREAT song is by Lefty Frizzell called “The Long Black Veil”. Just phenomenal

One small quibble ... House of the Rising Son, spelled with an "o" and was written specifically for Sons of Anarchy.

I have to let that one breathe. We really need to stop these BS wars and bring our people home; the cost is just way too high.
This is the meaning of letting the dark out.
Being a daughter of a Vietnam vet..I know it's so hard on them..but it's hard on the family too...then add the agent orange too omg.
