I was so terrified while watching this movie when it came out that I had to take breaks. A truely sophisticated horror film. Anthony Hopkins and Gary O. are genius in this film.

Also Dracula actually doesn’t have a thick accent in the book and is said to speak perfect English.
Got to love how completely unfazed Jonathon Harker is by the obviously supernatural happenings right in front of him - he's just like "huh, that carriage driver's arm just grew ten feet and picked me up". I also really love the way Dracula's shadow isn't really following his movements at all.
It was more acutely described in the books, but these supernatural things are occurrences that Harker fails to realize/react to in the moment, but reflects on later in his letters and writings. Its very easy for someone in Harker's position to rationalize the weird things he sees as either tricks of the light, odd hallucinations brought on by his long travel, or simply the peculiarities of a strange and foreign land.
I am taking an introduction to film class and it describes in a book how dare is a curtain like a screen placed in front of the actors and there's like a choreographer in the back and a shadow is supposed to represent Dracula's shadow , so the choreographer was the one that was doing all like the shadow movements
“Yourrrrrr frrrrrrrienddddd,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,D”. So diabolical. No one ever needs to try and make a Dracula film after this. What’s the point? Cinematic perfection.

I mean, I love this film too, but it's hardly cinematic perfection. There's a ton of poor editing throughout the film, a lot of the purposefully practical effects would have looked much better had they been special effects, and no matter how many gold medals we win at mental gymnastics, 2 of the 3 leads were miscast by the studio. Yes, there's a lot of great things about this film, but there's no reason to Richard ride it so hard. It's extremely flawed, which is the opposite of cinematic perfection.

Everyone drags Keanu Reeves for this performance, but I think he nails it - the part calls for a naive young man and he plays the naive young man beautifully.

The way that huge arm reaches out and effortlessly lifts him into the carriage, so creepy. I always wanted to see more of this guy, he appears to be wearing armor in the style of his lord Dracula.
@@lucasdamotta i meant in the movie, in the book it's not specified wether the coach driver is Dracula himself, although it is mentioned that this mysterious driver is an unnatural figure, and that his arms stretch in a supernatural way (in my opinion implying it is Sracula in disguise).

C'est vraiment un personnage romantique au sens noble du terme que n'auraient pas renié tous les grands romantiques du XIXème siècle. Un personnage damné mais qui cherche la rédemption à travers un amour éternel. Toutes les scènes sont magnifiques, celles avec Lucie, Mina, du château, bref un vrai moment de bonheur cinématographique. If you are a fan of this movie than you probably already know, every special effect was achieved in camera, the miniature train travelling over the surface of the giant book? it was an actual miniature train and an actual giant book, the glowing eyes in teh sky were projected onto the back ground.
Keanu has taken lotta flack for his acting and especially for this period peace. But I think he did a wonderful job of portraying the naïve librarian!!
With some movies, it's enough to watch any scene from it to spark an irresistible urge to rewatch the entire masterpiece. This is one of those movies, for me.
Nah. The best Dracula is Dracula: Dead and Loving It with Leslie Nielsen. Based on the same Bram Stoker novel. It is the superior version of this magnificent tale.
Went to the cinema at least three times with my brother to watch this masterpiece. Ironically the only actor that I felt wasn’t good enough for the role was Keanu. Yet now, I have to admit he’s a great actor and maybe more importantly, a stand up human being of the the very best character.

Because crossing a threshold into a residence is a serious matter for a vampire. It's why the music/sound effect is as tense as it is for the moment. It's to reinforce the drama of that scene. But, yes, it's lost if you don't know anything about vampire lore.

In other words, it's important to VLAD that Harker crosses that threshold on his own free will. If I really wanted to be a cinematic wonk, I could say that is the reason the camera is on Vlad's side of the door, and not Harker's.
I have fallen in love with Dracula media via this film. The book is simply stunning, but i have also gone on to read other books and watch every film that I could find. One of the funnest things I have read and would recommend is the 70s/80s comic, 'Tomb of Dracula'. Its 80 brilliant issues plus some spinoffs, and also an animated film from 1980. There are a number of comic adaptations of the Bram Stoker novel, and also based upon the film version from 1992. There is even a really fun Mickey Mouse comic adaptation that if you know the story from the book, you will no doubt enjoy it more as an adult as much of it will go over a child's head.

If I remember correctly, in the book it says that he has a couple of servants. Those who were loading up crates with dirt, for example. So entirely plausible there was someone cooking meals for guests (who most likely later on ended up being meals themselves).

In the movie Dracula has several servants, gipsies who serve him faithfully as said on screen by Van Helsing, they defend his carriage near the end of the movie.
Is the carriage driver Dracula himself, some sort of creature of his, or just an animated suit of armor? I wonder if it's in the novel. And what do those rings of blue fire signify.
