Watching Kirsten Dunst go from roles like this to Spider-Man, all the way to Civil War as an older veteran reporter. Thinking about how young she was in this movie is so crazy!
This really was a fantastic movie! Anne Rice’s writing style is superlative. I had the honor of a reply from Ms. Rice not once but twice on Facebook of all places. I think I had a kind of crush on her for a bit. When she died it was so sad knowing that there will never be another book from her.
This is the Lestat I love, Tom embodied him so perfectly! Whatever you think of Tom, he was, and still is, the BEST Lestat. Edited: Unlike that other dude from the show.
I was amazed by the artistic direction chosen here. Having Tom Cruise shoot this scene with absolutely no makeup made Lestat look like a completely different person.
This is by far one of the best vampire movies of all time. I have read all the Anne Rice books and i was saddened to hear of her passing, but her books will live on and hopefully they will become favourites with a new generation.
Listen to the words and how good the writing not only for the books, but in the movie (unlike what became of Queen of the Damned) as well. Tom Cruise, despite objections from Anne Rice originally, did a great job as Lestat but all the cast did a great job with the writing that was given their characters.
Disagree. Tom Cruise might be very fun to watch in isolated TH-cam clips, but he's a manically selfish actor who sucks all of the oxygen out of every film he's in. He has no generosity for anybody in a scene with him, and it's ultimately grating to watch more than 10-20 minutes of the Tom Cruise Show. The books were built on a wide cast of interesting characters, but this film was compromised enormously to sate Cruise's ego. It would have probably been better without him, even if a worse actor had shared the screen better.
@@brettzforemanwell its up to his fellow actors to raise their game and play off of him if they want to stand out. He may be a bit of a tool at times but his acting is top notch.
To think Lestat spent weeks in the Mississippi feeding on whatever he could find only brought him half way healed enough to attack them is really unsettling.
First saw this movie at a gothic looking theater in California when it came out. The place had thick black curtains and a dark decor and the curtain pull was preceded by a dude playing dark piano music on the stage. I haven’t seen anything like it since.
@ well they went searching for vampires like in the movie but the book speaks about how they came across an Eastern European village that practiced all the tell tale signs of superstitious beliefs with garlic hanging and crosses everywhere etc. When they actually investigated the situation Louis and Claudia came across a feral vampire which was more beast than man in like a cave or something and was attacked by it forcing Louis to kill it.
The Revenants. There were a lot of little bits and pieces in the book that would have made this movie even better than it already was. Like Louis and Armand actually trekking across Europe and Africa at the end in search of legends of the old vampires.
i can't understand how Tom Cruise after nailing this part in the best way possible, he goes back to do the same parts over and over. The super hero, action man, good guy.

I'm really disappointed by it. When I heard there was a series I got really excited for it, but it became clear very quickly that it wasn't what I wanted it to be. Really a shame considering how many damned books they have to draw on for it. They could keep it going for ages.
River Phoenix was already contracted to play Brad Pitts role. Normally I don't ever consider if an actor who didn't do the role would have done better because our memory knows only one perception of that character but River Phoenix....that boy was the best.
I have never read the books. So I saw this film just at face value. After the series came out and a friend was trying to explain this chaos, knowing Louie and Lestat are lovers/soulmates/whatever…. It is hard to see that bond /relationship in this film with Cruise & Pitt.
Which is why I think a ton of fans of the book were not pleased with this big screen adaptation. Tom Cruise comes off only as Tom Cruise in vampire makeup instead of embodying and creating and showing us a character in action. And as you note, the undeniable chemistry between them, the life wrenching pull of an abusive relationship between them in the book, is not to be found in the movie.
