    So I took the liberty of hooking one of these up today. Along with a 50 inch lightbar and two a pillar LED lights. I am a complete newbie! And this was extremely easy to do. All thanks to adventureDex for a step-by-step video that made this completely easy and rewarding to do yourself.

    I installed a SPOD on my 2005 Jeep Rubicon. It was an easy install an made the install of a new 17" light bar on my bumper a breeze. I liked having the ability to customize the toggle switches with graphics that compliment their use - such as a Zombie graphic for my light bar and a winch graphic for my winch. Makes hooking/powering accessories easy.

      AdventureDex can water get into it or is it waterproof because I go mudding aloy

    • @adventuredex

      thanks for the question, obviously there is only so much water or mud that electronics can take but being in the position it is...unless you intend to completely submerge your Jeep you should be fine. Thanks for watching!

    Nice installation video! The only small con I have about the MLC6 is the interior LEDs never turn off. Probably not an issue since the MLC6 has the LVCO but I will mod those LEDs to be off.

    I have watched some of your videos and like the way that you do a step by step install with warnings about potential problems. I have very limited to no mechanical skills but can follow directions, and based on your video I could almost do this....except for the removal of the pillar panels and using the jigsaw to modify. Would prefer to install the switchpod with someone like you who knows what he is doing. Be that as it may, thanks for your very helpful videos...I have just subscribed!!

      r g -Look at it this way, even if you botched the trim, so what? Buy a new one and trim again. Otherwise, you'll never learn. Learning by doing gains self confidence.
      I am guilty of the very same reasoning, that! And I am a lazy character! Cheers!

    OK, here is what you should add. Add White & Amber wig-wag lightbar or small LED's for events or helping out someone on the side of the road. If legal in your area.
    Here in Colorado they're legal. Many contractors use them too.

      All RC would have to do is to extend the bracket a little, so that the plastic trim won't hit. One would think it's an easy fix; hopefully they take your comment into consideration and modify the bracket. Great video, though! Keep them coming!!!

      Thanks for your comment, I believe you have a fair assessment however RC has really improved their products over the past few years and honest have won me over. 10:51 it might be simple but my province requires off road lights to be triggered by the the high beam circuit not the ignition. So I would need to have a way to only have the relay trip if the off road light switch was on and the high beams are on at the same time. I also like my fog lights to come on with my park lights or factory fog light. It sounds kind of complicated but once you do it a few times it not so hard.
    11:37 That is a good feature.
    12:30 I would like to have them green like my dash lights.
    12:46 Back up lights.
    Thanks for the video

    I've watched the video couple of times and how did you run the wires through the firewall because the foam solution the plug doesn't fit . How did you get it through the firewall can you upload a video just for that or pictures because I bought a 2017 Jeep Wrangler and I'm having issues with the switch set up so far.

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great Question! The firewall has a round rubber grommet that can be sliced to get wired through! It is easily found in the foot well! Hope that helps!

  • @jp99575w
    @jp99575w 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just purchased this product because I didn't want to spend the time wiring up a relay box & trying to make it fit, also time consuming. Besides I wanted an over the mirror mount. My suggestion to Rough Country is to make the cover plastic, insulate the inside walls for protection against accidentally having the sides touch the positive lead when putting the cover in place, or providing a rubber insulator that goes over the top of that positive lead bolt. That's what I plan to do, Murphy's Law....if it can happen it will at some point. I'm a safety guy.

  • @raaah
    @raaah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with you Jank! Any trimming of the plastic should not be necessary, the design is flawed but it is cheaper

  • @RamosDominicano
    @RamosDominicano 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As always, great video Dex! I was originally going to follow your video to wire up my A-pillar switches, but this seems like a much simpler installation. I do have a few questions for you. Given the option, would you prefer to have your switches in the A-pillar or overhead console? Which do you find easier to operate? Also, does the new console affect your ability to operate the hard top latches?

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Remi! To answer your questions, The overhead is great value in comparison to the A-pllar since it comes pre-wired and has a few cool features. like the low voltage cut off. Also I needed more than 4 switches so the overhead was a great addition. The overhead does not prevent the hardtop from closing but that latch is tight!! Thanks for watching!

    i had really high hopes for this..i ordered it got it all wired up and the 6th switch didnt work and the 3rd switch had to be on for switches 1,2,4,and 5 to work. also the led stay on when the car is off which i hate. the plug on the back that connects is pretty big and make fitting the panel back on harder than it should be. i ended up sending it back. i went with spod and spent more doe to have better dependability. i have the spod and its amazing but it was 800 bucks. This is really nice though for the price as long as it works. fyi the otrattw custom switches do work for this Rc system. i have all rc black series lights running to my spod and love them. i think rc makes good stuff but your mileage may very on the switches. great video

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! I appreciate and respect all of your input! I think the main point here is cost/value. From my personal experience, RC makes great, reliable and affordable products but of course there is always going to be a more expensive top of the line product that some people choose to buy. I personally think that you cannot go wrong with $200 with warranty. I am sorry to hear that you got a faulty product but I am glad you got sorted out in the end! Thanks for watching!

    The only thing I see which I don't like is the open wires on the switch panel itself (on top)... Im also not a fan of cutting trim parts of the car. They can also think of making the junction box in the engine bay dust proof, I can just think how it will look if one drive a lot of dirt roads. The rest of the product seems top notch!!!

    That is a super awesome switch pod. But I'm with you regarding the cutouts and the switch colors. They should provide colored inserts so you can choose your colors. My pillar switch pod has a different color for each switch, which makes it easier to find the one you want. Regarding what you should wire up ... I don't know if you already have them or not, but I'm thinking of putting some LED spotlights facing the rear. Just not sure how or where to mount them back there. Any ideas?

I'm new to this switch pod stuff and I just bought some awesome side mirrors like yours...😍 Well, I didn't know that it did not come with the switch pod .. so my question is, which one would you recommend for someone that doesn't have any other light bar or anything else? I just need one for the side mirrors? Thank you so much!!

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment Chantal! It all depends on your needs, the A pillar is a good cheap option but it is limited to 4 switches and a lot of wiring. The RC switch pod does with 6 switches and is prewired! If you can get the Rough Country, then I would say go for it! Thanks for watching!

    great video and very helpful. One question is that the LED lights stay lit blue even when there is no key in the ignition. Is that true? Seems a bit strange that it is not a switched current. Thanks and keep up the great content.

      Thanks for the comment! The led lights do not turn off. It does not seem to affect the battery in away. I have had it in my Jeep for about 2 weeks with no issues! Thanks for watching!

    I ordered the accessory for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler, however, I’m experiencing a problem. The negative wire to the battery has an additional red wire to it and the instructions advices to add a fuse connector to it in order to prevent the pod’s lights from staying on during shut off, and it also suggests cutting the red wire at the harness on the board and capping off one end. Well, needless to say my lights are not coming on! Either I did something wrong or the instructions is wrong

    I was wondering; I'd like to wire two Light pods (2 on both sides of the vehicle) together on one switch, and the other two on another switch. Seeing the MLC6 that you're talking about, how would you go about doing this?

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! Two easy way to do this, either run all the lights to one switch and connect or connect all the light together then run 1 wire to the switch. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    I have 2 sets of Rigid Duallys and a light bar run into my a-pillar switch panel (pos,neg,and ground wires). With this, can I cut the wires down to just pos/neg since the MLC-6 has its own ground? Can I also cut the fuse out? Awesome video.

    When installing the switches, it looks like the top of the housing is open to water if you have your top off and get caught in the rain (at 6:42 in the video). is there a cover plate that went on after you screwed it in, or does it remain open on the top like that. Seems like a rain shower could get all the inside wet. Otherwise, this is definitley something I'll look at trying (unless you've found one better since this video).

    Can you do a video on the S-Tech Switch Box? Specifically how to wire the lights into the switch box. Most videos online skip this step. What do i do with the black wire coming from the light? There is no place to plug that into the S-Tech Switch box.

    aren't you supposed to put the bracket outside of the screws? It might be harder to close a soft top after

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment Jack. The bracket for the switches goes behind the loop so the loop can still be used once the switches are in place. Its a tight squeeze tho. Thanks for watching!

    Sorry if you mentioned this in the video or I just haven't done my research but does the MLC-6 work on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler?
    I'm 16 and I am beginning to save up for a Wrangler as my first car. I absolutely love the community for upgrades and mods to the Wrangler(as well as this channel! Thanks a lot!), and can't wait to do a few to mine when the time comes. Is the 2017 any different from a 2016 or 2015 mod wise?

    • @adventuredex
      @adventuredex  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! There is no difference really. I am not 100% sure if this works on 2017. You would need to check with RC. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Dex:
    I just purchase the Rough County MLC6 in Amazon what a disappointed when after taking the tops off and opening the box the 09-2017 bracket was missing my jeep is a Rubicon 2012. I wrote to the seller requesting bracket asap. The instructions shows brackets one for 07-08 and another one from 09-17 my husband got very mad when he notice that the bracket was missing. Just wanted to let you know.

    Great video/videos bro. Question that I haven't seen asked, and wasn't covered in video- the latch that spins to lock the front part of the top t roof pieces that sit above the pod switch. Does it no longer lock? I can't turn mine unless I unscrew the hex screw. Ideas?

    • @adventuredex
