- Hey everyone, I just wanted to talk about the current state of Touhou songs in 7th Beat Games…Games. ZUN (creator/composer of Touhou) has respectfully requested that all remixes and variations of Touhou songs (Galaxy Collapse, Scattered Faith, Wizdomiot, etc.) not be available in ANY format. “The use of Music composed and published by ZUN (music included in Team Shanghai Alices’s games, CDs, etc.) is prohibited. The use of Touhou music arranged by fans is also prohibited at this time.” With that being said, this is truly my last video covering any songs from this series. All Touhou songs will be removed from the Steam Workshop over the next few days. I will keep the current videos and this one on my channel unless asked specifically to remove them by ZUN.
The main point I wanted to touch on here, is not to be upset with ZUN, 7th Beat Games, Level Creators, Content Creators, or anyone else that is affected by this. Please respect everyone involved and do not pressure anyone to make or post content involving any of these. The reason I want these videos to stay on my channel and why I wanted to upload this one isn’t for me, but it’s for you, the viewers who have spent MONTHS with me while I’ve learned this song. I did this because of the time and energy you gave me over all of these months. So once again thank you for the support and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead. With that said, enjoy my last Galaxy Collapse video.

This 2021 is a very sad day for me.
On Christmas Eve, my most famous map disappeared.
When I woke up one morning, about 7 of my maps were missing.
I want to apologize to everyone that this has happened.
I'm sorry to everyone who got to know me through this map, and to those who play this map.
Gamma played this map and it was a good day for me.
It is very sad that this situation has happened. Now, please leave this map as a memory only.

I respect zun's decision but this is an absolutely massive blow to the rhythm game community. Like odds are if you've ever played anything hard in any rhythm game or any rhythm based game ever it's probably a touhou remix
anyway you're insane, this game doesn't even look possible on 1x speed, to do it on 1.3x just isn't human

Congrats Gamma, but this hurts more than it needs to. It's just a couple of charts, but still, these were days worth of effort in decorating these levels and months worth playing, only for it to be removed. It hurts way too much.
There's not much we can do other than say goodbye to these legendary maps. May these maps find a perfected legacy. o7

As hard as I've tried, I can't find a single thing relating to this situation in English or in Japanese. I'm gonna chalk this up to Gamma getting baited by a troll, because this is not something ZUN would do. You don't generate 10+ years of goodwill and suddenly 180 with literally zero warning, and you absolutely can't tell people "sorry, fair use doesn't work anymore and you're not allowed to claim it" because that's extremely illegal. Derivative work is just that - derivative - and is protected by copyright laws even in Japan. Something doesn't add up.

It's most likely a very good troll threatening ADOFAI devs with believable evidence and legal action, and they have nothing to really do until they can confirm otherwise, other than taking the songs down for the time being. It sucks cause no matter what happens in this situation, ZUN comes out of it looking terrible.
Either it's true and ZUN did the 180 and lost all of the goodwill he built up over the last 10+ years, or it's a lie, but not enough people find out that it's a lie, and they still think he's an asshole for something he didn't do.

I'm questioning the whole ZUN thing from this video because it's just a VERY weird thing for him to do, especially with his opinion regarding fan made content. There's also the fact that there are Touhou remixes in other rhythm games that were officially included there, even osu didn't really have that kind of issue unless if I'm missing something.

It seems the ZUN Request might be fake as he was joining live and enjoying Touhou Remixes on a Touhou Radio Session like a week ago so unless something drastic happened, cuz it would be so extremely unlike him to suddenly go from liking and enjoying Remixes to hating them (As well as there's nothing on the Official Touhou Reddit nor on ZUN's Official Twitter Account)

I don't think this is a new thing, I think people have just been doing it for a while and it came up again. The only source I have is a screenshot from my Discord and a message from one of the ADOFAI devs. I honestly don't think ZUN seems to type to be like that.

I like ADOFAI and Im sure the devs are great people, but this doesnt seem quite right? this is the first time Ive ever heard of this and theres waaaaay larger rhythm games out there. Wouldnt the Osu or Mania communities like blow up with this news like instantaneously? It just seems fishy to me. Ive been looking everywhere else for something about this and the only place I can find it is here.

I find it hard to believe that he would ask them to remove the songs. Since he allows fan games to release commercially. So him going out of his way to contact a game with not even that many songs based on Touhou sounds very unbelievable.

I was new to this game, never got a chance to play high-level maps. After a few months, I wanted to try some from the higher level. Turns out many of my favorite maps have been removed. Shame..

Ok so I'd like to point out a couple of things,
The copyrights' guidelines on ZUN's website have not been updated since July, there is no indication that they will change
The email that has been leaked, implying that no one will be able to use Touhou-related songs in any context has not been confirmed to be real
There has been no official announcement whatsoever about that
The email in question specifically talked about the game ADOFAI, so it could be only related to this game, and nothing else
Basically there's very few chances that this is real, you will still be able to use Touhou songs

Why would anyone want their songs removed from rhythm games, though?
That's like the greatest free advertisement anyone could possibly hope for, and no one plays rhythm games to listen to the music in a way that could be replaced by listening to it on a streaming platform or by playing the original games. It's the same exact thing with Nintendo. It's not like fewer people are going to play your games just because the soundtrack is available elsewhere. It seems extremely petty, out-of-touch with reality and the gaming communities, but most importantly it's incredibly sad to waste people's time.

Yeah I'm mad too. Even though I think I can still play it, beating it for some reason feels like it won't be very fulfilling, and I was about to beat it too. Ik I'm not supposed to be mad, but it kinda feels like a spit in the face to everyone. The artists, level creators, and people like gamma who took months to clear these levels. All that work gone, even though some of those songs are just remixes, and not even in the actual game? (ik nothing about touhou so I may be wrong about that)

I'm trying my hardest to find a source on what you're saying in the intro and I just can't find it. I think there's an issue here, like a game of telephone. I think what's actually going on is that since the Touhou remixes being put on ADOFAI (commercially released game that is being sold for money) are released via Steam Workshop, without making a licensing deal, the doujin circles (and maybe ZUN too) aren't a fan of that and have asked the uploaders of those maps to take them down.
It makes absolutely ZERO sense for ZUN to take this stance when for several years he's been allowing all these doujin circles to form and make literally thousands upon thousands of touhou remixes. It makes even less sense when several of these touhou remixes have been officially licensed to be used in several rhythm games (bad apple, cirno's perfect math class, kero 9 destiny, and so on).
Again, I think the message that Gamma Loop has put at the start of this video is likely heavily distorted here. If what he's saying was true I'd see WAY MORE PEOPLE talk about this, because the implications are of course enormous.
He also has stated multiple times in the past he is fine with fan games and the likes releasing commercially.

There must be a specific reason why he want it to be removed, since he doesn't really care much about copyright stuff, that's why his musics and remixes and so on get so popular, in Touhou Lostword, most of the music came from fan works also.

Honest question, don’t really know the answer. Is it really in ZUN’s right to remove fan made arrangements of their songs? Original music being taken and used they easily have the right to take down, but can they remove fan made arrangements which are in my mind transformative? No hate to ZUN, I just would like the clarification.
Zun has no legal grounds to have fan re-arrangements which are significantly different taken down. He's just a man-child, mad that his games' songs' remixes are more popular than the original work.
