Bad Storm of April 27, 2015 in Lafayette, Louisiana

  • Monday morning at 8:30 a storm front with very strong straight-line winds came in from East Texas and hit southern Louisiana knocking down trees and power outages. Heavy rains filled the drainage ditches and bayous reached flood level. You will see the sky turn dark and the ditches fill up within 20 minutes. Hail was in the forecast, so I put the garbage can in front to show the hail bouncing or the gale-force winds knock it over. It didn't happen. The house at the end of the street had a large tree fall over in their back yard. One of hundreds that fell that morning. In a way, this was a good wind test. It knocked down all the weak, rotten trees now, so that when the next hurricane hits, there will be less to fall.

This is exactly the way everyone should film severe storms. There's no talking, yelling, screaming or throwing around of the camera, perfect.

Yeah! and you should never turn the windscreen wipers on less than 20 minutes in because people might be able to see whats happening?

One thing about morning storms is how dark it gets when the storm is moving in. it’s always crazy seeing the morning sky look like dusk or night when storms are moving in.

If I remember correctly, this storm was tornado warned ? Amazing cloud motion! I ended up there later that afternoon as a tornado-warned cell pushed through, producing some of the most vivid lightning I have ever witnessed. Great vid and thanks !

I set up my video camera and recorded this from inside my car under the carport, then I went inside, not thinking the rain would hit the windshield. I was wrong. Thunder, lightning, gale force winds, but no hail, or power outage here at home. I was hoping to see the trash can knocked over. "LIKE", COMMENT and SHARE.

thank you so much for posting this! I remember this storm very specifically as being one of the most freaky weather incidents I've ever experienced. The way in which the sky went dark combined with the gale force winds terrified me as I was unprepared for it. Great to reminisce on this particular event.

wow. that does look like night. Holy shit. We got a storm last july that was tornado warned that had 100 mph+ winds. We lost power for 3 days part of the city was destroyed, trees down, powerlines snapped in half, some trees though the way they looked i believe a tornado came through where i live (a weak one, maybe a ef1), because the way they were laying it doesnt look like they were pushed over, rather sucked up out of the ground. It was crazY! I actually thought my porch door was gonna blow through.

I have sevral phobias. One would be he fear of heights (forgot what most of them were called but one) fear of elevators (i've been stuck in one, it sucks, what makes it worse people refused to help) fear of rain (common for children and adults, when its pouring it gives me anxiety) and last but not least Astraphobia, (scared of lighting and thunder, common in children AND adults) i enjoy watching storms but not going through storms. My WHOLE body shakes uncontrollably. One morning my Grandma drove me to school, it was raining hard, dark outside, and lightning touching the ground. The fact that it was on the roads i'm comfortable with and inwas shaking worries me. We got to school and it was fine, i was worried she would crash from it or something, i worried for her. I went in crying. It was during class the light went out, it came back on. But i enjoy watching weather or doing research about it. It gives me A FULL understanding and it calms me a bit. But either that that storm in real life give me high anxiety.
