  • Ruth H. shares about the writing of the Big Book (she is the woman who typed the original manuscript) and tons of other great AA History information! A great tape for anyone interested in the Big Book or the history of AA! :)
From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."

What is the Twelve Step Model? How is it a "treatment for alcoholism" or "alcohol abuse?"
From Wikipedia: "A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles (accepted by members as 'spiritual principles,' based on the approved literature) outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered from Alcoholism in 1939. The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs. Twelve-step methods have been adopted to address a wide range of substance-abuse and dependency problems."
You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site (And as should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other 12 step program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.)
"Addiction treatment" WORKS! There is addiction help out there and "addiction recovery" is possible. If you are battling "alcohol addiction" there are people who know EXACTLY what it is like!
It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her "alcohol abuse treatment." "Substance abuse" is a very serious condition. Many need inpatient stays or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with substance abuse issues. Help IS out there! :)

From the Big Book of AA: "Most of us feel we need look no further for Utopia. We have it with us right here and now. Each day my friend's simple talk in our kitchen multiplies itself in a widening circle of peace on earth and good will to men."
    Namaste, friends :)

When you hear Ruth mention Sybil, she was speaking of Sybil Corwin who was my AA sponsor. I am so glad that someone recorded this to TH-cam. Bob Corwin told me the story of this when he and Sybil gave me a copy of this taped talk. It was given at the Windsor Club in Glendale California. Sybil had written to AA in March of 1941 in response to the Saturday Evening Post Article, Ruth was Bill;s secretary so she wrote back to Sybil and said "you don't need to come back to New York, there is one meeting in California in your area and it meets at the Elks Temple on Friday nights, and if you need to speak to someone before the meeting feel free to call Cliff Walker at (and his phone number). Sybil went to the meeting and they thought she was a wife, as they had never had a female alcoholic. (Marty Mann was the first in new york and Sybil the 2nd in Los Angeles)
So when Ruth was visiting California Sybil asked her if she'd come to a small gathering of people and tell them a bit of aa.

Very good talk. Notice how she talks about how Bill W was praying with newcomers and flow aa's . it's the removal of character defects they went after immediately

A very good recording. But please remember what Ruth said in her opening statement. That she is not a speaker. She is all over the place with her dates of when things happened. She makes a comment or tells of a story that happened in a particular year, then she segues right into another story that happened 3 years later. And if you don't pay attention, you will not catch that she is talking about another event that happened at a totally different time and place. Sometimes, many years later. I think it is from being nervous . By the way, Hank Parkhurst blamed Bill W. for the reason Ruth wouldn't marry him. He had a resentment against Bill until he died, apparently.
