Hey Julia I am a diehard foller of Tracy Myers. I totally agree she is a fantastic. When it comes to upcycle. But i like your channel aswel. I learn and get lots of ideas from you. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Julia! I've been watching you for years. Your free motion stitching is the best. Your artistic creations are inspiring. Traci popped up on my feed about 1 1/2 years ago, and I love her uninhibited approach to upcycling. It was so nice of you to mention her and her channel. The two of you are my favorite you tube channels. Besides being a great artist, you are thoughtful to others!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for being a faithful watcher of my videos. This is such a wonderful sewing community. I love sharing ideas and watching what others are are doing in their creative projects. Traci is such a n inspiration. Have a great week! Julia
Yes… I have followed Tracy for over a year… she is so inspiring…. And so are you. Both tracy and you are my main up cycles… thanks for sharing. So helpful!
Great video...my wife will love this, she does not sew, so I can take care of that. And I can say that craft paint is perm on most fabric since most of my cloths have paint on them and it does not come out.
I laughed at your comment! I have special paint clothes and you are so right! Paint is very staining. I even have worked with watercolor paints of fabric with good washing results! Thanks so much for watching, Julia
Thanks for sharing Julia! These jeans turned out lovely and cute and I adore the stencil bits, they are the ”icing of the cake”! I watch Traci’s channel too but have watched your channel for years and love your neat and very artistic work! You don’t have to use larger jeans to do this, it’s actually a perfect way to enlarge a pair that is too small, just add a strip wide enough along the whole seam as you’re sewing them back together again. I learned the hammer method from Traci and I think it works wonders on ALL bulky seams. It was a game changer for me as I sew a lot of bags. I use a larger, heavier hammer than you and really wack it good. I do it on my cuttingtable on top of the mat.
I adore Traci! I just came across your channel a few weeks ago and also love your creativity and techniques. Both of you do my style and I am so appreciative of you!
I follow both you and Traci! I've used the hammer trick before and It works great if you use a Big Hammer!! Use the big one and really wack the denim. I prefer seam ripping the entire right side seam out then sew it back together, I like that better than the cutting. I resized my hubby's old size 36 jeans into a pair of patched skater shorts. I had to alter the waist over 4". They look really cool! Thank you for sharing all your ideas! You are so creative
I am a huge fan of both you & Traci.. I have made 4 pairs of jeans inspired by Traci's method.. these jeans that you created are adorable!!! ps, I prefer "free motion" for this type of applique too.
I'm so glad I found Traci's channel. She is such an inspiration. Once you discover free-motion, it's hard to go back LOL. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
Hi Julia, having used acrylic before there was any "medium" to add, I have found that if you let it dry then iron over it using a cloth or press sheet, it will be permanent and no problem.
Thank you for sharing... I too subscribe to Traci's channel... she is the best and so much fun to watch her amazing ability to change something bland to something special. Happy stitching !
Wonderful upcycle, Julia! I’m a fan of Traci too. I’m thinking of trying cutting from the bottom up to near the waistband and stopping, so I don’t have to sew the thick parts together. Do you think this would work? Thank you so much! Bonnie
I think it is great to stop before the waistband as long as the jeans fits you well, if not it is good to have the opportunity to adjust the size by cutting through the waistband My opinion 😊
Thank you Julia, you’ve given me some great ideas … I’ve got several really old embroidery linens that I want to use but wasn’t sure how. I’m going to incorporate them into the sweatshirt jacket I’m making. I ❤your channel, new subscriber here!
Thank you so much for subscribing. I love collecting old linens. I usually look for those that are damaged so I don't feel so guilty cutting them up -LOL. Happy stitching, Julia
I follow Tracy too. I like your creativity as much as hers. Beautiful project. The quote of the day;“You can’t use up creativity. The more the you use, the more you have.” -Maya Angelou. Huge HUGS! Namesta 🐞🐞🐞
As a person that sews lots of things, if I were to cut it apart, I would not cut through the jeans above the pockets to the waistband. I think if you use jeans that are only one size bigger or your actual size you could still do the side seam the way that you did for the distressing. I like your thoughts on how you do it the best. You don’t overdo it.
They turned out just gorgeous! Love them. Would have liked to see them on at the end - you cropped the length, was that because they were too long for you? Or are they meant to be cropped (e.g. gaucho pants)?
Hi, I usually make my jeans cropped. The bottoms are used in other projects. I sell most of the my thrifted jeans at my summer flea market shop. I have found that capris and cropped pants sell better in the summer.
I will definitely follow your advice on the lowering the pressure on my foot. I have never done that. Thank you! I do use a heavy needle- a must when you are sewing over denim seams. Thank you so much for the tips! Julia
Well it doesn’t come out the same actually. When you patch a hole from the back with a straight seam and then wash and tumbledry you get a cute fraying of the denim around the hole on the front.
I think keeping consistent stitching on all patches is more cohesive. If you were to purchase boutique jeans like these patches are not fused on. Just another point of view. We all love Julia's techniques.
Adding the patch behind a hole gives another texture. When washed, the denim fabric will fray, giving it this fun look. It's all a matter of preference. Thanks for watching, Julia
I've been watching you for longer, but I love Traci's channel too! I can't wait for both of you to post new videos! ❤ I love that you have shared your version of her upcycles! That's just the best Julia! I love the gusset on the insides! You're amazing! Thanks as always! 🥰 Brenda 🪻 (I just bought a HUGE box of ribbon, lol. Wanna come by and go thru it? 😉 I'm in Chino Valley, Az if you ever get this way!!!)
Hi Brenda, Your ribbons sound tempting. We will have to get together but it'll have to be another season. My daughter is coming this week and staying through Easter. Then we will be heading back to MN. They just got a foot of snow back there but we have some things to do. So off we go. I'll be filming a video of my AZ sewing area this week. I finally fixed it up. It's small but all my spaces are small these days LOL Thanks for watching, Traci is such an inspiration!
@@stitchesbyjulia oh how fun! But a foot of snow? Holy cow! Enjoy your daughter! Maybe next year we can meet part way! Take care and I'll be looking for that next video. 😍 Brenda 🪻

You should model them so we can see what they look like
You probably know this but in case not--increasing the presser foot pressure as well as a thicker needle can help with thick seams
I will definitely follow your advice on the lowering the pressure on my foot. I have never done that. Thank you! I do use a heavy needle- a must when you are sewing over denim seams. Thank you so much for the tips! Julia

Julia, I really love your channel but I have a small problem I need to talk about with you. How may I contact you?
Hi, My email is stitchesbyjulia@yahoo.com
Julia I don’t understand why you cut out a hole and sew from the back. Just fuse the patch and save a step. Comes out the same
Well it doesn’t come out the same actually. When you patch a hole from the back with a straight seam and then wash and tumbledry you get a cute fraying of the denim around the hole on the front.
