      Yojimbo711 most of the talent here is in his right hand in the way he picks his riffs and chords.

    • @Yojimbo711
      @Yojimbo711 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      James Melton Nah I disagree, the talent is equally shared between being able to play these quick right hand riffs and writing them as the initial commenter stated, being able to formulate those melodies and embed them in multi accented rythms is remarkable.

    • @jamesmelton5245
      @jamesmelton5245 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yojimbo711 his tone is achieved through the way he picks many players can finger the notes and not sound like him because they aren't picking like him.

    I absolutely love the tone in this video. I have to say it again. To think I once hated blindly on anything EMG 81. Yet when I go back and look at all my favorite recordings, they were done with an EMG 81 or 81-7. Funny how it works being a sheep. Bought an Ibanez Iron Label 6'er last weekend. EMG 81/60, and I've never been happier with my heavy tones. I still have a strat for low gain applications that aren't cleans (the 60 has the best cleans i've ever heard. And 90% of what I do is high gain anyway.
    Kudos to EMG for making a pickup that whose tone I unknowingly chased for years while simultaneously jumping on the hate train. I bought Bare Knuckle BlackHawks, and Dimarzio D'activators in that time and they still never lived up.

    • @SuperItalia494
      @SuperItalia494 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude, his rhythm is something else... It seems to only be natural and unique to himself (covers on TH-cam just don't cut it). Plus, his right hand's accuracy, flow and feel, is just amazing to watch but, also seriously difficult and technical.
      I personally, wouldn't get too cut up about not perfecting his technique/songs... They truly are masterpieces of this new Djent style of guitar playing.
      I'm currently trying to learn: Leeloo - Veil of Maya... That is seriously a hard song to tackle and master. Check it out, if you haven't already...
      Anyway, hoped this helped :)

    • @kellyg4812
      @kellyg4812 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SuperItalia494 word up man I totally agree. Yeah I started learning leeloo when it first came out but unfortunately I don't have a guitar with a whammy bar on it so I couldn't bend the harmonics. So I gave up on it haha. started working on Punisher by VOM and my skills improved a lot just by that one song.

    • @SuperItalia494
      @SuperItalia494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I have the same issue. I've got a fixed bridge so, no crazy stuff like that, for me. I still can't wrap my head around the verse riff tho, that syncopated rhythm just doesn't flow yet with me haha.
      I'll get out Punisher for sure tho...
      The ultimate song that I want to one day learn is Behold - Born Of Osiris. I can't even begin to know how to even start that one! haha

    I love Djent for the rhythm but I can't wait till they start working the rhythm into other strings... I don't know if anyone else agrees with me but the rhythm is very funk so you could almost say that there will be a strong use of funk lead as djent grows

    • @Pakanahymni
      @Pakanahymni 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always viewed it to be in the low strings for the sheer purpose of forming the rhythmical backbone which sounds more percussive when done in synch with the kick for example. I can see why it doesn't feel purposeful, especially with bands like Volumes who just don't seem to "get it".

    • @soysauce9296
      @soysauce9296 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What you call 'djent' I call 'progressive metal,' and I'm pretty sure what you're describing has been around for some time, it's just that you're probably new to the genre. Gravitate towards the more jazz-influenced acts. John Browne is known for his rhythmic grooves and "Milton cleans," so I wouldn't expect what you're talking about out of him. He's my favorite songwriter on Earth, but he has his own formula.

    • @zsreich
      @zsreich 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thats how you get a good sounding pick attack and its important for metal even with active pickups. If you don't pick heavy the sound is not heavy.

    • @liamyates5544
      @liamyates5544 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      totally agree,i just thought it was weird how evryone was tripping over his right hand. that is howyou have to play in metal. with power. thats what makes us so good at transitioning :))))

    • @zsreich
      @zsreich 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He also mostly seems to downpick everything instead of alternate pick. I think that also helps.

    • @liamyates5544
      @liamyates5544 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, when you're playing more rythmical/djenty stuff the the alternate picking technique isnt used so much. mainly because people use alot of hammer ons and pulloffs on every other string except the top one.

    • @filipepassos-coelho6661
      @filipepassos-coelho6661 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      *****
      downpicking also helps accentuate certain parts, by incorporating triplets into the riff to change the groove and make it less boring.
      and also, totally agree with the consistency of downpicking. imagine the Master of Puppets' riff being played in alternate picking... it loses a fuckton of power! i started recording for my band earlier this month and i had to halt it because, with alternate picking, i didn't get the strong consistent attacks i wanted, so I'm practicing downstrokes like a mad man.
