your fawn ages in real time and it takes a month to grow up properly. You can also change your appearance, and a lot of people just let the game run in the background as a screensaver. Especially if they were a kid in the 2010s-2000s who played it back then

Mmmmm, maybe it's just my "being chronically chained to the internet for 20+ years" but these were pretty weak examples of "disturbing MMOs". I don't think any MMO is truly free of pdf files, or people who are out to just spread viruses and malware, but nothing in this video was disturbing to the point where I went "wow". Needless to say I think the most "disturbing" one was the deer one tbh lol.

So Second Life isn't a kid's game, it is intended to be played by adults which is why it has a lot of adult themes, also it's not actually free, in order to do pretty much anything you have to pay but luckily it is pay as you go and not subscription based, the subscription just gives you some extra things that aren't important, you can also make money in the game and withdraw it into your bank account, the most common ways of making money are from adult services, selling clothes you've made, selling furniture you've made, landscaping for people, real estate or being a DJ like me. As for the world size the answer is infinite and there is literally something for everybody since Second Life literally is the metaverse and at one point had big companies and even governments involved in it with their own presence in the world (You are fully capable of walking around London in the game)

Just one example, as a consequence of having a large contiguous continental mainland with oceans connecting them alongside a robust wind physics system, realistic sailing came about from some very smart passionate folks almost 2 decades ago; fast forward to today, the sailing scene is extremely robust and is one of the most realistic sailing physics simulators ever made.

as a long time player of HKO back in the beginning I can firmly say that feature was not present in the EU or SEA servers, wether it was present on the Japanese servers or not I am not aware of but the Europe and South East Asian servers did not have this feature.
I put well over 5000 hours into the game across both servers and was given the role of guild treasurer and Farmer of one of the larger guilds in the EU servers, ultimately HKO collapsed as the devs stopped caring, multipule bugs and game breaking glitches in the upper level areas and many broken features lead to it failure, the lack of caring also aflicted the SanrioTown Email service that was linked with the game (you needed a ST account to play) eventually no support was provided if there was any service failures and may god have mercy on your soul if you forgot your email password
Ultimately HKO was a great idea bought to life by people who couldnt care less

fun(?) fact, second life used to have a server for older kids + teenagers. i used to play on it when i was 10 and had a lot of fun on it (mostly because i was a 10 year old with no filter or social awareness so i talk talk to anyone and say anything without a shred of shame or embarrassment). even on the teen server there were risque elements, of course you wouldn't walk around and see overt s3x shops on the streets and nsfw avatars hanging out but i came across tons of pose spheres that were for making out and cuddling, and sometimes tucked away in certain locations (usually player houses which were usually open for all to enter) full on nsfw animations. i didn't interact with any of that stuff since i was a 10 year old, but i always felt creeped out when i would find them.
i always got the impression that there were a lot of adults around, and now that i'm older i know that this was indeed the case seeing as how most if not all player made assets were made by adults, and all the people who had land and homes were more often than not adults too. me and my friends got scolded by a literal grown adult real estate agent for loitering on their land and rping far in the sky above their island. it was always really easy to tell who was another kid and who was an adult based on how they talked and interacted with me. we were all told that it was a space for kids and teens to meet and have fun, but everything we interacted with was built by adults looking to profit off of us and exploit us
i mostly just played with a few other kids i befriended in-game, people who i would probably still be friends with now if the server didn't get shut down so fast and unexpectedly. kinda makes me wonder if there was more to it shutting down than it just not being profitable enough

@@sawmanUK Mhmm! SL tried to split everything into general, moderate, and adult content earlier on. And you still see those content warnings around, but they're sort of vestigial in the current version of Second Life.
I always assumed that they had trouble keeping Second Life sfw, so they eventually just gave up and decided to only cater to adults.
And... yeah... Second Life's economy is entirely player driven, and some players only play for the potential of making money off of other users and otherwise don't really "play" the game. Landlords are especially prone to that, and some landlords rent out to other landlords. Its landlords all the way down, and its prooobably the biggest issue I have with SL's economy.

second life is very strange and very depraved. I used to play it a lot, but I can only take it in very small doses nowadays.
it's non-vr vrchat but with astronomically less groomers. Technically no limit to what you can do or make, but that obviously will attract some undesirables.
The ageplay people are degens and largely shunned by the community as a whole, but thankfully they're all just weird adults RPing with each other and don't involve any actual children.
That being said, did you know what some of the Lindens (developers) *themselves* have been outed as prolific ageplayers? Was a huge fiasco. Wild stuff
Also I think it's funny how you managed to stumble into the slmc (the combat guys with guns) community during your first session.

Second Life is probably not your cup of tea, but there's one thing you mainly need to know about second life. There's the mainland, which is basically the "curateD" areas of second life, either officially put together by Lindon Labs themselves, or made by community members with moderation. For the most part, that stuff is rather tame, even what you discussed in your video. (save for the cheese pizza stuff of course, honestly that stuff is unavoidable right now anywhere there is a social media presence; twitter, discord, second life, etc). The majority of the content in second life that has people playing it takes place in regions/sims bought by players, on islands, that you need a teleport link to get to. They are basically entirely hands off and as long as the people running them don't break any laws or allow people visiting to breaks laws, they can do whatever the hell they want with them. Some of the games and rpg's are actually VERY well made (there's even a dead by daylight inspired game on SL!) But also a lot of fetishy content.

For Second Life, the reason they started to clamp down on ageplay only this year is because it was revealed that Eric Nix (also known as Patch Linden in the game), one of the company's vice presidents, was deeply involved in the ageplay community, even hosting real life PDF file content in his personal worlds in the game and had groomed his now real life husband from the game when he was still a minor. Linden Lab (the creators) attempted to cover it up, and still has him employed in the company. This revelation and the company's lack of action against him caused a massive drop in player population, which is a big reason why it is so dead today.

As far as Second Life goes, when you go to a club you're going to be greeted by a host, DJ, and probably dancers all trying to make money off tips. They're going to be personable and greet you, but yes many come off as bots (there's only so many ways to welcome someone to a club). I was a very successful host for a year or so, I know how it is. If you choose to go into adult, or even moderate, areas you're going to get what you would expect to see in those areas. If you go for something specific, that's what you'll end up finding. For now, I'm doing a lot of farming, raising pets (there are some really cool pet/breedables in there) as well as building on my little plot of land. Also, you have to keep in mind that the majority of Second Life's playerbase has some social disorders, or other disorders, that may prevent them from interacting with the real world like everyone else and it really is their first life to be on there, experiencing things they can't in real life. It may also be the only social interaction they're able to have. I've made some lasting friendships in there with people so it's a fun experience for me. I've also been in some uncomfortable situations, or things that I would consider wrong. It's a good thing to leave all I have to do is teleport out and not go back to that sim.

Second life is actually a curious case because it's not a game properly saying but a virtual world where the devs offers the landscape and about 99% of the content is created by the users and as you can imagine there's a lot of stupid ideas brought in. Yes it is considered adult for that reason and for what i know it had a "teen" version of it long ago but it was taken down due to several complications and lack of income (teenagers without money? who would predict that?)
Still some people seems to make a living with it since you can design 3d models among other things and upload them to sell but the most curious is that the system itself allow you to withdraw your currency and deposit it directly in your bank account after conversions fees and apparently one person even became rich by investing in land.
Weird, yes but somehow i don't see it as harmful... i guess

Second Life is definitely an interesting case of a game that kept evolving. The current new player experience is at least better than older versions, but the avatar system it introduces is kinda bad (compared to off the shelf, purchased avatars that most people use). Many people will also appear naked because it takes a second for clothing bits and all that to load in.
What is great however, is that the world is entirely created by the users. Avatars, worlds, mechanics, etc. Definitely a game for adults, however. Quite a lot of people you'll run into are well past 'millenial' age demographic even. Any and all controversies about weird sexual fetishes are all within their own respective communities, regardless of participation in SL.
Also, it's a social MMO. The content is your interaction with other people....

I've been in and out of Second Life for years now and it's odd in a lot of places but well made in a lot of places as well. It's a tribal wildwest as a whole as each sim has their own set of rules whether they're posted or unsaid but known and the community per sim moderates in, ( I pulled an f-1 Fighter Jet out of a Trashcan full of free stuff in the London Sim and accidentally pulled it out of my pocket, flying into everything without physics and was quietly banned for 2 days because of that. . .) but it's a relaxing experience if you find places to chill that fit your vibe and have people actively talking about stuff, in college I had a handful of sims I'd go to and just talk about stuff with at the end of the day which was relaxing but exploring other sims I found everything from recreations of Pokemon towns to vacant trailer parks full of organs and things. . . But it's how much you are willing to sift through to find something that you like.

The pressure! I did make it to the part of the video where the obligatory, "Subscribe. You made it this far." Pressure sale tactic is used.
I had honestly forgotten about it and hadn't contemplated subbing until it was brought to my attention by the guy narrating. I was just enjoying the content. Lost in my world and the world of this video where he's digging into the MMO world. I was levels deep and time was different.
Now ripped back to reality I realized that I hadn't figured out if I was going to sub! The pressure was too much, so sudden, and it blinded me. I couldn't recall if I had really enjoyed the video or not. I screamed to be free of the pressure! It was relentless and I knew a choice had to be made. There was no way around it now. Even if I choose to not choose I have still made a choice. The fucking narrator had made sure of that. Now, here I am.

A hen party is an old fashioned term used by men mostly to describe a small group of women who meet for coffee, participate in a hobby group like, knitting, quilting, to celebrate an engagement, birthday, new job etc. It is so named because of the talking that takes place. If you have ever seen a group of chickens in the barnyard, the cluck, cluck, clucking occurs for no reason (known to the average human), almost non-stop. I always felt the term hen party was a derogatory description meaning the female talk was of no importance. Hens cluck a lot while egg laying and in times of stress. The larger the eggs, the harder they are to pass and it is not unreasonable to imagine that it hurts the chicken.

    • @rossstewart9475
      @rossstewart9475 หลายเดือนก่อน

That phrase is very well known where I'm from and refers to what an American would call a "bachelorette party". Sometimes it might be called a "hen night" instead, and is the bride's equivalent of what we'd call a "stag party"; In each case both the hen and stag are engendered terms for chicken and deer, and it's not uncommon to hear the greeting "y'alright hen?"
Though the slight pejorative element does exist - you'll mostly hear that greeting from older men - I've never in my fifty years heard it described in the way you have here, and indeed the bride herself will refer to it as her "hen do", "hen party", or "hen night".
Where did you get your definition from?

@@rossstewart9475 I lived out in the sticks for a while. There seemed to be hundreds of crows. I love to observe things and so became fascinated by them. I saw them do a great many things that impressed me.
One of the coolest things I noticed was that crows have their own fight club. I never quite figured out why, but I developed a few potential theories.
Many times over the years I was drawn to my observation post by an upper story window by the aggressive chattering and squawking of crows and the beating of their wings. The crows would form a ring, their wings splayed out and two contestants would enter and do battle. It was a sight to see. The noise was incredible. Feathers would be ruffled, pride would be bruised, but I never saw any true injuries.
The two combatants would tire and two more would leap into the cackling, hostile ring. This would sometimes go on for hours if nothing disturbed them and then off they'd go, back to the trees, leaving nothing but silence, feathers, and poo.

I think most of the SL marketplace is filled by shops that are equivalent to dropshippers these days, and a lot of them are only there to make a profit. But it was originally seen as a way for users to make their own content, and be compensated for it.
I still sometimes try to support the artists I like, but it can be hard to tell who is making their own content and who is importing 3D models from their favorite games.

I think it had Camelot or Excalibur or something related to King Arthur in the name. No it wasn't Dark Age of Camelot. Yeah, those lists were pretty trash back then.
EDIT: The game in question was Sherwood Dungeon, which is a reference to Robin Hood, not Arthurian Legend.

But they could only claim the patent if it were still in use. So that’s why the owner has kept the game going all this time. Maybe the patent ran out or something.

I've been playing Second Life for like 16 years and this was so out of touch with what SL actually is that I loved it from how far away from the actual point it is, you missed it for like a million light years, but it's alright. Of course we all are entitled to our opinions but SL isn't a game you can actually get to know within a couple of hours, it's extremely complex. It's not limited to "hubs" or "areas" the world is literally endless, and also you can make actual money in it (I do). It's also not meant to be played by kids although many many years ago there was a teen version but it was merged into the main world then shut down iirc. The thing is, SL is an adult oriented game, and yeah there's horny people everywhere and bots and stuff, but you did not really see anything believe me.
    Anyways good video.
