    Shun Sato is from Sendai. He holds the junior world record for the free skate. In an interview, he mentioned that Yuzu has now started practicing during Ice Rink Sendai’s general opening hours instead of practicing in the middle of the night. 😂 He also said that their training times would coincide most of the time and he’s been getting helpful advice from Yuzu on jump techniques and that he’s very inspired to train ‘cause Yuzu is at the rink. We should probably start following him for Yuzu crumbs 😂

    Kostos relationship with her team really confuses me. We know that Daniil doesn't seem to like her. But at almost every competition Eteri tries to calm her down, joke with her or just support her in a almost loving way. As you said Eteri is really motherly towards her.

    Anna Scherba's fall on the attempted quad lutz was because she went to pick in but because her technique is so used to using a full blade takeoff she over did it and you could see she didn't actually pick in on contact but rather hit either the side of her blade or the actual boot and thus had no anchor point and went flying. So similar to Mao Asada's triple axel waxel wipeout from Worlds 2008. But just like Mao, she completely reset her mentality and was perfect the rest of the program.
    As say Scherbakova's mental strength is incredible. No one else but her could turn around the other end of the rink and land a perfect quad flip.

    • @killbethy
      @killbethy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I would also say the sort of donkey kick technique most of Eteri's girls use (especially on quads or the second triple in combination) didn't help either. She lifted her leg so high to pick in that when her weight rocked forward, she just slipped off the front since her full blade assistance gives her more blade room and weight transfer to occur instead of just using the pick to vault you and not primarily using it to jump off of.

    Just wanted to add that Shun is from Sendai and he was actually going to the rink where Yuzuru was skating before he moved to Canada. He gave an interview about it to a Japanese TV channel, he was 5 when he watched Yuzuru train and he was so impressed that he begged his mother to take him to one of Yuzuru's competitions. His mother agreed to take him to Yokohama to watch Yuzuru and they actually watched him compete and Shun got a chance to meet and talk to Yuzuru. Apparently, Yuzuru was so impressed by that kid that when they saw each other again in Sendai, Yuzuru gave Shun his necklace (the one Shun was wearing when he won JGP). Then the earthquake happened and shortly after Yuzuru moved to Canada. To this day, Yuzuru is still Shun's hero (he got so nervous when they met recently so he panicked and hid lol). His phone wallpaper is even a photo of them together. Shun has Yuzuru's explosiveness, his skating on the edge personality from pre-2013, maybe that's what gets me so excited. He and Kao are so chaotic lol
    I don't know why I shared the story, I just find this connection between two skaters from different generations so very interesting and admirable. And I love Yuzuru for supporting the younger generation of skaters, that's why Kao (who calls him a god lol), Shun, Sota etc love him so much, Kao and Sota even said he was so kind to them when they were younger and sent gifts to their rinks. Just like Arakawa supported Sendai rink and thanks to her Yuzuru was able to skate there :) Love when successful skaters support youngsters

    I don’t understand why the girls learn to do a loop entry to jumps. Doing a full blade flip/lutz looks so much more effort and leg work than using a toe pick, plus my back would hurt like a mf if I had to lean foward like that every jump.

    • @Mxlchn
      @Mxlchn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah. And that’s why they have so many injuries. Although it is actually easier to pre rotate on the ice. In a sense, it happens naturally (the pre rotation) with the full blade. Because by going on full blade, you are able to take off from the ball of the foot, which would give you more spring and lift, but it sacrifices distance of the jump. By using the toepick, it needs speed, timing and opening of the hips and in a sense, less consistent. Therefore, they choose to do flat blade.

    • @toxic-low-key-ghost7934
      @toxic-low-key-ghost7934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      @@anayarey The lutz is a jump which starts from an outside edge, and then your toe pick is supposed to tap the ice and elevate you. You’re supposed to have less than 1/4 pre rotation on the ice. It’s basically a light tap and then lift and rotation. Anna however starts from a flat edge and her whole blade touches the ground, instead of the toe pick meaning it’s wrong. She also has around 1/2 to sometimes even 3/4 pre rotation. So half of it is done on the ice and she takes off forward facing. And that’s the reason why she fell. She was so hunched forward it almost looked like she was bending down to toe her shoelaces or something when she was going for the jump, and she really has to dig her foot into the ice to get the jump in so she fell before she could even take off. You can see it in the slow motion as well. Hope that helped

  • @killbethy
    @killbethy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    It looks like Anna fell from the two pronged bad Eteri technique of using full blade assistance and donkey kicking (especially on quads and the second triple in combos). A true lutz should be using just the pick of your blade to use your momentum to vault you into the air. The Eteri girls tend to lift their picking leg VERY high and transfer a good deal (if not all) of their weight on to the full blade of the picking leg, making it almost identical to a loop takeoff (the same takeoff position is generally used for their Flips as well). It looks like Anna went to try to pick in more than use her full blade, but because her free leg was still too high when she went to kick down like she would with full blade assistance, she slipped off the front of the blade on her skating foot.

    Yuma was good for the first half of the freeskate, but the second half was shaky. He was the rightful winner, but his components are waaaaay inflated. Wakaba was the star for the ladies. Idk why she doesn’t get high component scores when she has one of the best step sequences. Anna’s performance is troubling, she’s lucky the judges didn’t call the dings on her jumps and her spins have been way off compared to previous years. Won’t be surprised if she retires after the olympics. Aliona was better here interpretation wise, but she needs the axel to be consistent, and just like Anna, they had hella inflated component scores, esp with falls in the program. Regarding the technique thing, indeed there is nothing explicit in the ISU rulebook abt pre-rotation or whatever you wanna call it. But remember that what they’re doing are “jumps” so the rotations are supposed to be done while the skater is airborne, however, for their quads and triples, they do 1/2 to 3/4 of the first rotation on the ice, that is why skating fans are irked by this technique. And notice how other skaters get edge calls but they don’t? Surely lots of politics. But in my eyes, Aliona won the short and Wakaba won the free 😀

    Anna should have been 2nd in the short. Aliona should have been 1st. Anna's toepick never got into the ice for her lutz takeoff, hence the fall. Her technique is bad because of all the pre-rotation/faulty edges/take-offs she has on her jumps. And she has the worst feet & legs, always turned in. But her desire to win is far beyond any other competitor! Plus, she's always over scored.
    Sinitsyna looks too much like a junior skater. She's slow and her jumps are tiny. Not surprised she ended up 4th. She has a quad but was injured so it's not in her pgrm.

    Actually, Maiia has the same horrible entrance into her flip and lutz. She doesn't use her toepick to vault her into the air. In fact, at Rostelecom, she had the same type of miss on her triple lutz as Anna but Maiia used her entire blade to at least get the jump off and rotate it. It's really bad technique Eteri teaches. Watch Maiia's flip & lutz in slow motion, there's no pick, it's the full blade, so actually it is NOT a triple flip or lutz, it's more like a loop. Judges still give her credit for it, which is unfortunate. Tuktamysheva has a textbook lutz take off. Morisi Kvitelashvili's quad toe takes off of 2 flat feet (full blade on both feet), NO toe pick, which makes it more of a salchow. Another example of Eteri's bad teaching technique. Yet, at Rostelecom, he got good GOE marks. Smh!

    Can we please have Alena on Olympics please😭 her programs, presence, skating skills, height of jumps is one of a kind🤩 I mean that’s not only talent, but from her old performances it seems like she worked hard for it. I thought it was just me who notice low jumps but in recent interview Medvedeva mentioned her low jumps saying having a good height is either natural or you work hard for it. There are so many scenarios how Olympics could go, Kami repeating Alina story or Sochi 2014 Lipnitskaya then Anna as Adelina getting the gold whatever but I can’t make up one where everyone is happy🤪 I will be happy with Alena winning the gold. if Liza makes a team, even bronze will be treated and accepted as gold as she is competing with herself mostly, Alena will get massive media coverage anyway 🌟 I am fascinated by how Kamila is the best she has ever been not bc of jumps, spins and hype, but rather mentally - she has never been so strong even as a junior winning everything like Sofiia these days, now she does feel like it’s her time and she looks up to Alina a lot, so maybe it motivates her too.

      Aliona will have FGP and Nationals to show her best performances, but so far she and Liza have the worst chances for slots in the Olympic team, since trixels lose to quads at base cost with the same skating.
      if you want to see all the best skaters, you need to increase the number of slots for the Russian women's skating team, there is no other option :-)

I suppose she’s a part of the old Soviet training system. It would be great to hear what you have to say as usual😊🙏♥️⛸🇷🇺

    To much bias towards Anna. The way you never say about her overscoring and the fact she literally robed Waka and Alena. Also her “strength” comes only from that in fact she knows judges always put her first. Just look like it works otherway on Alena confidence in FS with underscoring in SP.

    Anna's fall was a slip, stop the delusional hate 😂 the comments are full of delusional fans blaming her fall on "bad technique" if that was the reason, she would be falling ALL THE TIME, use common sense. Anna changed her program jump locations mid program, she slipped and didn't like the ice in that location. The fact that other skaters slipped IN THE EXACT LOCATION should tell you there was an issue with the ice that caused the slip.

    I'm a Kosto fan and was never that into Anna, but she has proven SO consistent. Imo Anna and Kamila are clear "ins" for Russia. The last spot is a battle between Kosto, Liza, and Maya. Possibly Sasha if she recovers. Aliona def has to get 3A down more to earn it... i think she can. it prob all comes down to Russian Nats and Grand Prix.... then again I can also see them sending Maya over Kosto and Liza just due to internal "politics" : /

    Also, is anyone getting worried seeing Anna go all out like this? I think she knows this is her final season of competition and is pushing through to try to get her GPF Gold and Olympic medals. If she was focused on her long term health, I think she would be either backing out of competitions or playing it a bit more safe. We know she has health issues that will have to be addressed sooner or later, but what she is throwing out there right now makes me think it's a push through the pain now and deal with it later type of behavior. If she planned to continue skating at this level, I honestly think we would be seeing easier programs or for her to take a break and rely on Eteri and the Russian Federation to send her due to her consistent background and what will most likely be a high enough placement at nationals, especially since Daria is out of the game and Sasha is struggling with her own health issues and not participating in the rest of the GP.

    JSF almost always goes with top 3 at Nationals unless it's someone like Hanyu or Asada hurt. Unless Kaori wins GPF(LOL), none of these girls are going to get a free pass. I agree JSF have always hated Higuchi going back to juniors and love Kaori, and it seems Mai this year. But if Higuchi is clean at Nats, she is much better than all the Japanese except healthy Kihira. She just needs to avoid pops or falls and they wont be able to keep her off the podium.

    I'm disappointed that you didn't talk about Maya's embarrassing winning in Warsaw Cup. I mean, it was like, Why winning thanks to your talent if you can win thanks to being Russian/Tutberidze girl. Outrageous that this awkward performance is considered first place now. Also, funny how unobjectively Russian can get when it's about their own athletes winning with underserved performances.

  • @anonimi7062
    @anonimi7062 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Sorry but you're not objective about a Anna and it's not fair. I understand the enthusiasm around Kamila, or Sasha's jumps, but Aliona is no longer interesting, and Anna is not appreciated enough, her skating is the most beautiful, honest and exciting, with these delicate jumps that are perfectly combined with her skating, she's a slightly less athletic version of Kamila and the best skater after her.

    • @funsies7147
      @funsies7147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Sorry, completely disagree with your last sentence. Anna's jumps are no where near powerful. Delicate for sure but not powerful. Her prerotation is even more excessive than Kamila's which is saying a lot... Also, out of all the eteri girls, she has the worst lutz edge that is never called on in addition to complete full blade assistant. It's truly not fair that she gets such high GOEs on her toe jumps when they prerotate over 3/4 and she's using full blade assistant. It's also not fair that her edges are never called. Sasha has a bad flip edge and the flip has been called every single time this season. Anna is definitely the most strong in terms of mentality and that is super impressive. She also has great musicality and interpretation skills but let's not pretend that her jumping skills are amazing.

    • @funsies7147
      @funsies7147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@anonimi7062 Hi, yeah sorry again but I disagree. I think she's better than Kamila at emotional performance, Kamila doesn't give face and she looks scared the entire time. I actually think she's the best out of all the eteri girls at emotional performance. However, I don't think she is the best nor the most exciting after Kamila. I wouldn't even put Kamila as first (let's not even get into Kamila's jump techniques). You mentioned her skating and her skating skills aren't really that good. The only eteri girl with good skating skills is Alena although it has deteriorated a lot. Anna has extremely labored back cross overs, shallow edges, two-footed skating throughout the step sequences. Additionally, her spins travel and are slow. She has good lines and points her toes which adds to musicality but the technical aspect of the spins are lacking.

    • @anonimi7062
