Hi All - apologies that many of you will have watched this before - its a re-upload because the audio wasn't right on the 1st one. I made a mistake & allowed the 1st video to go up with the camera audio on as well. The new video is just the close mics on the guitar amp, so it sounds how it should without the annoying "live" sound. If you watched the 1st video, no need to re-watch this video as the content is the same. Cheers & sorry! Lee
+CaptAnderton Fair enough - I thought something sounded a little off with the first upload. Gonna watch this again to see if I like the pedals even more!
Can i just say thanks for using an amp we all know, and guitars we are all familiar with.... It makes a BIG difference. Love the a/b/y pedal idea also.. Progress.
Ok. I am a bit late to the Tone City game here, but I just got a Model B. I have to say this: it’s like plugging into a boogie. It makes my tiny practice amp sound like a wall of either Rectifiers or Mark-series. These things are incredible.
Great people of Anderton's to this day you're the only TH-cam channel to have a deep look at these pedals. Everybody has done Model M of King Of Blues but not the other ones. I like the model S and E as well i wish you would have tried the S with more riffs then just solos, it would have been also nice to hear them at less gain to see how they fare at more bluesy sounds but i guess i'm about 5 years late to the conversation 🙂
I love using pedals on fender amps and vox amps they are my fav amps and people wouldnt think rock or anything more of a blues sound but they sound great with overdrive pedals just amazing classic rock bluesy thick tones my fav
Hi Lee and Rob. Greetings from sunny Miami, Florida, USA. Thanks for all the great, informative, entertaining vids. I loved the guitar mod challenge, pedal board quest and Miku pedal review best. As a Gibson Explorer devotee, I'd love to see you guys review the new 2016 Explorers. A show on pickups and a review of Zvex's Fuzz Factory 7 would be much appreciated. Keep up the great work and keep rockin'! Have a great day!
+Duke Ukulele Bit of a silly comment.. Perhaps you've got a good amp geared towards playing blues and you'd just like to have the possibility to get some high gain sound? Loads of reasons to get these kind of pedals.
I've been using Boss ME-25 with my Fender FM212R and i can get really good Rectifier sounds and they are REALLY high gain, adding that to a 100w solid state makes me jizz almost.
Hey Rob, What do you Think about making a Chapman Guitars SG- Type Model? An Affordable one with only one Pickup (like a Chapman Passive Agressive or some AlNiCo 2 Pickup) in the Bridge ; a Mahagony Body and a Recessed bolt on Maple Neck and a baked maple or rosewood Fingerboard and a Volume and Tone knob in a natural Finish
+tiemen bosma It is actually the most popular gibson guitar. young eric clapton, tony iommi, and of course angus young are users of the Sg. here check them out: www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Standard.aspx
I think you guys were right on with the pedal models. My favorite are the Boogie one and the SLO one. It's amazing how they are really modeled on the real amps since the Vintage Boogie needed some bass rolled off (like my MK V) and the SLO needed some less mids (like the real amp)
I got the Model V about 2 months ago, and love it. It sounds amazing. I also got the Tape Machine about a month ago, and love that too. I'm waiting for the Angel wing Chorus to arrive. The folks at Tone City know what they are doing.
A correction to something stated in the video at around 6:10. The boost is only activated after the start button has been already activated, you cannot activate the boost on its own (that's why the LED doesn't light up). I have several of the Tone City pedals ( King of Blues, Model B, Model M and Model V). I would not recommend the Model M, IT doesn't sound anything like the Model M used in the video. It's very noisy and I think that Tone City has had some QC issues with that particular pedal. The first one I received was faulty, it almost blew out my amps speaker after switching it on. The replacement was not a whole lot better and seems to have gotten worse in the 5 months that I've had it. The Model M in the video's crunch is turned up to 3 o'clock, I cant turn mine up pasted 10 o'clock(a fraction of the setting used in the video) without getting enough noise that your eyes and ears would bleed. I will also point out that there was a 2 month delay for the Model M compared tot the other Tone City pedals that I ordered that would also allude to QC issues. On the Model M you can barely turn up any of the settings without an unbearable level of noise. The Model V is by far a superior pedal. If I was too go back to the day I placed my order I'd probably only buy the Model V and the King of Blues. The Model B is actually a pretty decent pedal but just has limited use for me. The model M has decent tones but good luck hearing them over all the white noise
These pedals kind of amount to a more analog approach to amp modelling. You can buy an amp modeler, or you can buy a basic clean amp and just plug these in as modelers. I actually like this approach. These are cool.
Think it's so interesting how these pedals are kind of set up right to left. "Engine A" on the right, for instance. All 'coz they're made in the Far East! Cool!
Best Regards from Bali...Minutes 8:45 YES this Model M pedal is Real "WOW" Marsh-Pedal :) We live in East World and want to make a Good music but all of us made pedal are high-priced. So Thanks for #Boss #Ibanez and #Tonecity whom made our dream come true to make a Good Music with affordable FX stuff. And Thanks to #Captain and #Rob and #Andertonmusic for making this Video :)
Late to the Tone City party. Picked up a Model B on an eBay roll of the dice, and holy smokes.. as amps-in-boxes go, it’s a better Boogie than either my VH4 or Überschall. How is it that that foundational modern metal tone is so much easier to nail, or at least land in the ballpark of? And I’m thinking the Model E is more EVH than Engl or Egnater, though that 3p mid switch made me think Tweaker at first, or maybe Ecstacy (Bogner)
The E pedal font looks similar to the font on the Dual Rectifier, so I'm guessing maybe the long lost Rev E Dual rec, but there's already a boogie pedal.
Model M boost light not working unless the start button pushed... it's a true bypass so to me it makes sense that the light won't activate if the drive isn't activated.
I could have sworn I saw in one of the Andertons videos for Tone City pedals that all their pedals come with Velcro adhesive pads, mine didn't. Velcro is surprisingly more expensive than I would have thought. I would have bought online if I'd known. It cost me about €15 extra to do my homemade pedal board (I'm a cheap f'cker) and pedals and I still have to buy more because I forgot to get enough for the other part of my order that comes at the end of the month
Just a question, is these in front in the amp or in effect loop? Sounds like I want to sound to, king of blues.....Mmmh, so good!!!!! I have to have it if it's in front in the amp! (I've no effect loop in my amp!)
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the issue of the boost light not coming on unless the drive side is engaged just mean the drive and the boost are not independent from each other? For instance, a Zvex Box of Rock has an independent boost that can be used apart from the drive whereas the Fulltone Fulldrive has a dependent boost that can only be turned on with the drive engaged.
No you're right, but they're saying the issue with the boost light is that you can't tell if the boost is going to be on when you turn the pedal back on, because you can still turn the boost on and off while the pedal is "off", even though it doesn't change anything with the tone until the pedal is back on
I think the amp mics needed to be bumped up a db or 2 after the room mics are removed. The Marshall and Vox sounded good. No doubt borrowing from the micro versions already out there. The Soldano sounded like a Soldano. Not my thing but its pretty accurate. The boogie was decent and the "E" is something of an "Enigma" Nice Rush quote Rob...
Would be even better if they had a cab sim like the Joyo pedals have (unless they are suitable for playing direct, in which case I retract that statement). I've been looking for a cab sim to plug amp-like pedals into but it's hard to find decent videos of many of them. It seems that most of the channels I trust to demonstrate products with a high level of consistency (so you get a good impression of what the product is actually like) don't cover that kind of product very much. The one that has me most interested is the Logidy EPSI, but it's pretty expensive.
I was wondering if you uys have heard before about Slick Guitars? Most of the people I've seen talking about them say retty good stuff about them being a cheap instrument but for me and everyone in Europe It's quite expensive to get one with all the shipping and stuff so: could you make a review on those? Probably not, but had to ask, I love your review videos and I've been watching them since 2013 or so. Cheers and Love!
Hi friends, I went to the Tone City website and they show are mini pedals. Are the two stage ones like on this video only available through Andertons? By the way, so glad the British are our brothers even if you don't know anything about good food. ;-)
if you live In the US go to riffcityguitars.com, they have them and it's free 2 day shipping, if you want the model b by any chance I'll sell you mine, let me know and I'll put it on eBay so you can buy it
Does the King of Blues have the internal switches? I want a pedal with a clean boost, but not the model M. So can you clean up one engine of this one like the King of Tone does? Somebody please answer.
Craig Flowers I don’t think it does, but I’m not sure. You could of course just turn the gain down/off on one of the engines. Or if you’re looking for a cleaner sound, maybe a model V
I have a cheap solid state marshall amp. Would something like the King of Blues be a good way to salvage some tone, or is it a futile attempt at polishing a turd? Unfortunately I simply can't afford a valve amp right now.
Doesn't hurt to try. As long as you can get a decent clean tone out of the amp, you should be able to do some damage with a couple good pedals. Tubes and valves are helpful, but they don't immediately solve everything like the guitar community would have you believe.
Oh gawd I need to have that Model M in my life. Also loved that Model V. They all sounded pretty great actually, that Model S was probably my least favorite though. :)
Hi All - apologies that many of you will have watched this before - its a re-upload because the audio wasn't right on the 1st one. +CaptAnderton Ah, alright.
+CaptAnderton Fair enough - I thought something sounded a little off with the first upload. Gonna watch this again to see if I like the pedals even more!
+CaptAnderton That explains it. Just re-watched and the pedals sound MUCH better now. They sound fantastic.
+CaptAnderton And I was so confused that I thought time travel was actually a real thing and it had happened to me without me noticing :D.
+CaptAnderton watched it anyway. 8-)
Can i just say thanks for using an amp we all know, and guitars we are all familiar with....
It makes a BIG difference.
Love the a/b/y pedal idea also.. Progress.
That Capt. Lee solo at the end there on the Les Paul was glorious.
Ok. I am a bit late to the Tone City game here, but I just got a Model B. I have to say this: it’s like plugging into a boogie. It makes my tiny practice amp sound like a wall of either Rectifiers or Mark-series. These things are incredible.
You two have such a fun job! Always look like you're enjoying yourselves
You should do a blindfold challenge, tone city pedals vs the amps they're based on.
I bought a Model V off the back of this. Couldn't be happier with it. I've been very pampered on my introduction to cheap pedals!!
Everybody keeps talking about this guy Drew Bypass! I always wonder where this dude is from!
Frank Meffert tone city actually. Coincidence? I think not!!
Derp.
Best reviews. Love ALL the videos. You two work SO WELL together.
I love using pedals on fender amps and vox amps they are my fav amps and people wouldnt think rock or anything more of a blues sound but they sound great with overdrive pedals just amazing classic rock bluesy thick tones my fav

How about a, best pedals to make your shaffordable solid state amp sound better, episode.
How about not spending a billion pounds on make a crap amp sound good, and buy a good amp. just my opinion
+Duke Ukulele An £80 pedal isn't a billion pounds. Buying a valve amp is. That's the point.
Dear lord I need that. Been stuck with a Solid State Marshall CFX for years
Audio sounds great. First time in the new space. Lovin it
bought the model m, sounds amazing!
Just got my Model M here in U.S. from Andertons. Wow! Great/quick service. Can't wait to try it out tonight.
These pedals sound awesome man!! The voxy one with the les paul sounded massive!! But loved the S model too!!

+ACDC1998Zippo That sounds like a winner--an SG Jr with a humbucker.
what is a sg model?
+tiemen bosma
It is actually the most popular gibson guitar. young eric clapton, tony iommi, and of course angus young are users of the Sg.
here check them out: www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Standard.aspx
SG THE MOST POPULAR GIBSON? UHH NO! THE LES PAUL IS NOT ONLY THE MOST POPULAR GIBSON BUT MOST POPULAR GUITAR OF ALL TIME
+Matt Bailey I highly doubt that the les Paul is more popular than the strat
I think you guys were right on with the pedal models. My favorite are the Boogie one and the SLO one. It's amazing how they are really modeled on the real amps since the Vintage Boogie needed some bass rolled off (like my MK V) and the SLO needed some less mids (like the real amp)
Ordered my model M today from Anderton's website. Cannot wait for it to arrive!!
Any good?
Model V and King of Blues for me. Love that Vox tone with the Les Paul
A playthrough of your own pedalboards would be nice to see :)
Just ordered the model M with you this evening Lee. It will be winging its way to Ireland. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
Hi Rob, thanks for another vid!
I got the Model V about 2 months ago, and love it. It sounds amazing. I also got the Tape Machine about a month ago, and love that too. I'm waiting for the Angel wing Chorus to arrive. The folks at Tone City know what they are doing.
That model m is the first pedal I've ever heeded and thought "damn I really want to buy this"

Where do I submit the jingles for Andertons? I could really use the 50p!
WOW Amazing pedals !!! Thanks guys
Anyway some of the pedals are simply awesome (in the first video too )!
"It's Rob Chapman
And the Captain
Here, at Andertoooons"
WHERE'S MY 50p?!
8:10 If the Captain would bluff in a poker game, this would be his movement :D
The Captain at 16 mins 17 seconds... very cool!
That Model M is absolutely unreal, does it sound just as good in person? Im 100% getting one of these next month!
So much better guys, it sounded ten times better now!
I really liked the sound the "wrong" one had! I think the camera mic brought something to the sound. Sound of the room, perhaps?
Plain and simply just amazing pedals
GREAT sounding pedals!!!!!!!
The Model E is wicked!
never head of these pedals, but dang dudes they are killer pedals, outstanding!
I'll maybe get the Model M, the Angel Wing and the reverb one. Good buying idea???
Reading my mind!!!
the angel wing is regarded as just superb for its money im ordering one shortly
These pedals kind of amount to a more analog approach to amp modelling. You can buy an amp modeler, or you can buy a basic clean amp and just plug these in as modelers. I actually like this approach. These are cool.
nut bush tone city limits........LOVE IT!!!!!!

LOL. Lee's metal face at 21:32
The E pedal font looks similar to the font on the Dual Rectifier, so I'm guessing maybe the long lost Rev E Dual rec, but there's already a boogie pedal.
Great RUSH reference Rob lol
Chapmeme winner?
model e? perhaps electric aka green which would explain the color of the ink on that pedal
+grp superstar i would say its engl
Model M boost light not working unless the start button pushed... it's a true bypass so to me it makes sense that the light won't activate if the drive isn't activated.
Frank Pratte exactly.....kinda shocked they jumped to the "its wrong" conclusion....works exactly correct based on how the pedal works

Nice Joe Walsh reference at 26:00 Rob, by the way... ;-)
i really liked the "Model M" and "Model V" the best... they sounded full and smooth... the more high gain models sounded a bit thin to me.
I agree. I also liked the King of Blues.
How does the Tone City Model M compare to the Joyo ( Harley Benton) British tone pedal?
Just a shot in the dark but could the Model S stand for Satriani?
King of DA BUES was......DA PEDAL fa ME......LOVED IT!
That reddy-orange thing isn't a Satch? Got the horrible reddy-orange Ibanez thing going on but sounds goood...
it's modeled after Super Signo Drive pedal by CMAT mods pedal company, compare them

... and how to the Tone City Golden Plexi pedal?
28:27 is what Rob thinks about the Capt's playing...

Model m ordered pre ordered, love that tone
for a more 90's/oasis/british sound, do you recomande the model M or the V ???
Is it just me, or does the boost brighten the sound as well?
Hi friends,
I went to the Tone City website and they show are mini pedals. Are the two stage ones like on this video only available through Andertons?
By the way, so glad the British are our brothers even if you don't know anything about good food. ;-)

Could Model S be Sunn amps?
Is the boost function designed to be a gain boost or a lead boost?
That riff around the 12 minute mark is that just random jamming or what?
E --- perhaps Engl? Great video. Looked like lots of fun.
23:50 what song is that from ?
the boost being dependent one the od kills this for me
Model b modern sound is amazing ! What pedal could get me that sound without an extra boost button ?
For that price the extra button its not a problen its a plus
Does the King of Blues have the internal switches? I want a pedal with a clean boost, but not the model M. So can you clean up one engine of this one like the King of Tone does? Somebody please answer.

thx
Off topic: will there be a full demo/review of the ML-7 models?
Hiya. Any chances of having mad professor amps and pedals for review?
you guys don't have a video for the model E pedal
Hey Rob, is that the Paul that you bought a while back? It's pretty tasty either way. Great sounding pedals!
I couldn't find tone tack on the Andertons site. Please help? ;)
they are on sale right now! 50 pounds lol
Is the two tone city pedal plus free power supply deal still active?
Hi guys, I'm thinking of the Model M or the Golden Plexi. Can the Model M get the same tones as the Golden Plexi?
My dream setup is a LP and a Marshall tube amp, or maybe just use that Model M pedal
Well an LP and a jtm45 would be the classic setup. Could get a dsl for quite cheap. Check out a peavey Windsor. You might be pleasantly surprised
in the usa they go for 50.00 which still isnt bad time to get to work so can get great pedals to add to my sound once im a more developed player
Could the red one be Splawn?
Oh gawd I need to have that Model M in my life. Also loved that Model V. They all sounded pretty great actually, that Model S was probably my least favorite though. :)
Can someone tell me the name of the song rob plays at around 11:55
+Evan Raby Catalyst by his band Dorje.
Bro, the red one seems to be vox satchurator
Where did Lee learn to play such awesome blues? :D
You guys do the BEST reviews. Thanks much! BTW, do you have any idea why I never seem to be able to bring up the Tone City website?
Can you guys review the new KHDK Ghoul Screamer pedal?
how about supersonic fender? For model S
Looking at the font I wonder if E is Trace Elliot.
the boost was a lot more evident in this version
+Jamie MacMillan Yeah man, last time I couldn't tell a difference..
