I did a paper on Heaven's Gate for my final assignment in Religion 101 last semester. I found it morbidly ironic that the Hale-Bopp comet they were focused on left Earth's orbit, never to be seen again, in the same year of the mass suicide. Guess their spaceship _did_ come for them after all.
I’m hoping this is sarcasm. Just in case, and for the dummies that read your comment and decide to join Heavens Gate, It wasn’t in earth orbit. It is in a very long period eccentric orbit of the sun and will return in the year 4385.

He had also worked with Mack on a number of projects but it was before she joined and so it was a complete shock to see how far she had fallen when this all came to light. r
NXIVM isn’t that interesting, I only say that because it boils down to a narcissist who wants to get attention from women.. the guy was too nerdy to attract women on his own, so he got another lady to help him find attractive women, lol.. it’s pretty pathetic on every angle.
I live in Switzerland and these mass "suicides" in these houses are still burned into the memories of the people that were around at that time. It was a huge thing.
Smartest guy involved with the Heaven's Gate was the guy that bought the property, after team nike left the building. He demolished the home, subdivided the lot, built four homes and made a bundle. It is a very wealthy area.
Once, after a day at Blacks Beach I got swept up in a traffic jam full of emergency vehicles, sudden chaos, I checked the radio and heard a cult had commited mass suicide, I looked right off the 5 and there was the house pictured in your report!
@@yungjunkie666 That's a fedora take. Especially to Catholics and Orthodox who would find these guys so heretical they wouldn't even consider them Christian. I highly doubt the Unification Church accepts a literal interpretation of the eucharist, accepts deuterocanon, prays to Mary and saints, among other numerous theological issues.
When my mind wanders to the subject of cults and people who are members of cults,I always catch myself thinking things like,"What kind of sheep-brained automoton would ever allow themselves to be taken in by something that's so obviously ridiculous to me!?" And when a "knee-jerk reaction" type thought like that pops into my head, its immediately followed by a little pang of guilt. Because that's not fair. I'm sure it's just like getting robbed or being on the frontlines of a battlefield or something like that. Inasmuch as you may like to think you'd behave a certain way,but until you find yourself in a situation like that you have absolutely no idea what you would actually do.
These cults typically prey on people that are vulnerable, whether emotionally (lonely, traumatized, hopeless etc) or financially(prey on poor people) or socially influenced through certain industries and communities (the more people around you are involved, the more you might be drawn to it). I think a lot of MLMs get their whole shtick going in very similar ways, selling the idea to get rich. It’s quite sad to think about
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video, and for mentioning Xenos/Dwell. I am a former member. The testimony you quoted is exactly what ended up happening to me and I saw it happen to others.

Many experts on cult activity have talked about therapists as the new cult leaders. Most people are too educated to fall for the same things these people used to use to suck people in, but we are taught to trust public speakers and therapists. It's pretty horrible.
What disturbed me the most was the part that covered rent being so unaffordable and dysfunctional nowadays.. How can our country keep functioning like this? If I was in Dwell and I found out that my phone or any of my electronics were bugged, it would instantly be destroyed or just downright wiped and then destroyed bc no one has the right to listen in on my conversations with my family. Those are private and confidential. Thank God I am a Christian and I know how to tell cult recruiters to leave me alone, just pull my bible from my shelf and preach to them.
I know several people who were in Xenos, and I myself attended many of their events. They are fairly normal to outsiders, but the cult alarms start going off loudly when they force members to become reliant on them for everything and then force members to abandon their outside friends and families who weren't a 'good influence' on them - which means basically anyone who has or has had premarital relations or other various 'impure things', or people who just don't like Xenos. Luckily all of the friends I knew in the cult left it shortly after college, but some of them were REALLY into it until it started negatively impacting them personally.
This video was great. Dude, you must live around here. It’s actually comforting to hear someone speak - a lesson I will apply in the future to other channels: let the artist speak. Thanks.
The bible does talk about pedophilia actually. It outright states pedophilia is a sin but certain translations and pastors distorted the line so they could excuse child diddling and claim being gay is a sin instead.
Stop with the revisionist history. The Bible is pretty Anti-Gay and this recent claim by some that this whole time the Bible was cool with gays is bull.
So, when I went through a crisis of faith aged 11, a teacher took pity on me and tried to find me a new religion to follow. (Disclaimer: I believe he was an Anglican or something similar). As I was alienating from Christianity, that was out. Knowing I was a sci-fi fan, he read a short blurb on Raelism and recommended it to me. It was clear that he didn't do any further research on it as I finally looked into it while remembering this time while at Uni. Trust me, if you knew him, there's no way he'd seriously suggest it had he read more into it. He'd be mortified if I ever told him what he'd recommended 🤣
I am fascinated with cults and sects, from a psychological sense. They say cult + time = religion, so I always thought- how would those groups look if they grew and gained acceptance from the society?
I really dislike the view of religion being cults. It's such an abrahamic religions perspective. Most eastern religions are so chill when it comes to practising it. There is no "if you don't believe in me you'll go to hell" , "I am the only correct one so believe in me" ideology or "you have to spread the word of me and shove it down everyone's throat" . Most eastern religions are super chill with even you not believing and worshipping the god/god's. If you are a good person and do good for others you'll attain "heaven".
Eh cults are very intolerant of secondary opinions. At least within lets say Christianity, there is a spectrum of acceptable opinions same with Islam and Judaism
@@lukashradecky5492 There's so many "acceptable options" BECAUSE they're intolerant of secondary opinions. If they were tolerant of secondary opinions, noone would have to split off and create different sects of Christianity. Mainstream (Abrahamic) religions all carry the earmarks of cults. Dantavius doesn't mention the Quiverfull group here, but they're a VERY cultlike sect of Christianity. Also, you have groups like Hamas, who are very cult-like Muslims.
Don’t think it’s as simple as cult plus time = religion. There were historically tons of snake or nature cults, and almost none now, and 99% of cults die out shortly after the cult leader does. So the huge majority of the time, cult plus time = forgotten. But agree that society could look very different based on which small religions got a foothold, and which didn’t.

I love videos about cults so I'd definitely watch you getting deeper into any of these
I know several people who were in Xenos, and I myself attended many of their events.
