about Ceaucescu... when he was on a visit to Iran, he wasn't kissing up to the Shah, because it's an entire decade after the Iranian "revolution". he was kissing up to the Ayatulla's ergime. and also, the trial was not held in a courthouse, but in Ceacescu's villa (one of many..) in the historic town of Targoviste. the actual execution was held in the back yard of this villa, to which he and his wife elena escaped and were captured after 2 days on the run. fun fact: the soldiers made sure to mention afterwards that the dictator's wife smelled like " a woman who doesn't take care of herself" (after days on the run).

Romania and Romanians are awesome, though I hear its not as bad as it was, I am glad my brother from another mother left Romania, with out the problems I wouldn't have gotten a brother or life long friend
This needs a part 2 as there's some proper bastards that you've left out. Park Chung Hee - People kept thinking that North Korea is a dystopian, fully dictatorship state but what people didn't realize that the south which the US has built were also at one point ran by dictators. After Syngman Rhee's assassination, Park Chung Hee became the most powerful military leader in South Korea thus 2 years later, he kicked his regime off with a coup and became the President of the newly-formed Third Republic and later on the Fourth Republic. He would make radical reforms when it comes to economy which indeed turned a backwater South Korea into one of the leading economic powerhouse of Asia behind Japan and not only that, would pander to severe American support by sending troops to Vietnam to assist the US in the war at the cost of severe human rights in the country itself. Not only that, he was very oppressive to his own people and would enforce strict censorship on them and would eventually put a permanent martial law across the whole nation. Because of his constant oppression, people got real fed-up after his decade reign and his was assassinated by his best friend and aide who was also the then-director of the KCIA (Korean CIA basically). His daughter, Park Geun-hye would also later become president of South Korea during its very democratic times but would be impeached and imprisoned in 2017 for corruption charges. Chun Doo-hwan - Surprise surprise.. Another South Korean dictator but he wasn't as bad as Park but.. Close enough. Chun, like Park, was the highest ranking military leader of its time and again, after Park was assassinated, Chun took power thru a coup like Park and established the Fifth Republic. He did not rule like a full authoritarian but was still extremely volatile and oppressive. He kept most of the policies that Park had set prior but this time, he went even harder with political dissidents as he had his own secret police, the Hanahoe. His most notable piece of work would definitely be the Gwangju Massacre. His regime was already rocky despite the huge economic growth as political strife and human rights was practically brutally suppressed and worse still, on top of the martial law, Chun had also started to defund the educational constituents which caused students to be unhappy. Protests started to appear in Gwangju but to combat it, Chun sent in the brutal Hanahoe who started to beat, rape, kill students and even plunder shops who was sympathetic to the student's cause and soon, full fledged riots broke out which turned into a massive uprising. Students started to fight the Hanahoe and the Paratrooper brigades sent there with fists and whatever tools they can find and many would eventually even raid the police stations across Gwangju for weaponry to go against the Hanahoe and the military sent to take back Gwangju. The whole event lasted 9 days of fighting before the military fully took back the city but the damage was done as it's estimated that 600-2000 people had died in the uprising and not only that, it catastrophically broke down the regime of Chun who realized that his ways of brutal control isn't working and switched to a more democratic way of governance which, surprise surprise, saw him being voted out but he got to live his days till into his 90th birthday in 2021. Pol Pot - Now this piece of shit needs to be added also. After gaining the entirety of Cambodia thru a brutal civil war which saw his communist group winning, he started to be a true bastard. He executed every people of intellect, burning books, hardline indoctrinating people into his personal cult of personality and forced everyone to work in the fields and whoever disagrees or underperforms would be shot dead straight up. With zero education, rural lifestyle and total brutality for the general population, only the Khmer Rogues have the top treatment and immunity to do whatever they wanted to the citizens. It was said that due to Pol Pot, his regime singlehandedly wiped out 2-6 million people during his reign alone.
Actually Francois Duvalier got his nickname Papa Doc from his youthful days back when he was just a struggling battle rapper representing a small band of guerilla fighters known as the Free World. He took on this moniker to avoid the embarrassment of his true name actually being Clarence. Its okay Dantavius we cant be right ALL the time.
Hearing all these stories of the brutality of men throughout history. Men who were supposed to lead their people to better lives, but only ended up abusing their power in the most cruel and sadistic ways with incredible amounts of bloodshed and terror. It makes me feel pretty fortunate to have been born where and when I was. I really could not have asked for a better life growing up, and I wish everyone could experience the same type of love, freedom, and peace that we did in our lives. It's no wonder how there are so many people filled with hate and great need for revenge and retaliation when all they've known is unwarranted terror and savagery and losing their entire families, villages and races.

It was actually super cool to see Ceausescu here. You covered his reign pretty well on a surface level. However, there are a couple things I'd like to add as I have a bunch of relatives in Romania who lived through his reign. During the 80s, food in general was a lot scarcer and most people would have to stand in line starting at the crack of dawn just for extremely little bread, eggs, meat, all that. And not only food was scarce, but also pretty much everything. Heating, light, all to save money so he can build his mega-palace.

During the reign of “genius of carpathians”. They would regularly round up women of childbearing age in groups and would force them to undergo invasive exams to make sure they weren’t using any birth control. Every woman was supposed to have 5 children at least.
I figured out the confusion! If you had 5 children or were age 45 or above you were granted permission to use contraception or have an abortion. Prior to that it was illegal. So they really were indirectly forcing women to have 5 kids. Reading through that Wikipedia article was pretty scary considering Republicans want to ban both abortion and contraception outright. They want women to stay celibate or pump out kids their entire life. Heritage Foundation based a lot of Project 2025 off of modern day Hungary. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out Ceausescu's Romania was inspiration as well. When you read through it it's clear they were cherry picking from all their favorite authoritarian dictatorships throughout history. Wikipedia: "In October 1966, Decree 770 was personally sanctioned by Ceaușescu. Abortion and contraception were declared illegal, except for: women over 45 (later lowered to 40, then raised again to 45). women who had already borne four children (later raised to five)."

Fun fact: Hong Xiuquan with his rebellion are actually mentioned in the Vietnam History book for 11th grade. The writer do list the land ownership and the gender equality part, but left out all of his other crimes. The rebellion is only mentioned because of how big it was. He is named on page 14 of the 11th grade history school book at the start of the page.
While that's fascinating no one is gonna be able to find it because your 11th grade history book is vastly different to the next state over, or even 10 years ago or into the future. We all genuinely get the same curriculum but the source of the literature is gonna vary because I assure you this was not taught to me. I don't even believe Vietnam just uses the same history book in every single school. They're gonna vary. Some schools are in the damn stone age. Most curriculums are severely outdated and differ greatly between countries/states/cities/etc etc.
You forgot about the story where the Equatorial Guinean dictator Francisco Macías Nguema filled up a bunch of assassins dressed up as Santa in a soccer stadium and killed a bunch of civilians on Christmas Day while playing the Mary Hopkins' hit 1968 song “Those Were the Days" for some crazy reason.

dominican here, let me telll you about trujillo. Sure he was backed by the americans but that wasn't why he rule for 30 years. Trujillo has to this day a cult of personality akin to that of escobar on the far-right wing of our politics, the man had that rizz and charm that most people eat it up here. It also helps, that he actually fixed a lot of issue the country had such as the country's external debt, infrastructure, schooling and some other things i can't recall right away, he was a murderer bar few and killed for little to no provocation yes but contrary to most dictators, he did not let the country fall to absolute ruin and just bailed when shit got tough. I am personally friends with the descendants of the De La Maza family, who orchestrated the shooting and even them (who hate the man for killing most of their family) will tell you that the reason they killed him was not JUST because he was a poor leader or a tyrant but mainly because he was a murderous, petty asshole who killed people for anything and everything, if you slighted him even in the dumbest of ways, he killed you and it was impossible to know just what would trigger him. If he curved that, pretty sure they would not have shot him as much as they did. Trujillo did not die well....
That quote is meant to apply to your average man. When the men of a nation are tough, honorable and brave, good things happen. When they are weak, spineless and follow orders unquestioningly, dictatorships happen. It’s not hard to grasp.

Wish you would have talked about Ceausescu's family politics. He wanted to basically double Romanias population in less than 40 years and banned contraception and sex ed. He also put women who had an abortion in prison for 25 years. Women also had to go the gynecologist every month (!) to check for pregnancies. Long story short, the birth rate increased but orphanages were completely overpopulated and the number of children living on the streets skyrocketed. Families were not able to feed their 5+ kids and thus abandoned them. Also more than 10.000 women died due to this psychoctic shit. I think this is really food for thought for today's politics.
Forest Whitaker played Idi Amin so damn good in Last King of Scotland. Side note, Trujillo executed my great grandfather for writing against the government.

I don’t think “strong men” refers to their military or political power, but to the mental and physical fortitude of the strong men, aka soldiers, that died in wars to protect the future generations. about Ceaucescu... when he was on a visit to Iran, he wasn't kissing up to the Shah, because it's an entire decade after the Iranian "revolution". he was kissing up to the Ayatulla's ergime. and also, the trial was not held in a courthouse, but in Ceacescu's villa (one of many..) in the historic town of Targoviste. the actual execution was held in the back yard of this villa, to which he and his wife elena escaped and were captured after 2 days on the run. fun fact: the soldiers made sure to mention afterwards that the dictator's wife smelled like " a woman who doesn't take care of herself" (after days on the run).

8 mile reference? Lol
He was defeated by a yakubian devil named B Rabbit

Every woman was supposed to have 5 children at least.
there was no rule about 5 kids. he did ban abortion which led to a huge amount of orphans
Don't give JD any more ideas...
Wikipedia:
"In October 1966, Decree 770 was personally sanctioned by Ceaușescu.
