Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old at the time of this performance. This is HER ARRANGEMENT of the 1956 original by Screaming Jay Hawkins whose face was on the candle at the beginning of the video. The notes that you saw the music director looking at were Angelina's notes on how she wanted the band to play Her Arrangement. The band affectionately nicknamed her " The Boss". This young lady ( she just turned 16 on Jan. 10th ) is a true musical prodigy . She is Norwegian and English is her third language ( she speaks Norwegian , Swedish , English , Japanese and Farsi ). She plays Guitar , Piano , Flute and Violin. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old. She started singing at the age of 1 1/2 and got introduced to Jazz at age 3 by her her grandmother Mery. She is the youngest ever published author in Norway at the age of 9. The book she wrote about an experience in the Mideast While traveling with her family explains why she always performs barefoot. Her fans (called Angels ) have many names for her - The Barefoot Princess , The Queen of Jazz and The Angel with 1,000 voices. Love your reactions. I haven't read all of the comments, but I didn't see any one tell you that Screaming Jay Hawkins is the original artist and she is paying homage to him. He is the character on the mug at the beginning of the video. He is the originator of "SHOCK ROCK." He acted like a weird voodoo cannibal character in his original videos of the song. Angelina will probably be bigger than all other current female singers put together. Please react to as much of her material as you can and point folks to her channels to play them so she can rack up the views. I suspect, perhaps others here know, she may be donating it to the charities she supports. Smart that she is taking the long road, finishing her education and taking the time to grow up more. She has always appeared to me to be shy and introspective, except behind a mic that is. I think she really listens deeply… that and her fantastic, chameleon-like voice is why she can reproduce the style and sound of these great artists…she really pays attention to nuance and detail. If I were Adele I would start writing for and with Angelina! Think about how famous a song would become if Angelina brought it to the world first with her golden tone. I honestly think this performance is one of the best if not the best of all time!! The band, the black and white, the sound quality, EVERYTHING is perfection!! She is an old soul and just incredible and has been from a very early age and keeps getting even better! She makes every song she does HER song. Love that first dumbfounded look and blank stare of incredulity at 2:03 It was my look as well as many others. She is a musical genius in a child's body. She wrote the entire arrangement of this cover version, from the individual instruments, which instruments, as well as how to strip down the original lyrics and interpret them as no one else has. She plays several instruments and was reading music at the age of 5, I believe. Her grandmother was a renowned singer and musician who focused on American jazz and blues music, which is what she grew up with from the cradle to age 7 or so. I think her brain learned musical notes before it learned Norwegian. Her talent (and voice) has only grown with her. There are some really excellent biographies of Angelina, it would be well worth your time to read them and learn a little about her. She is pure Jazz..... If you would like to be further blown away listen to Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT at the age of 13. Her most recent is A true Jazz song and the hardest one to sing (Take it from one who has tried) My Funny Valentine...............Also so many different styles and even her own songs such as 7th Heaven, Million Miles. And as always for anyone new to Angelina, here is a little bio so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. Great reaction! I had to laugh when you said she was “just chillin’” along with the music. If you want to see more of that, you ought to see her first audition at Norway’s got talent. She sings her song, the audience goes wild, and she’s just standing there, age 7 mind you, and the first judge says, “Angelina?” And she answers, “Yeah…” as if nothing happened! Her poise is amazing!
I never get tired of watching people getting their minds blown by this performance by Angelina. She doesn't follow the cues, she gives them. Musicians affectionately refer to her as "The Boss". She is also known as the girl with a thousand voices. Every times you watch her you will be amazed again at her command of the stage and of the music she interprets. No exaggeration, she is already one of the greatest female jazz singers ever.

I've always believed her "calmness" comes from Angelina knowing this is her passion and purpose in life. She says she never gets nervous. This child has performed for President Obama, Queens & Kings, at the Nobel Peace presentations, etc. She was invited to sign Quincy Jones' Fly Me to the Moon arrangement, by Quincy himself, for his 85th birthday at London's O2 stadium. She has 2 billion views on Facebook and a billion more on TH-cam. and she is the 'kid' no one has heard of, yet. Interesting that you say that about Angelina's calmness. Another young amazing singer, though of very different genre, Amira Willighagen, also exudes the same calmness and confidence in her performances and since her first televised performance at age 9, when she won Holland's Got Talent in 2013 singing Nessun Dorma, has also always said that she never gets nervous performing. Some innately and exceptionally talented singers seem to possess this calmness and confidence..

Where does Angelina's deep voice come from? How does she do some of the amazing things we hear from her voice? Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6’ give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman. (1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published. (2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics. (3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used. It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius.

I fell into the Angelina rabbit hole about two years and now she is my all time favorite musical artist. Angelina is true prodigy who creates her own arrangements, seemingly from birth. Angelina is a natural jazz singer but can sing anything exceptionally well. IMO the best singer storyteller of my 63 years. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on TH-cam recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 7, Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on TH-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her unique arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated. Angelina prior to turning 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on TH-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. In August 2020, her manager and uncle Michael Astar announced Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. This is HER ARRANGEMENT of the 1956 original by Screaming Jay Hawkins whose face was on the candle at the beginning of the video. The notes that you saw the music director looking at were Angelina's notes on how she wanted the band to play Her Arrangement. The band affectionately nicknamed her " The Boss". This young lady ( she just turned 16 on Jan. 10th ) is a true musical prodigy . She is Norwegian and English is her third language ( she speaks Norwegian , Swedish , English , Japanese and Farsi ). She plays Guitar , Piano , Flute and Violin. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old. She started singing at the age of 1 1/2 and got introduced to Jazz at age 3 by her her grandmother Mery. She is the youngest ever published author in Norway at the age of 9. The book she wrote about an experience in the Mideast While traveling with her family explains why she always performs barefoot. Her fans (called Angels ) have many names for her - The Barefoot Princess , The Queen of Jazz and The Angel with 1,000 voices. Love that first dumbfounded look and blank stare of incredulity at 2:03 It was my look as well as many others. She is a musical genius in a child's body. She wrote the entire arrangement of this cover version, from the individual instruments, which instruments, as well as how to strip down the original lyrics and interpret them as no one else has. She plays several instruments and was reading music at the age of 5, I believe. Her grandmother was a renowned singer and musician who focused on American jazz and blues music, which is what she grew up with from the cradle to age 7 or so. I think her brain learned musical notes before it learned Norwegian. Her talent (and voice) has only grown with her. Check out some of her latest performances on her Tik-Tok channel @angelinajordana My only hope is that as she matures, she stays interested in her music and the purity of it's roots with her grandmother, and doesn't succumb to the pressures of the music industry / social media know-it-alls and become something . . . different altogether. 1. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent.
2. Now, in this year of 2022 she stands at 6 foot tall and still in her mid teens. She still performs publically barefoot.
3. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to.

The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 75 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and "7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
- Updates: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist".
On Nov 6 2020 she released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"!

PS: It was Screamin' Jay Hawkins (the picture on the candle at the beginning) who first wrote and recorded the song in 1956. Angelina, basically, heard the song, said "hold my beer", wrote the arrangement of the song for her voice (the paper she hands the band leader), controls the band with her gestures (the band called her "the boss"), was barefoot throughout (there's a great story behind that), and even finishes acapella!!

Nobody can scream better than little girls, but only Angelina screams on key. Some 200 singers have covered this Screamin' Jay Hawkins song, many of them very well. I used to think that the covers by Nina Simone and CCR were the only ones worth listening to. Then Angelina came along and blew them all out of the water. Great reaction! I had to laugh when you said she was “just chillin’” along with the music. If you want to see more of that, you ought to see her first audition at Norway’s got talent. She sings her song, the audience goes wild, and she’s just standing there, age 7 mind you, and the first judge says, “Angelina?” And she answers, “Yeah…” as if nothing happened! Her poise is amazing!

I never get tired of watching people getting their minds blown by this performance by Angelina. She doesn't follow the cues, she gives them. Musicians affectionately refer to her as "The Boss". She is also known as the girl with a thousand voices. Every times you watch her you will be amazed again at her command of the stage and of the music she interprets. No exaggeration, she is already one of the greatest female jazz singers ever.

I've always believed her "calmness" comes from Angelina knowing this is her passion and purpose in life. She says she never gets nervous. This child has performed for President Obama, Queens & Kings, at the Nobel Peace presentations, etc. She was invited to sign Quincy Jones' Fly Me to the Moon arrangement, by Quincy himself, for his 85th birthday at London's O2 stadium. She has 2 billion views on Facebook and a billion more on TH-cam. and she is the 'kid' no one has heard of, yet. She told the world on national television that she will be a superstar and share her music with the world. She doesn't have time to be nervous, it's just what she was born to do. Interesting that you say that about Angelina's calmness. Another young amazing singer, though of very different genre, Amira Willighagen, also exudes the same calmness and confidence in her performances and since her first televised performance at age 9, when she won Holland's Got Talent in 2013 singing Nessun Dorma, has also always said that she never gets nervous performing. Some innately and exceptionally talented singers seem to possess this calmness and confidence..

Where does Angelina's deep voice come from? How does she do some of the amazing things we hear from her voice? Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6’ give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman.
(1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published.
(2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics.
(3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used.
It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or B2).
(4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx.
(5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from.
(6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short.
(7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius.
She doesn't follow the cues, she gives them. Look at her writing the paper, it is her giving instructions to the band. The way she points in the air with the pen, she is in full control of the band. She is the boss. I've heard bands cry after performing with Angelina. Imagine being in such control at the age 9. Absolutely incredible....

Try "It's A Man's World" by James Brown. I fell into the Angelina rabbit hole about two years and now she is my all time favorite musical artist. Angelina is true prodigy who creates her own arrangements, seemingly from birth. Angelina is a natural jazz singer but can sing anything exceptionally well. IMO the best singer storyteller of my 63 years.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old.
Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on TH-cam recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.”
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on TH-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London.
Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her unique arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated.
Angelina prior to turning 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on TH-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. In August 2020, her manager and uncle Michael Astar announced Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her 2nd single, 7th Heaven is a jazzy, upbeat, inspirational song and was also written by Angelina. Angelina’s family requested Republic Records to allow her to have as normal a childhood as possible. This is why Republic Records has not promoted her first two singles.
Angelina Jordan is a humble, compassionate young lady of very few words when she is not singing. She is on videos saying she wants to sing for the entire world and also that she wants to improve the quality of life for all the children on Earth. She has helped to raise millions of dollars for children’s charities and environmental causes.
Musicians who have worked with her have been quoted saying Angelina is among the most talented musicians they have worked with and she is the boss in the room when rehearsing. Remarkable for a girl of few words when not singing. For Angelina, it is all about the music and not her.
