Tessie, during WW2 most families were low income and all had Victory Gardens. Instead of using their yards for bushes and flowers they plowed them up and planted crops. Things like sugar, flour, coffee, butter were rationed. Mothers mended the families clothes and they made do. Now while they may have been poor or low income by the worlds standards they had something money cannot buy. They had self respect and held their heads up high. Neighbors looked out for each other they all shared from their bounties, They were happy and content with what they had.
Christmas consisted of apples and oranges in their stocking and maybe one small toy for each child. People possessed a closeness we do not see today.
So... Ms. Tessie, you are bringing back the old ways. You hold your head up high. You are an incredible humble lady and have a tremendous amount of knowledge that no higher education can offer. We all look forward to visiting with you each evening. GOD bless you, Tessie. ~ Debbie

Debbie I love your words there! I too, agree with every word you stated above! So please Tessie, pretend I am also saying that to you! I love how simple and unchained to the world you are. It's the best way to be! God bless you and your families Debbie and Tessie.. Love from Australia🥰💞🙏✝
@@graycee8326 thank you for your very kind words. Above all I believe we want Tessie to first know how loved she is by her community of friends and sister and brothers in Christ. But I also want her to know that GOD has called her for " such as time as this." And that she is valued by Him and us. Her contribution to this world is just as important as the next persons. GOD has placed a call on everyone of His children's lives and Tessie is doing a fabulous job of fulfilling hers. Blessings to you from Texas! Much love in Christ. ~ Debbie 💗🌟
Oh how I wish you would put all your knowledge into a book. You are so smart and talented Tessie. Love and prayers to you
I wish she would write a cookbook, then a frugal book, then homesteading!
That would be great!! A great seller for sure!
That’s a great idea!!!
That would be amazing. I would especially enjoy a mixed book, with canning, herbal remedies from the garden, frugal tips, wisdom, and all kinds of goodies like that. I've seen a few come out with beautiful photographs but the content is lacking and they are really coffee table books, but I know Tessie's content would be real. I had the idea to write a book once but I got hung up on the editing, and how to format it to Amazon and all that. (I had it saved on a usb drive, and I'd printed it out just in case) just sat for quite a while. Then I found out my neighbor enjoyed editing, had experience, and would do it for a couple hundred bucks. Don't let something like this hold you back, just ask around.
@@tammys.1085 Good idea!
I think you always show dignity miss Tessie. Living low income is and should also show how smart you are 💝💝💝
Agreed :-)
Agreed!
I really think you should write a book Tessie. It would be a best seller and that income could make you comfortable in your old age❤️
Hi Tessie! I use an indoor clothes rack that I hang my clothes on during the winter to dry.
I remember being a kid and on Saturdays my mother always washed all of our clothes and hung them outside on the clothesline and we carried water from the spring up the hill so momma could wash those clothes.
I remember my grandmother’s lining all the grandchildren up and giving us a dose of castor oil and my other grandmother gave us black draught syrup, yuck… but we all where healthy as a horse my great grandfather would say.
Have a blessed night everyone!
Your videos are a valuable service, and FREE! Anyone who doesn't care for them can move on and let those who realize the value stay and learn. Saving money has always been a fun topic for me all of my life!
That was very interesting. We hung our clothes out year around. Moma had a clothes line in the kitchen for winter. When the clothes would freeze , we would rehang them on the kitchen and let them finish drying. They had to be taken down before Daddy got home for supper or he would throw a fit.
We also freeze dried our clothes and brought them in to finish off. Great memories ❤️
I like all your videos the cooking is good too, I like the gardening

I love long videos like this :)
Hi Kimi !!!
That’s what I’ve been doing for yrs trying not to buy many seeds if any . I’ve got tons of saved by me seeds . I love it . Great job tessie as always . GODBLESS sweetie
I super like the aprons you wear. I bought one to check them out and ended up getting another one! Pockets!!! I tried lemon verbena this year and like the flavor and scent a lot! My plantain oil is due to be done next week!
Tessie this video has so much good information that I had to rewatch several times so I did not miss anything. The plantain herb is new to me. I've only heard or seen the bananna looking plantain. I do like the sun oven and I'm sure it comes in handy for all types of baking. I still want to plant me some lemon verbena this coming year. The last few weeks I could have used one of the old strong mustard packs on my neck/shoulder and arm because I was at the breaking point with the pain ( and I think I really went crazy for a while from it😢) great video tonight but of course I've never seen a video you have made that i did not like either old or new😉 Thank you my sisterfriend 👍🤗💙🙏
pellis6928.....Have you tried rubbing castor oil on your painful areas or using a castor oil pack with heat? Lots of how-to videos showing you how. Castor oil helps my knees before bed! I even use Vicks Vapo Rub on my knees. You would be surprised the uses for Vicks! Check with your doctor if in doubt. God Bless!
aww my sweet sister I am praying for you and thank you for ALL THE KIND WORDS YOU ALWAYS GIVE ME !!!!!!!!!!
@@LLjean-qz7sb LLjean thank you for the tips. I had completely forgot about castor oil until Tessie talked about it on this video. I remember as a kid it was forced down my throat for some type of sickness... At least I think that was the name of the stuff they gave kids in the 60s and 70s but I will look for it and try it on my painful areas. I have used the Vicks on my feet to soften them but have not tried it for pain on my joints... But I will NOW and again Thank you💙🙏
I just want you and what makes you happy ❤ you do what you want!
P.s I remember taking frozen clothes off the line.and metal blinds that I got cut on however I loved the time with my mom
I have been going through all your play list ....7 yrs of it...I have been getting inspired more and more especially the older videos .
Good evening to you Tessie ❤😊

Hi Forever Lovely 😊
A sun oven is on my list! Oh how I would love one. They are so expensive. I have asked my kids to help me make a smaller fire pit so we can learn to cook outside! ❤❤

Thank you for Such Kind words, You are a beautiful person and your comment to me Blessed me so much!
What wild plants should we be gathering before they are gone from freezes? Like is it a good time to dig dandelion roots now? I'd love to know what you have at hand to combat flu and other winter illnesses. I have a hard time comprehending info from books. Thanks Tessie for sharing your home and efforts.❤️
Really all I do that is wild is plantian and raspberry leaves :)
beautiful video Tessie..love you!❤
Hey Tessie, My daughter ordered the book you recommended last video, delivered today but no book, lol. Just the envelope! My son in law already got a refund and she is sending me another one. Wish me luck. (Possum Living).
oh no !!! that is crazy !! glad you are getting another copy !!!
@@HomesteadTessie me too !
It's good Tessie that maybe you don't know about the current trends or the different things like that. I don't know about them either to be honest with you. I don't watch news or anything like that I leave that to my husband I suffer with anxiety so it would really make my anxiety worse to watch news on a regular basis. But if there's anything that I need to know he tells me. But the knowledge that you have is really useful helpful and very practical. And that's why we love you.❤
Hi Tessie
Hi Marybeth 🙂
Happy Tuesday To You
Hello Andrea and happy Halloween@@pr9764
Hi Tessie! Thanks for all your videos. Here in Alabama, we are supposed to have three nights of below freezing weather so we had to rush out and harvest our greens in the garden. We had lots of Kale, Mustard Greens, and Pok Choi. I got three bushels, so I am canning like crazy. It is 2:00am and the canner is still going. They go bad so quick that I have to keep going. That is frugal because I already have the jars. I always learn so much from you Tessie. You are a blessing! B
Just remind people it's not liquid mustard you use on a sandwich, it's powdered mustard and it can burn sensitive skin like children. I use it with another dry clean cloth touching the skin with the prepared mustard Politis Between the two cloths. Check it Frequently for any reddening of the skin.
Who Loves Tessie time :-)

Hi tessy ❤❤ I really enjoy your you tubes as I am low income
The economy is not good even tonight we have hardly anyone out for Halloween lots of ppl didn't even decorate this year. I asked one of our neighbors what he thought of it. He said so many ppl are just broke this year. Christmas will be worse.
Its better to be tight with your money and live below your means that way you can at least put money away for emergencies.
My mom used the mustard plaster for my daddy. She rarely had to use it for us kids. Though I do recall a few times having that smelly warm mustard plaster on. 😆
I enjoy your videos! Doesn’t matter to me if it is old ways. I do enjoy the old ways….. but I’m content with anything you put out, Tessie! Thanks for sharing with us. God bless you Tessie. ❤️🙏

Love the new view! It’s getting chilly at night now. Really having a lot of anxiety about heating bills. Any ideas for saving on that?
Insulation and better windows?
insulate everything !!!!!!!! even windows with clear plastic .close off some rooms .and dress in layers !
Interesting, I never heard of Plantain herb before.
Plantain look like bananas you cook them though. They are popular in South America Caribbean and Puerto Rico.
In this video we are referring to the herb plantain it is a healing herb that can be made into salves
Nice video, Tessie! May I ask about the flannel cloths you highlighted? Did you buy them or make them? I l’d love to have some of those. 🥰
they were bought :) amazon
I love my sun oven. So much better in the hot hot days of summer then heating up the house. You can do so much with it.
I'm interested in all your ideas. Thank you Tessie for another teaching video❤❤❤
The little seeds that plantain produce. You wait until they turn brown and they can be ground and made into flour. Have you done this Tessie?
yes it is amazing ,to add to breads :) Love you my sister !!
@@HomesteadTessieoh 😢 I love you Tessie
Hey Tessie!
You have such wonderful skills growing your herbs and gardens and canning your produce.
Have you thought about selling some of your canned foods?
We enjoy buying homemade jans, jellies, relish and pickles.
Unfortunately here in the state of Pennsylvania they have really strict laws on making food to sell it would cost me over $15,000 to redo my kitchen everything has to be up to their commercial code so it does not pay me to do that but I know some people do when they have newer houses
@@HomesteadTessie Too bad. That would make good use of your skills. Some people in NC rent space in a commercial cooking space to produce foods.
Why is using your solar dishwasher helping you save. You have water that is hot enough to clean properly. Yet you will your sun oven. I do not see the difference, making things harder does, not make sense to me. Thank you.
Solar dishwasher? I do have hot water now in my home that gets almost boiling hot so I don't need the dishwasher any more the sun oven was given to me as a gift seven years ago nothing is being made harder here it's just general life of everybody really
Hi everyone 🙂🍁
Hi Linda 😊
@@deborafranklin7469 good morning deborafranklin 🙂🍁
God has given you a gift for gardening and knowing your herbs and ways to do things. I have felt one of my gifts is cleaning. I have cleaned our home of course for years but I used to have my own cleaning business and I would clean for others. So I just feel it comes naturally to me as your gardening does for you. It is amazing how God uses his children to bring their individual gifts to the table. Thanks for sharing.
I love your mobile home and property and chickens, little building and garage. I would be very happy living like you, but I live in a subdivision I am 71 , but I am still happy . God is good.
Im curious. Do you live this way by choice, or could you get a job and have more money? Does your husband work?
It is by choice ,my husband is older than me, he is retired
@@HomesteadTessieI am so glad your hubby was able to retire. He has worked hard and long and thank goodness he can retire while he still has the heath to enjoy it!!
Tessie i love your content, ive been eatching your old videos x its helpful practical and an absolute joy to learn from you x
We grew produce this year and it was fantastic homegrowndinners. I've also made candles and soap and i don't feel poor...i feel blessed and content x i just need to master bread making!
A poem for you.."its not crude to share ways to find food..being shrewd, definitely, its you"..regards Karolyn Melbourne
I love the poems Karolyn !!
What I love is you just living you. Because as much as you are doing things, maybe the ways some people do it now, You also in your everyday life do things that you know from the past. I think we get blessed all the way around. Because that's the very means of who you are Past and current. You're wise soul. Full of wisdom money can't buy. I thank you. I get to call you my friend. Bless you bless you.
So what do you do in January and February about doing laundry? Do you go to your children's homes and do laundry or to a laundromat? It's kind of like you created different "rooms" around your yard with different purposes! My husband used to put a mustard plaster (pack) on his lower back and if helped him a lot! He had to get in a warm tub to remove the plaster(pack) from his skin( it was on an adhesive pad).
we moved the little laundry machine indoors got cold water hookup fixed as to drying clothes that I still hang outside
English plantain is it interchangeable with the broad leaf version..
All plantain is the same for herbal medicine. Some varieties have higher levels of psyllium in the seeds, but that is the only difference that I know of. 💚🌞
great video
Love eating tomatoes like this!!! So good!
So beautiful.
I'm a big fan of using a mustard plaster to clear a congested chest. My mom used them on me when I was a kid and I still do when I feel it's needed. NOTE: I'm not a naturopathic doctor or any kind of doctor but the mustard plaster works for me.
I like the videos where you highlight a recipe from a cookbook you recommend. I've collected a few of your recommended cookbooks already and I'm always interested in more!
