She also has a lot of really well done face lifts, fillers, possible quite natural cheek implants or filler there, skin smoothing, Botox, etc. She bad ALOT of help. I’ve seen photos of when she hasn’t had an updated tweak and then after. These people are aging “slower” because they have access to the best of the best in facial and neck rejuvenation.
If money is the source to J-Low looking youthful then why are other rich female celebrities look old at 52 compared to J-Low? Roseanne bar admitted to plastic surgery and she still looks fat and old just like most celebrities do.
A lot of Latinas just age well. My mother is 56 and still doesn’t have a single wrinkle. She’s hit menopause very early on and went completely untreated (no HRT). She is oddly against medication unless it’s a life or death matter. All she had ever done is wash her face in the morning, seldom did she use moisturizer, and shower at night. She never wore make up either because it was hard for her to find affordable foundation that matched her dark neutral skin tone. To this day, her skin is flawless. She doesn’t have noticeable wrinkles, even up close. When she smiles or laughs hard, you can see one very tiny line on the outer corner of each eye, but that’s it. It goes away right away. Her face doesn’t have any shadows at any angle (which I guess means she’s not losing a lot of volume). Now my dad is a pale white man and all the women in his family began aging in their 20s. Same goes for a lot of my friends, even the ones who don’t tan and religiously use sunblock. I don’t understand why people just don’t get that certain groups of people are less likely to age as fast. Maybe it’s from a lack of diversity because this is common knowledge for a lot of folks.
People like to assume it’s the skincare and dermatologists because they are lazy and want a quick fix. Many of thes ecelebs live a healthy lifestyle which plays a very important role on skin health as well.
It’s the sugar. Once I removed all the sugar from my diet, carbs and ultra processed foods, my skin greatly improved. You’re absolutely right no amount of retinol will combat a bad diet.
Same, I noticed a huge difference removing alcohol, breads, pasta, sugar, etc. To the previous comment, fruit contains fiber and has lots of nutrients for your skin like Vit C.
About sugar absolutely not true 🥴 sugar is needed for body to function properly. That is why the give you electrolytes and glucose to keep you ALIVE in the hospital when critical. Key word ALIVE thats how important sugar really is.
@@mefreee2 your body makes all the glucose you need. You don NOT need external sugar to survive. There is an entire carnivore community to prove it. Get educated honey.
Jlo definitely shows signs of aging even with the treatments and procedures she's had. Any unedited paparazzi pictures which you can find online show her age. She still looks amazing.
Also important not to be too swayed just by pictures. A lot of pictures posted of celebs are very flattering with the right lighting and make up, up close without that perfect angle you can see more skin texture and lines and normal things you see on any other average person and yourself.
Good point. I saw her (JLo) on a late night show awhile back and you could see lines on her face when she smiled and spoke. I think she looks great for her age, but without make up and lighting would look older than in the photos we see online.
Three major factors come into play for aging: 1) Genetics 2) Lifestyle (what you eat, sun exposure, smoking/drinking/drugs, active lifestyle or lack of, stress, etc) 3) Money
And onne other factor is very important IQ and education why? First an active mind helps you solve life prpblems and to COPE with streses in your life. You are less the victim lf FATE and realize more readily you DO have options. You are pess the victim of circumstances and you are a better prpbelm solver. Taking care of only your outside and your apperance as too many do is a mistake. Dozens of hours on makeup, wardrobe, shopping primping has no LASTING effect that makes you better at 40, 50, 60 but all the gerontological (aging) research shows those with the highest IQ and educational level live the longest and have the most life SATISFACTION....who wants to live another decade in grumpiness or PHYSICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL pain? I don’t drink alcohol either and quit smoking 7 years ago. I just turned 40 and am almost aging in reverse since I look older in photos with my daughter when she was a baby and she’s going to be 21.
I am an RN and used to be against HRT when I was in nursing school, thought natural was better, but after working in an OBGYN clinic for a few years I saw an incredible difference in women who used HRT and who did not. The very same age but with HRT more vibrant and looked young and without you would see what I thought of as "old". It isn't only skin but vaginally and with bladder issues as well there were many problems that are solved or prevented by HRT. My 102 year old grandmother was on HRT until she was 80 and the controversial study came out. She survived her husband of 75 years death and lives independently in a senior apartment complex. My mother took HRT until 60 when the study came out and I saw her age rapidly in the subsequent years, although she, at 82 is also mentally sharp and works part time from home. I am 58 and transitioned from oral contraceptives to HRT at 52 and definitely do not feel my "apparent age". Luckily I have no risk factors of breast cancer or any cancer in my family. I take bioidentical transdermal estrogen spray and micronised progesterone, derived from yams, both less risky than the old premarin and artificial progesterone the controversial studies used. There is no way people like Cher, Dolly Parton, Madonna, Tina Turner etc etc don't take HRT. Yes some of them have had cosmetic surgery but the vitality and energy would not be there, I would be incredibly surprised if they didn't.
@@JubeeBijou The HRT / breast cancer risk has been debunked. The study and the way it was presented was greatly flawed. There are many videos on YT that discuss the complete shame surrounding this study you are referencing.
She also has a strict exercise routine. Being physically active always improves the way we look on the outside. She may have good genes, but she also works hard to look that good.
Hollywood will not love you if you loose your looks. Yes, many things can help along the way, exercise, eating well, hydrate. A little wine a few days a week is actually good for you. Helps the blood and circulation. And if you live long enough you will get a wrinkle or two it's okay 😉
This topic just gets me down, honestly- everyone’s obsession with how well or poorly a person is aging, hearing about all the ways our bodies (especially when it’s women-specific) are trying to make us look worse, fear about all the upcoming changes I can’t stop… 😬 I have been learning a lot about skin care but honestly for my mental health I think I need to avoid the anti-aging subject for a while. I’m trying to take care of my skin, enjoy life, and let the chips fall where they may (easier said than done!)
I agree. It's all I hear people talk about these days. It's about health and happiness in the end. Putting so much emphasis on appearance puts so much pressure on people. Stressing about whether or not we look younger than the next women is exhausting and stressful. Different people age at different rates but that is life and it isn't everything. We shouldn't measure our worth or self esteem cause we show signs of aging or have imperfections. It's gonna happen to everyone. Even celebrities are not immune to the human process.
honestly Dr. Dray makes everyone feel better in their own skin and never let down. she rises up your self-esteem.. of course if you have one.. Celebrities are not the ones we should look up in to. Be yourself and do your thing. And if there are products and procedures which make you look better or overall look better your skin why not to try it. J.Lo looks amazing imo. Good to her.
I'm 45. Just lately sometimes I go to the grocery store without makeup with an attitude like, "Yep, I'm 45, not apologizing, people can just get over it." Feels good, once in a while.
I remember many years ago, when J LO just started using instagram, she posted a no makeup no filter selfie, she looked her age, and even older. And later the picture was deleted and during all these years all her pictures are young and flawless now...
I think she’s very disciplined about her external appearance and it’s a priority for her to focus on that 24/7. She’s in an industry that devalues women after 50. That’s why so many women in their 20’s start to disfigure themselves with so many fillers, Botox and surgical procedures. They dread looking older than 17. And so do women like Madonna.
I feel bad for Madonna, she is unrecognizable now. She's literally an icon, has done so many incredible things none of us could imagine, she's loved all over the world, but yet she's not immune to the internal hatred women are taught from a young age.
Yes the pop music industry does devalue the person after a certain age. But thats what should be good about jlo. She could show that being 50 she can still rock on stage and her music. And will have more older music artists or long term music artists stay in the music industry. Btw It makes sense why the music industry devalues you with age. Esp pop music. Pop music is more catered to the youth and as youth grow old, they may not listen to those music anymore and the next generations of youth dont want to listen to old people singing their music. The youth want to listen to celebrities in teens and 20s just like them. It makes sense.
@Lillian Robionson I'm in my 20's, and I use to dread looking older than 17. Thankfully I didn't get surgery done. Now I love myself and how I look at 27. I realised this obsession with looking under 20, comes from creepy older guys having a thing for teenagers. Those guys, pressure woman in their 20's and older to look like teens and not like grown women. Simply because then they can have a relationship with a woman who looks underage, but without getting thrown in jail. 🙈
My mum is in her 50s and has Mediterranean heritage and she is stunning. Does not have a single wrinkle apart from her smile lines from laughing so much. My mum is also a huge sunscreen user too
She’s had probably the best cosmetic procedures, which is the kind that is subtle, done over a long span of time of many years, and is meant to maintain your current face rather than change it.
I was watching Enough the other day. She was 31 when the movie was made. She had more lines under eyes than her current movies. So yes, she did get work done but subtle work as you said
But her healthy lifestyle has played a major role in her graceful aging process. Although Jennifer's chronological age is 52, her biological age is somewhere in young adulthood.
Thank you for pointing this out. If you compare photos from 15 years ago to now, her skin looked older 15 years ago. She had deep forehead wrinkles as well as in other places that have now totally disappeared. Love J-Lo for her art, but not a fan of her outright lying to millions of people to push a skincare line for money. It’s pretty horrible and disappointing.
Such a good discussion! I think you are so right about the exercise. The fact that J Lo and others have the ability (with training and chefs) to remain the same weight for so many women, I feel like the normal weight gains and losses contribute to aging. She’s been consistently the same weight. Worked out daily. Eaten clean good foods. Benefited from the best health educators. That access and fact alone would make her look gorgeous lifelong. Health is beautiful.
FINALLY somebody is talking about this. Thank you so much for pointing that out. Exercising, healthy diet and hormone replacement therapy are some of the reasons why some women I know don't seem to age. And they have way less resources than JLo and Madonna. Of course there is the nip and tuck but it's on the basis of improvement from what is already there, not the main reason why they look the way they do. Madonna has been very open about her vitamin IVs too. And when you are on the road like she was for so long you need that kind of support as well for your body to recover after a concert.
@@elsacouto209 nope she looks like most 52 years olds. Find real pictures of her out and about without makeup on. You can see the wrinkles on her face and especially on her neck. Yes she’s in better shape of course but most people I know have about same amount of wrinkles at her age.
I am 32yrs old and Puerto Rican as well, with oily/combo skin. I look like I'm 22yrs old. Some even say they thought I was 18. My secret is I love water, I stay inside a lot, no children, I get to sleep in, and no relationship stress. Stress really is a big aging factor, so is the sun, cigarettes, and drinking alcohol. I stopped drinking weekly in my 20's and stopped smoking too. I blv JLo doesn't have plastic surgery but she's had every skin treatment done, she used to use a face moisturizer that had crushed diamonds in it for her entire body, and of course she has a staff 24/7 who takes the stress of daily normal life away. If regular mom's had a child care giver for each child, they would look good too. So all you non famous pple, you're gorgeous too. 💙
I was still getting carded until I was nearly 40, but after a certain age your skin can catch up. Jlo's mom IMO looks like a woman of 65, so not drastically young looking. Again full makeup, so one doesn't really know. If you look at films she was in the 1990's, her face is quite different, so she has had work done. She said that she hasn't had Botox but there are many other procedures.
My mom is 50, had a incredibly stressful life, serious health issues, never really wore sunscreen etc. She doesn’t have any wrinkles or anything. She’s beautiful. I can’t imagine what she’d look like if she had worn sunscreen, had a less stressful life, and didn’t have the health issues she’s had 🤷🏻♀️ (she’s also black)
“ being physical active has a positive impact on your ageing” this is so true. My grandma is in her 80s , and she has been doing all sorts of exercises in her whole life ( yoga, walking , dancing , Pilates etc) and everyone who have met her thought she is in her 60s. And in my local gym, many instructors are in there 50s even 60s , and they look like they are in their 30s or 40s , I was shocked when I learnt one of my instructors’ age cz I have always thought she is in her 30-40s, she is 62 this year.
That’s funny; my grandma never exercised a day in her life, but was constantly doing word puzzles, crosswords, playing computer games, never drank, never smoked but ate a ton of chocolate every day - lived to 97 - she looked in her 70s.
@@chuckbuckets8825 sounds like a cool granny ❤️. My grandma is very conservative, I can’t wear ripped jeans in front of her 😂 she never drinks smoke , but loves sweets
I’ve been wearing SPF daily since I was in my teens, I’m in my early 40s now and it does make a difference. Yes, I was the only one doing that at the time and I got laughed at, but I’m glad I stuck to my routine. I’m also a gym rat and health nut, and people constantly think I’m in my 20s. Yes, J Lo’s photos are filtered, but I absolutely believe that she looks great regardless.
I am so glad you brought up HRT. I think the reason no one asks her is because people don’t know about HRT in any broad way. Additionally, the idea that a woman might need hormone replacement is not considered sexy. If it were “sexy” J Lo herself might bring it up. Likely it is better for her brand if the topic is not brought up.
It probably helps that her job is basically to look good and she's got the money to accomplish that. Even if she's NEVER has any plastic surgery, I'm sure shes working with the best personal trainers, the best dermatologists, the best makeup artists, the best facialists, the best products, the most premium foods, etc...But yeah, she's definitely had some work done...
I don't think she has had tons of work done. She just looks good due to genetics and she takes care of herself like crazy. There are a lot of Latino women who are her age that look just as good. Regardless of money she does work out like nuts and that isn't an excuse for us to not do our part. Make-up covers up but she looks good even without it botox or not.
Yes but not all celebrities look like this. This is why people talk about J Lo and how good she looks - because even with all the wealth and access to the best of the best she looks way better than other celebrities her age or younger
Love this (first time hearing HRT brought up in relation to aging). I can attest to genetics and spf. I just turned 40 am a Latina of similar complexion to Jlo. People consistently assume I am in my 20's. Some don't even believe me when I correct them (it can get a little weird TBH even with younger friends from about people my age, not realizing it me!). Trust me I cannot afford any of the procedures and help Jlo may or may not have used. I do hydrate, moisturize, use spf, and benefit from the genetics of my ancestors from the tropics
But IT does not make you a better person. I Read these kind of comments like you are a better person because of IT. In fact IT really doesn't matter. Kindness matters.
@@MsMakuda no trust me you dont know me. You dont know anything about my life . Im just saying we should be focused on much more things than skin care. Your really know zero about my life. Im extremely sensitive and Icare for honest genuine people who will never judge you on your looks . Just be kind. I just want to normalize things. Does it make you feel good to say things like that? I just dont want to have conflicts with people. I cant judge you either i dont know what kind of person you are. So i wont. It's true. My dad who passed away at 95, didn't look a day over 80. He had the oiliest of skin. I am so happy to have inherited this gene. I have an oil rig on my face.
Well, thats good news for me. Ive always had very oily skin now i am 40 and my skin is STILL oily as heck. Not sure who I got it from, neither of my parents had oily skin.
I'm a pale red head with blue eyes and I just want to say thank you. I rarely wore sunscreen before I started watching you last year. Now, I'm wearing it everyday and reapplying multiple times a day. I've already noticed a difference. I just hope I can minimize my chances of skin cancers later in life (big family history of that, unfortunately). Much love.
Hi, I can very much relate...I’m Scandinavian living in the skin cancer capital of the world, and unfortunately I did just have a skin cancer removed in my mid 40s. You don’t mention it, but may I suggest yearly skin cancer checks. Basal cell carcinomas are the most common kind of cancer, and they can be very difficult for the average person to recognise. Dr Dray has a video on BCCs. Everyone makes a big deal of melanoma, for good reason, but BCCs are actually much more common.
@@RachelJane101 I’ve been using tretinoin for a few months now. I got over the purging stage but then with my new tube of tretinoin the purging came back 😩. Obviously when your skin is purging it looks terrible. I’m trying my best to get through it. I won’t stop using it though because it is the top anti against product
@@elettramia6380 A recurrence of purging is unusual, unless you took a break between tubes. If you’ve been using it continuously, it’s possible that your breakout isn’t purging but is due to irritation. Watch for other signs like sensitivity, itching, redness or flaking. Be very gentle with your skin and don’t load up on actives like acids, vit C , etc that can exacerbate irritation.
Love that you brought up HRT. I've been on ERT since peri- and post-menopause and really noticed the benefits to my skin. Turning 52 in a week and seems people always guess a lower age. I honestly think the estrogen has been one of the biggest factors. Great video, as always! 🥳
@@CamilaSaurus my dr did counsel me about taking it but I’m healthy - never smoked, occasional alcohol, no other drug use, exercise regularly, I feel the benefits outweigh the risks It is low dose
Yes she has great genes just like others age rapidly no matter what they do. She's also a non smoker, drinker and stays physically fit which helps immensely when fighting aging. She has routine maintenance done that the everyday person just can't afford. Celebrities aren't honest, they want you to believe they aren't human. With all that she is still certainly aging, there were several photos of her circulating over the years and while she looked beautiful you could tell she was respectively in her 40s. She knows shes not what she was in her 20/30s. Angela Bassett who is 11 years older than JLO at 63 has admitted to self management, celebrities who aren't trying to sell a product will tell you the truth.
I agree with you , but I doesn’t hurt for us to try. I know stress is a huge factor and I would rather have a wealthier lifestyle where healthy food is more readily available compared to processed food. 💋
She deserves credit for her good habits at staying young. Sun screen is a pain in the @ss, eating right is a pain in the @ss, exercising is a pain in the @ss. Just google "worst aging celebrities" and what they all have in common with her is they could afford the same luxuries.
I like what you said here; the fact that HRT and HGH is never asked about is a very good point. The energy factor as being indicative or a sign that there may be more going on “behind the scenes “ than just surgery or procedures is a topic I’ve thought of delving deeper into; if not for anything else but to educate women (and men) on what else could be going into the maintenance of celebs’ illusion of everlasting youth. Great video 👏🏻
I am pale and with lots of freckles and I am 58 years old I will fight it constantly with all of your tips thank you so much. I have actually been trying for years to protect my skin more and more
I had oily skin (Mediterranean ethnicity) until my early 40’s. I wore sunscreen since age 17. Ate very well, low sugar and physically active for decades. At 53 most people think I’m in my mid 30’s. Have walked the talk that Dr Dray discusses here. It’s all true!
She does age in real life. Photos have editing and instagram has filters on. In person, you will see everyone's wrinkles and I love it. She has so many people helping her to look her best in public whatever it maybe and she works out. She has several schedules to follow. She is such a hardworking and patient person on set! Go J.Lo!
I'm a new fan..can see why you are so popular! No nonsense and science based info - user friendly presentation of technical details - practical and affordable - high emphasis on wellness: exercise, diet, healthy practices AND sound skin care. Thank you!
Great call on the HRT. That's a topic none of the several dermatologists I've known ever mention when addressing our skin care concern in our wiser years.
If you stay active sexually in your older years you need HRT...eg Premarin to keep vaginal tissue from thinning...ask your gynecologist after menopause as to whether you should use it and the dosage...it does enter the bloodstream so is contraindicated for some women at risk for breast or uterine cancer etc but is a Godsend for many...
Love this!! Especially the part about don't stop moving just because you're over 40 or 50 or whatever!! Use it or lose it can be taken literally here! I'm 48 and I walk two miles a day and do yoga almost every day and I have no intention of slowing that down as long as I am able. I want to still be able to sit cross legged on the floor when I'm 60 or 70 and get up without help, for instance. That's something you won't be able to do anymore if you stop exercising regularly.
I must say having “oily” skin has it’s perks. In High School I hated my skin because I was always breaking out and it was always shiny Lol but now as I’ve grown older and wiser ;) I do enjoy my oily skin. Both of my parents have oily skin and both are in their mid 70’s and look so good for their age. I get told I look younger than my age, so heyyy thanks mom and dad! :)
Totally! My mum is 50+ and has oily skin and she has zero wrinkles while I have super dry skin and a bunch of small wrinkles and I always tell her ‚you have the best skin type, you should be grateful! Everything that your skin has naturally, I have to give my face through tons of expensive skincare lol‘
I enjoyed this video, Dr. Dray! I find the content especially interesting because, like JLo, I am 52, and I look very young for my age. To point out, I have been a runner and have exercised since the age of 12. I apply daily sunscreen. I have oily skin. I use tretinoin 0.05% every night. I moisturize. I eat a well-balanced, whole-food, plant-based diet. Plus, I am on hormone replacement therapy. I believe these are all reasons why I have youthful skin. Therefore, your video is spot on!
finally, someone who I can respect talking about Jlo, she eats plenty of veggies, exercises a lot and maybe she might fasting. Dr David Sinclair talks about this combo and its amazing anti aging effects on skin. I started from 35 years old doing this combo and I didn't get new wrinkles at all and I am 40 now. My pic on my avatar I am 39. Not all people are looking like me, and I do this combo. Raw vegan 80%, 20% vegetarian, Fasting everyday and I dance as well. No need to have millions to do those things, they are simple and on a budget.
Also, I think a lot of women get around the truth by saying, "I haven't had Botox or fillers", when in reality, they HAVE had Dysport or Xeomin, etc. When they start saying they haven't had neurotoxins or fillers, I'll believe it.
I just turned 50 and have been using retin-a and of course sunscreen since I was about 32. Everyone says I look younger. I unfortunately did not wear sunscreen before that nor when I was a kid. I think I literally looked older when I was 32 to than I do now.
Wow! Aging in reverse then? What are biggest signs of reversal ? Has skin around eyes thickened & has your glow (cheekbones primarily) increased? Do you feel like the fascia & muscles have "firmed up"? Thanks for your insight. I'm same age, female, Caucasian & attempting to navigate retinol/oid for very first time ever.
Yo I'm 32 rn 🙌 but ppl always think I'm younger. I wanna stay looking like this forever & a long time. I feel like I look my best at this point in my life. I also have never drank alcohol nor have I ever smoked a cigarette 🚬 but I do drink coffee ☕ not a lot of it, but I'm thinking of switching to decaffeinated coffee instead lmao 😂 I wanna start a skincare routine also to keep this youthful appearance for far longer too. I'm also brown & Latino so tht may help! I exercise early in the a.m. morning time & go on walks or jogs too very early. So I hardly have sun exposure unless I'm going out to work. Drinking water constantly as well & I hardly drink sodas or sweetened beverages unless it's coffee 🤣
Enough is my favorite JLo movie as well! I appreciate the breakdown of how different types of skin age. I agree, sunscreen, genetics, diet plus no alcohol or smoking and sleeping make a huge difference on how our skin ages.
She has had some procedures done, which is fine. She also has used Dr. Perricone M.D.for years, words from her own mouth. Never before the release of her skincare line did she ever credit Olive oil for her skin . How stupid do they think the public is. Just be truthful, that's all we ask.
@@Loveskelly-hr .....hilariously enough, all these new "hair growing" products (ie: "Hers" ) are nothing more than overpriced Minoxidil...which has been on the market as "Rogaine" for decades.
Oh, J Lo has had plenty of work done. She owes no explanation on what she’s had done. BUT it’s her denial of not having anything done, that’s annoying. It’s not just deceptive - it leads people to feel badly about themselves cuz they’ll NEVER look as good as she does. They could exercise themselves to exhaustion & avoid the sun & have great genetics & they’ll NEVER look as good as she does cuz they don’t have buckets of dough to get the procedures she can afford!
True. It says a lot about her how she loves to make people believe she has nothing done & is simply just superior when every surgeon out there hints that she has a face & neck lift. Surgeons talk despite the NDAS lol.
Absolutely true. She has a lot of really well done face lifts, fillers, possible quite natural cheek implants or filler there, skin smoothing, Botox, etc. She has ALOT of help. I’ve seen photos of when she hasn’t had an updated tweak and then after. These people are aging “slower” because they have access to the best of the best in facial and neck rejuvenation make no mistake about it and they shouldn’t be denying it. It just makes us normals feel abnormal in our natural aging process when we do it with just skincare and healthy eating and lifestyle. It’s really not fair to the rest of us.
You guys act like she’s 80. I know plenty of women who are in their 50’s and just don’t look it. Obviously, there are many factors that contribute to aging as Dr. Dray discussed. Good habits from early on will make the difference. I, for one, am pushing 50 and I’ve been told, I don’t look my age at all. Sun protection, exercise, a healthy diet, no smoking, no alcohol, and managing stress has made the difference in my skin. Let’s stop jumping to cosmetic procedures so quickly. Best.
Jennifer Lopez lives quite a regimented lifestyle with exercise, strict diet, no alcohol, etc.... Thank you Dr. Gray for pointing out that it might take more than just paying for botox and fillers to look like her. That gives hope to some of us that can't afford those procedures. It also gives a wake up call to some who can afford those procedures, but don't realize it takes an additional effort on top on procedures.
Thank you for this. It was surprising to see so many “medical professionals” try and debunk what Jennifer said about having no Botox or fillers. You educated us on all the ways that it was possible for someone to not age as quickly and you did it by not trying to make her out to be a liar. Well done. Very classy. You earned a new subscriber.
I'm 82. I took estrogen pills for years and only stopped when I had fibroid surgery at 40, and a virulent form of cancer in one of the fibroids. My gyno used to say I could take those until I was 80. 😁 I'm in good shape physically, live alone, drive, clean, take care of two kitty cats, basically do everything I always did. I credit those pills to this day.
Totally agree. I am in my 50s, still take the contraceptive pill and my skin looks like I am in my early 30s. I plan to take the contraceptive pill (more powerful oestrogen than HRT) for the rest of my life.
There’s a big difference between how my sister and I have aged. I’m 2 years older at 64. She’s been married about 40 years, no children, financially comfortable, hasn’t worked most of their marriage, health is ok. But she’s extremely angry, which is just the beginning. I look quite a bit younger. I’ve always lived alone, never married. I live in poverty in an apartment. I don’t drive. There is nothing convenient about my life. I’m not angry or agitated. My life is mostly peaceful. I think stress messes up our face. Working on stress relieve is extremely important.
One of the most significant factors that I’ve never heard anyone ever address is osteopenia. Skin is only as good as the framework holding it up. Loss of bone volume/density will make your skin hang different, no matter how many times you cinch it in at the plastic surgeon. That is why you see people get shorter when they get a certain age and keep on shrinking. And their skin is losing it’s framework underneath so it starts hanging as a result. All these YT channels ever talk about in this subject is skin, skin, skin! But never this. Why does no one ever talk about this which is just as if not more important??
EXACTLY !!!!!!! I live in a 110 y/o house; it was built like a fortress! This is why it's still standing and has great character. But there are places that the foundation has settled therefore some floors are not level. Alot can be said for the body's framework and the feet that hold it up. Right?
saw some pics where she showed her age, not saying she's not doing well but she's had help , and just being active is a huge deal..she is in a job that she can do what she wants exercise wise and whatever she wants.
She doesn’t age because she has the money monthly to access the best of everything available. She has and does use what she needs. There are before and after photos on line. It’s not magic!
I’m on bio identical pellets, I easily look fifteen years younger than my years. However, I do also follow a fairly strict dietary regimen, wear my sunscreen religiously and also exercise. Staying away from stressful situations also helps my skin but also my own well-being as well. It’s an every day effort.
It's refreshing to see a video not hating on JLo because somehow it's cool to do so lately. It's definitely a combination of many factors: having a good skincare routine, GENETICS (her entire family is so young looking), access to the best dermatologists and products, being active. She can dance circle around women half her age, her body is so toned it's insane. People don't age fast when they are so active and healthy like that. She's definitely not lying when she says she doesn't have work done. It's very noticable whenever someone put in work, and throughout decades JLo has never showed any sign of having work done. Her neck and hand skins all show very little signs of aging as well.
Lol because she uses olive oil 🤡 she looks amazing but I don’t believe her whatsoever. Also she has nannies and cooks, and drivers etc , please never compare yourself to celebrity women 💖
Agree. Stress is a super aging factor. She can also control every minute thing about her home environment. Let’s not forget she sleeps on her back surrounded by pillows according to Kloe Kardashian. I’m embarrassed to just say that but this IS our topic.
I forgot to add- She also claimed on Dr. oz that she maintains a very positive mindset, this leads to less stress. And maybe she has a lot of sex too lol 😂
She looks her age, just good for her age. She looks mid to late 40's with a killer body. 52 is not old. I'm 49 with no wrinkles and very oily skin ( I don't frown or raise my eyebrows constantly- very easy to train yourself not to, and yes, I am very expressive in other ways :) ). I've taken care of my skin every skin day since my teens.. thanks, acne. I dont drink or smoke, but my body definitely does not look like hers. She takes care of her skin every single day and has worked out like a beast forever. She has had a nose job for certain, but what people dont know is that skin care treatments by derms have come a very long way. They can be fairly intensive with dramatic results, and she likely gets them often instead of more invasive procedures. She's also been getting treatments regularly since since she began her show biz career, so... forever.
I recently started HRT and the first difference I noticed was my skin! It made me realise how dry it had become. I am fair, but have been very strict with sunscreen from about 16, it has definitely made a difference.
There are all kinds of peels, lasers, collagen boosters, radiofrequency procedures, microneedling , threading, etc that can tighten skin. It does look like she's had some botox around her eyes. I've seen people whose faces don't age too much but the neck area is pretty inevitable, so it would be interesting to know how she has been able to keep her neck so tight without a cosmetic lift.
Watching you is like having one of my best friends talking, except that I don't have any best friend who is a dermatologist ♡ Thank you for being you to explain and give advice.
I definitely think the hormone replacement therapy is true. “Normal” people have started going to functional medicine doctors to stay feeling good for as long as possible. I would imagine celebrities have been getting since treatment for many years.
@@meoonly4989 HRT is estrogen and possibly progesterone or testosterone replacement when those hormones deplete during menopause. It's available in pills, patches, and pellets.
HRT is VERY dangerous. Reintroducing estrogen into a menopausal body is a huge cause of cancer in the female parts, uterus and breasts. Of course no DR will ever tell you or tell you why you got cancer this but it is true.
My skin is hella oily, but now hearing that it could be very beneficial against aging,I feel kinda good about it.Thank you,Dr.Dray.Could you review drugstore serums that could brighten up our skin and reduce break outs?
I’ve had smooth, “flawless” skin most of my life and at 68 have no wrinkles. Had smooth, perfect skin - no blemishes - as a teen. I’ve had several facial basal cell cancers because early sun damage from spending my childhood at the beach and surfing. I believe in my case it’s genetics. My father at 87 had baby smooth skin with nary a wrinkle but very slight, light sun spots (heavily in the sun all his life). I have pale skin, he had olive. I met his aunt when I was 17 and she 72. She was pale Scandinavian and had the most beautiful skin I’d ever seen. I’ve taken care of my skin since my late 20s with good moisturizers, etc ., but genetics is by far why I have good skin (so far).
and just to add J.Lo has olive skin (along with Eva Mendes). olive-skinned people tend to have thicker skin which will slow down the look of your skin's aging process as well as fast melanin production which helps prevents your skin's damage from the sun. that's why they tan so quickly and rarely burn
Melanin does not protect the skin as much as people think it does. Even if one olive-toned person doesn’t “burn” they are still receiving sun damage. The sun damages skin of all colors.
Thank you addressing HRT. Hearing this from YOU finally confirms my hunch. I know my own skin deteriorated rapidly with estrogen loss. 🙄. I’m doing my own experiment with HRT to see if it will cause improvement or simply help it not worsen. 💐. Note older TH-camrs who look very good have told us they are on HRT.
I’m 54 and haven’t done HRT (I think I’m 2 years into the pause) because I haven’t had any typical symptoms (like hot flashes, sleep issues) but I swear I woke up one day and suddenly had an old person’s neck and jowls - I remember thinking WTF.
I used HRT. I am 72. I am no JLO but I have not had anything done and have good skin (considering I baked in the sun until I turned about 50 or so.). I started using Retin A at 62 right after HRT. Trust me - this helps.
@@carola3046 Thank you for saying this, as it gives me hope that it’s not too late. I just started Adapalene and I am J Lo’s age. I baked in the sun and tanning beds in my 20s. 🤦🏻♀️ I have been on HRT for 5 years and have thought that I should stop but I’d rather not as it really helps my skin. Thanks again 🌸
maybe what happens is that once people make the money, they commission their very own "Dorian Grey" type portrait that ages for them in their secret attics somewhere.
The correct term for a complexion that is naturally light is “fair“, not “pale“. Pale means you don’t have a lot of pink in your cheeks. Fair simply means you’re light-complected. You can be fair, yet not necessarily pale. If you are fair, sun protection is very important.
I like the critical thinking and analysis that go behind your discussion Dr Dray! Especially the HRT piece - I’m 51 and menopausal so it is interesting for me to think about how estrogen loss affects the skin.
I'm same age and have done so much reading on HRT the past two weeks. Estrogen loss can effect so much than skin, bone, heart health, brain etc. It is not for everyone, especially anyone at risk for hormone receptive Breast cancer but for others it can be beneficial. Definitely worth looking into.
Comparing ourselves to celebrities is basically like a peasant woman comparing herself with Cleopatra back in the day. They work hard and get stressed too of course, but they have an environment that assures their general well being better than the average citizen do and as we all know they can afford top notch treatments (cosmetic, medical, exercise, etc) so we really shouldn't be comparing ourselves with them. Genetics is also a huge factor. My mom for example has really oily skin and recently she says she is getting dry but her skin has had a better starting line compared to my dry skin/eczema prone skin. What is more frustrating is that my mom is not acne prone but I am. I really gave up on becoming I am not. I just protect what I have.
"Comparing ourselves to celebrities is basically like a peasant woman comparing herself with Cleopatra back in the day." This is so true! Thanks for the reminder! We need to remember this.
Perfectly said!!🎯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Finally a professional with great advice & most importantly free of envy! The most professional & educated video out here.😍 These other influencers/people always talking down about another’s advantage need to learn & take notes from her. Alcohol is the number one most dumbest habit ever. It ages your skin, causes health problems, can cause addiction, and a large variety of other problems. Stop Alcohol
I feel that stress/anxiety is a huge part of aging. Not that JLo doesn't experience any, but I suspect since she has people to do the grunt work and thankless tasks for her, she has much less than us mere mortals :)
So important to bring some of this down to earth that helps us regular folk, it's so easy for us to make a comparison and for companies to sell products promising the world based on a very good sample. celebrities have vast resources (money and time) to spend on this to have a good foundation to put these products on. But also reminding us some of it (like exercise, good diet) is within our reach.
There are many other celebrities that have gone through plastic surgeries, had botox, fillers, etc and still don’t look as good as J Lo. Latin, Asian and Black skin ages better according to science. Having discipline is everything whether you are a celebrity or not.
Man, this is my favorite video. I have been isolating because I travel for work to Korea and I have watched MANY videos over the last 7 days. I used to be a huge J. Lo fan. I'm still a fan, just not so spastic 😉. I think J. Lo puts in the work. That's her secret. Just like G. Stephani. I know people have bad things happen; I am one of them; not everyone is J. Lo. Still, she does not sit around. I love that about her. Great video!!! I just ordered my Murad sunscreen to try it.
She’s aging like the rest of us…but having a healthy lifestyle, money, HRT for suuure, access to treatments we mortals don’t even know exist and replacing a man every few years will keep anybody motivated to stay young. Just sayin 🤷🏻♀️
I use HRT and I find it gave me a more even temperament, got rid of the severe sweating, wet sheets and I also use the cream as well. I feel so much better since I’ve been on both and of course I got more freckles and had hyperpigmentation and so my dermatologist prescribed tri-luma and it’s really cleared up my skin and I have no fine wrinkles. I don’t use this everyday in fact in the beginning 13 weeks on and then off and skipping days. It’s so expensive but it’s worth it. I am also a Cerave addict, due to my diabetes #2 I have used Amlactin a lot on my feet and it keeps them smooth but I will try Cerave for the feet. Yes I feel more energetic on HRT but I sleep much better and feel good.
Yay for oily skin! Im 58 with very few wrinkles. I am dark skinned and loved the sun but I truly beleive that my oily skin helped my skin stay younger looking.
I got bit of wrinkles and I just turned 28. It was freaking me out and I have quite dry skin and ADHD so I think being active and little bit of skin and health care is just I should do and my future will be bright 🌞
She looks really good for her age. But, I am more than sure it isnt just olive oil and skincare at work. Anyway, happy monday dr dray and everyone, JLO included.😉🤭🌻☘🌿💕💕
Yes Dr; Gray, HRT is huge preserving the skin and many rich people have it only to protect their skin, thanks for talking about it. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I have seen it in many TH-camrs and celebrities, they actually disclose it and people don't add 2 +2. Also there are stem cells and normal therapies such as HF, lights, lasers etc.
I’m 74 and my fair skin looked beautiful up to 65. I attribute it to genetics, taking care of my skin with professional facials, home facials. I played golf in the dry desert, went to outdoor water aerobics. I enjoyed my activities outdoors so much. I don’t regret enjoying my life. I used sunscreen of course. After 65 my skin start aging. That’s is fine and I continue to take care of my skin although I accept my age. J Lo has access to the best of the best and she takes care of herself. I truly believe genetics, working out, eating healthy , moderate drinking hydrating plays a big part in looking young. So what if J Lo has had some help. She looks wonderful and so does her Mom. And…she sure can move!
Thank you for bringing up HRT!!!!!! I've been researching it because I want to be on it before I turn 50, and every person I know who has an elderly mother who has been on it for decades says their mom has beautiful skin and tons of energy, every one of them. We are not meant to be without estrogen! Historically we never lived long enough past menopause to see the damaging of affects of losing estrogen, but now we do . It may not be for everyone but I will definitely be experimenting with it!
Thank you for this insightful video. Not all women or men who look pretty decent for their age or better than expected have used fillers or botox or had surgical procedures done. I agree if someone has they should not lie about it. I'm 52 and I only use vaseline and have for years since I was a teenager. We are all different with different skin types and body chemistry.
I think being extremely wealthy, having access to the best dermatologists and products makes things easier.
Exactly!
This. IF and removing sugars will literally make you look younger and skin will clear and the body will debloat.
What about fruit sugar? That too?
Exactly she’s a 50+ old and it shows with good skin care that’s all
“Like she’s watching” 🤣 that made me chuckle. Happy Monday!

That "Skeptical, aha aha" 😂
She probably is, that's why she's maintaining her skin and looks so youthful or unchanged from back in the day

Please don’t forget about Botox and everything else.
Excellent point. But, remember We are all Beauties!!
True! Bright light fades your wrinkles, it kind of blurs them from the camera. I noticed this on a utuber that stepped out of her direct lighting
Good lighting can take 20 years off your face, seriously.
Three major factors come into play for aging:
1) Genetics
2) Lifestyle (what you eat, sun exposure, smoking/drinking/drugs, active lifestyle or lack of, stress, etc)
3) Money
Thank you so much for sharing what had worked for you!!! I really needed this knowledge!
HRT hormone therapy?
Where do you get the bio identical hormones?
what is HRT explain to me so I can understand
@@JubeeBijou The HRT / breast cancer risk has been debunked. The study and the way it was presented was greatly flawed. There are many videos on YT that discuss the complete shame surrounding this study you are referencing.
She also has a strict exercise routine. Being physically active always improves the way we look on the outside. She may have good genes, but she also works hard to look that good.
💯❤❤
Look at her Mom. She looks great too.
Everybody forgets that’s her full-time job is to look good because she’s not only a performer she’s an actress.
Hollywood will not love you if you loose your looks. Yes, many things can help along the way, exercise, eating well, hydrate. A little wine a few days a week is actually good for you. Helps the blood and circulation. And if you live long enough you will get a wrinkle or two it's okay 😉
Yes, she also doesn't consume coffee. I joke in other words..she doesn't live!
Well said...you speak for a lot of us! x
@@dzingunyte I’m right there with you on that. I don’t get why “regular” people look up to people who live extremely different lives than them. 🤷🏻♀️
If you see her in person, with or without makeup, she looks her age. It's not a bad thing.

😂😂😂I totally feel you!
Madonna’s is no longer recognizable after her plastic surgery.
I feel bad for Madonna, she is unrecognizable now. She's literally an icon, has done so many incredible things none of us could imagine, she's loved all over the world, but yet she's not immune to the internal hatred women are taught from a young age.
@@i.cant.sleep.anymore she's a queen of pop. I kinda expect Madonna to look a bit "done" if you know what I mean, I expect her to look alien like
Yes the pop music industry does devalue the person after a certain age. But thats what should be good about jlo. She could show that being 50 she can still rock on stage and her music. And will have more older music artists or long term music artists stay in the music industry.
Btw
It makes sense why the music industry devalues you with age.
My mum is also a huge sunscreen user too
i think joy helps you age gracefully, no?
She’s had probably the best cosmetic procedures, which is the kind that is subtle, done over a long span of time of many years, and is meant to maintain your current face rather than change it.
I was watching Enough the other day. She was 31 when the movie was made. She had more lines under eyes than her current movies. So yes, she did get work done but subtle work as you said
I think Paris Hilton did the same thing because she looks the same as she did in her 20s but it's hard to pinpoint what she's done.
But her healthy lifestyle has played a major role in her graceful aging process. Although Jennifer's chronological age is 52, her biological age is somewhere in young adulthood.
@@puapucuve6643 She had really bad acne in her 20s and now her skin is perfect. She's definitely had treatments done.
When you get to 52 you realise that 52 is not that old.
Nobody is saying she's old. People just saying that at 52 is unlike she's look 30.

I only started wearing make up in my 30's, but look younger than a lot of 20 year olds.
I wish I knew that daily sunscreen prevents wrinkles, before I got wrinkles :-/ Good that you stuck with it!
Yeszzzzz....
Evidently everyone here missed the videos of J. Lol unfiltered without photo editing.

Leave it to Dr. Dray…The woman is so smart, always giving us the best information and in my opinion, the best advice
Oh lord 🙄 of course
People of color don’t age as wites, that’s why wites are so jealous

With all that she is still certainly aging, there were several photos of her circulating over the years and while she looked beautiful you could tell she was respectively in her 40s. She knows shes not what she was in her 20/30s.

Right
You guys act like she’s 80.

I take estrogen, and for sure it does prevent the aging!

Enough is also my fave JLO movie!! :) And your advice is always so great. JLo has great genes and movies a lot!!
Enough and Selena are my favorite movies from Jlo. Regardless if she had anything done or not, she is STUNNING!
and just to add J.Lo has olive skin (along with Eva Mendes). olive-skinned people tend to have thicker skin which will slow down the look of your skin's aging process as well as fast melanin production which helps prevents your skin's damage from the sun. that's why they tan so quickly and rarely burn
Melanin does not protect the skin as much as people think it does. Even if one olive-toned person doesn’t “burn” they are still receiving sun damage. The sun damages skin of all colors.

The correct term for a complexion that is naturally light is “fair“, not “pale“. Pale means you don’t have a lot of pink in your cheeks. Fair simply means you’re light-complected. You can be fair, yet not necessarily pale. If you are fair, sun protection is very important.
@Zee Aye LOL
Well Natasha, Brittney's case is rather extreme even among celebrities and my comment was a generalization.
Natasha good point
"Comparing ourselves to celebrities is basically like a peasant woman comparing herself with Cleopatra back in the day." This is so true! Thanks for the reminder! We need to remember this.
Yeah, Britney Spears had a lot going on in her life that obviously brought a toll on her aging. She’s still beautiful though.
@@crysvader You could argue that the fact that Briteny's beauty shining through all the aging and stress shows the power of her genetics (shurgs)
It is incredible to hear so much knowledge from this young lady! Thank you Dr Dray!
Enough and Selena are my favorite JLO movies! Great video, I always learn soooo much!
I believe genes play a big role on aging...my mother is 84 and looks 60...I'm 49 and hope to look as good as she does at her age
Perfectly said!!🎯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Finally a professional with great advice & most importantly free of envy!
The most professional & educated video out here.😍
These other influencers/people always talking down about another’s advantage need to learn & take notes from her.
Being envious of a diamond will not make you shine more.😉
Love this video, she has said she doesn’t drink any alcohol or coffee. She said she sticks water and teas…. Clearly very discipline.
Jlo had botox , surgery fillers and she use her skin creams.
Wow, loved this topic. Thank you Dr. Dray for this great insights.
Thanks for watching
Replacing a man every few years 🤣 so true!
lol true!
😂😂
Lol … very true nothing like a man up grade for beauty motivation
Thats why men dont age as bad as women. They replace us with someone half our age🤪
Great video! I’m glad you included HRT and how it can prevent the rapid collagen loss that coincides with declining estrogen at menopause.
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
"Enough" is easily my favorite J.Lo movie. So underrated.
Yeah Cassandra Bankson pretty much debunked the olive oil myth.
Like she’s reading 😂😉
Shes been lying for awhile. She dont even sing her own songs. Ashanti did
Beauty glows within..may she live a long life..
Her image is managed very well also. That’s one reason why she seems not to age.
God, how much knowledge one person can possess. Andrea is incredible.
Maid in Manhattan is definitely my favourite! Amazing video by the way 💖
Your Professional and Respectful opinion is really appreciated!
Thanks Dr. Dray 💕
