I mean, some tough competition with the Fairytale Tarot by Lisa Hunt (watch until the end of this video to see me compare the two!). Either way, The Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani is a real treasure, beautifully illustrated and looks easy to read if you're familiar with the RWS system. I am so pleased to bring you this walkthrough!

    I have this deck and I love it. I’m a storyteller by nature so this deck and I clicked right away. I’m mixed race and it was very cool to be able to find a story in this deck that corresponded with each part of my heritage. Some other
    Tarot-tubers I have seen review this deck admit that they find some of the stories distracting because they’re so dark. But I see it as a wonderful opportunity to address the shadow side of each of the cards. It’s all about perspective and I’m curious to hear what you think. 😊

    • @Lisa_Papez
      @Lisa_Papez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I didn't find the stories dark at all actually... but I grew up with Grimm's Fairy Tales and I am used to traditional stories being a little more intense than their fluffified versions! I feel like the cards and stories are very well balanced with lots of layers to dig into.

    I love that you reviewed the deck from the perspective of if you don’t read the stories. At the same time the key factor that makes me add more decks to my collection is the variance and the ability to deep deck dive through different subject areas. I’m a huge lover of stories, fairy tales and folk lore. I have both the deck and the book. Love love love it.

    • @Lisa_Papez
      @Lisa_Papez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Me too!!! I love the ability to deep dive but I wanted to bring something a little different to this walkthrough because there are so many people who don't want to 'have' to study a deck to 'get it'. I had that issue with another Fairytale deck and it prevented us from bonding as well as we could have.

    The critters in the Moon card are Japanese raccoon dogs, which you may also hear called tanuki. They're canids, but they kinda look like raccoons, thus the name.

    My go-to fairy tale deck for sure is the Mary Hanson-Roberts illustrated and Dorothy Morrison written
    “Whimsical Tarot”
    Tower~ Big Bad wolf, 3 little pigs house burning down.. The Chariot~ Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage pulled by mice… The Fool~ the Wizard of Oz Scarecrow wandering off a cliff… King &Queen of Pentacles~ Robin Hood & Maid Marian.. I’ve never seen a more perfectly conceived deck for the message of fairy tales. Some cards are nursery rhymes too. Highly recommended of you like the stories to pertain to the traditional meanings

    I lovelovelove this deck and the Beneath The Moon book. From what I've heard, Yoshi said that she wanted to give readers enough of the stories to know what they were about in the hope that those who wanted to know more would delve into the mythologies for themselves, given that many myths/legends often have more than one version.

    What a thoughtful gift! I have the book and agree that the the versions of these stories serve as more of a jumping-off point for our own deeper dive, should we choose. I really appreciate the time and research that Yoshi Yoshitani put into the deck. And I love how this video focuses on whether the deck can be used without having knowledge of the stories. Yes!! I'm really enjoying just straight-up reading with it. It seems to have a beautiful balance of enough in the image to remind you of the story if you're familiar (or whet the appetite) and enough nods to RWS imagery to just be *readable*. I pulled it out for some live readings I did on my other channel and it was a joy to read with!

    I'm a novice tarot reader (I've only started trying to do my own readings in the last year or so), but I've found this deck very easy to work with so far. The way that it hews close to Rider-Waite while still offering a slightly different perspective works really well for me and my skill level. Also, I love that you can choose to go more in-depth by reading the stories and incorporating them into the reading, but you can also choose to just go off the images and traditional card interpretations. Or, in my case, start with the latter and work your way up to the former.

    I just got this deck yesterday and I absolutely love it. I wish every Tarot deck used this cardstock. I think it's my all time favorite. My other fairy tale Tarot is the Baba Studios Fairytale Tarot, which I still love. But I think this one, with its inclusivity and diversity, will be my go to. I had the Lisa Hunt deck but traded it. I didn't feel like many of the story choices always fit the Tarot cards the way I see them. Tarot of the Divine fits better with my personal keywords and such. Amazing deck. I love this deck and I think it would be great for beginners. The stories add a nice touchstone for each card. However I was familiar with many of these stories and recognized them easily in the cards on my first flip through, so maybe that has influenced my opinion. Maybe the only card that I don't agree with is the four of swords. Like you I consider it to be a calmer sort of rest than the fenrir story.

    Also, I couldn't find a video contributor using this tarot card on a Japanese fortune-telling TH-camr, so I'm sorry for my poor English, but I asked a question.

    I'm really glad this deck is currently unavailable in Amazon Mexico because otherwise I'll be out of a few dollars before researching it more.
    After going through every preview of the accompanying texts (the LWB and the full book) available on Amazon I realized the connections between the stories and the cards are in most cases extremely shallow or weren't thought out properly; see for example Strength were the lass is holding Ammit, an Egyptian female deity, who is actually supposed to be the prince of the Scottish ballad the card is based on just because Yoshi (Yoshi doesn't use pronouns BTW) choose to.
    The summary of Beauty and the Beast given in Beneath the Moon is to vague to be referred to as Chinese (it could literally any other of the European versions or even the one from Disney) and Moses as the eight of cups is just the Dreamworks version.
    Isis has some issues with her representation (that is not her headdress!)
    A princess killing all of her suitors if they can't answer three riddles but finally marrying one just because you had to wrap up you Opera is a bit odd as the Queen of swords, and The Little Mermaid as The Fool is far too discouraging (you'll have to give up what makes you You, every step will literally feel like walking on knifes, you'll have no voice, someone else will take your place, those that love you will try to help you and yet it will all be in vain at the end and your destiny will still be in the hands of others! Just because of a whim!).
    I still might get it if the price is right just for the aesthetic

      Thank you for the heads up about Yoshi preferring not to use pronouns! I'll do my best to remember that in the future! SInce both story AND art are subjective in their interpretation, it totally makes sense that this deck will illicit a wide variety of responses/reactions! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    Why is the high priestess always holding a book?i mean she does not even read the book..she only holds it..the moon her greatest company that is what it seems..

      she does not need to read the book, she already knows its contents. The high priestess is about knowing unknowable, mysterious things, she uses her intuition to guide her in all things.
      The book is a symbol of knowledge and the fact that she does not look like she 's reading it shows us that she already knows.

    I was resisting this deck until I learned it had a companion art/story book. Then I HAD to get it. I agree, both the deck and book are stunning! I think my favorite images are Judgement and the Nine and Ten of Wands. I'm a sucker for skulls and Judgement gives me strong Avatar: the Last Airbender vibes just because of the staff and staring up into the sky lol

      I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on the 10 of Wands! What do you 'see' in that image?

      @@Lisa_Papez Sure! My first thought when I saw the card was about cycles and endings creating new beginnings. The Numinous Tarot by Cedar McCloud was one of my early tarot decks and what they said on the Ten of Wands about needing to return to community when the burdens become too much has stuck with me. Then the recent Cosma Visions Oracle deck which made the minors' panoramics be a continuous loop where the Ten goes right back into the Ace just highlighted that aspect of the Ten again for me. I write fiction stories too and so the end of the Wands suit always reminds me of how much work goes into even fun and creative endeavors. But the payoff (like the tree in this card) can be worth it! Now trees and bones are both symbols I'm really drawn too (for example, I adore the Antique Anatomy Tarot deck), and I see trees as always positive and bones as neutral that will be influenced by the context of the reading and surrounding symbols. So that definitely influences my reaction to this Ten of Wands.
