Its an old idea i made one in the 80s after realising milling was too slow and used too much fuel useing full bar width ‘ after first initial level cut with mill then use the guide clamp like in vid its 4 times faster than milling

How do you cut the first cut with this device...?... to get plain surface...

You use a board to get the first flat side.

Interesting tool. I don't think I get how it works though.
So you use a flat board with a groove already in it, or 2 parallel boards for the first cut.
When you have a flat side how do you cut the groove to guide the tool?

I have not tried this but...Looks to me from the video like you only need to make a short straight line to get started, done with the tip of the chainsaw blade by eye or following a pencilled marked line. One you have a slot to register in then you can slot the fin on the jig in behind the blade and move forward. I would guess it works provided you use the tip not the whole chainsaw blade, different technique from what you would use with the usual mills. Very clever idea in my view.
