  • Join me for another overnight trip testing some new gear out to get ready for my 100 mile section hike of the Superior Hiking Trail this summer! In this video I take the Durston Kakwa 55l pack on its first overnight test. I also switched out my shoes. I’ve been using Altras for the last few years, but here recently I’ve developed some heel and knee pain on longer 10+ mile hikes. The shop I go to suggested I try out the Brooks Cascadia 16’s. Did a little over 10 miles on this trip and had zero issues with my feet. We’ll see how they do on longer hikes, but so far so good. Last new item was the Outdoor Vitals Nebo Windbreaker. All I can say is for 4oz, this may be the most useful piece of equipment I now own. So much more comfortable to hike in than a rain jacket to take the chill out. Great piece of gear! If you enjoy the video, give it a like, comment with questions or advice, and please subscribe to follow along… almost to 1000 subs! Here are the links below for the new items in the video. I get nothing in return if you buy them, just giving you the links to check out if you wish! Thanks for watching!

The Black Diamond Alpine Start hoody IS THE BEST, HANDS DOWN. The technology it uses far surpasses any other light windbreaker/shell on the market.

I have the Cascadia version 16 GTX Gore -tex ($160)and they are superb winter trail runners. The traction is like knobby tires on a truck. Ice snow rain streams puddles, Nothing can stop you! I also hike mountains in them. I would not run road races in them. I would not run cross country races either , They are bulky built like tank all terrain shoes. Built for protection and traction …NOT Built for Speed! I own 2 pairs and use them alot for my off road adventures. One of my favs

I always enjoy your videos! I just went to order the jacket. Is that the dark forest color that you are wearing. They show two colors Black and Dark Forest on the web sight. Thanks!

Not an idiot, it happens. It's tough to keep all that stuff charged every single backcountry trip. That flextail pump DOES take forever to charge.

Thanks for the review of your gear and taking the time to actually hike and get to know and understand your gear, during hikes. Looking at the Outdoor Vitals Nebo jacket. And now hearing your thoughts on the Durston Kakwa 55 has me thinking. Currently using the HMG Junction and must say a big fan. But hey could always use another pack 😉 take care and have a great weekend.

Hey thanks!! I’ve owned the junction as well. To me, the Kakwa is more comfortable, but if the HMG pack is comfy to you, there is no reason to change… other than just adding to a collection… which I totally understand 😂

Let me know what you think of the nebo. I love it! I bought my girlfriend one for her runs as well and she loved it. Outdoor Vitals hit this one out of the park!

I hate that valley when it’s cold. I have an off trail campsite up the trail less than a 1/2 mile from there. I’m 48 and had to get out of altras about 5 years back. Now use hokas or topo.

No I didn’t. My normal shoe size worked for me.
